So sad.... do people not realize that animals have feelings too? It was found that elephants actually shed tears and mourne their dead... just like humans. There are so many bad people in this world that do terrible things but there are so many that do good too; it's up to us to just stay postive and make a difference in the lives of all creatures big and small

HeidiBears

Hmm those two do look very similar! To answer your question yes Becky its really only just a blob with two front legs ( bear_smile I wonder what the person who made it was thinking lol!) When I look closely at it i can definetly see hand stiches especially on the paws... I'm not exactly sure what it is made of. I think synthetic is definetly out of the question, to me it feels almost like real fur  bear_wacko  . I'm going to see if I can give my Grandma a call this weekend perhaps she has some answers, and maybe I can find that dog too  bear_laugh . Thank you guys for your imput!

dads-bunny.JPGHey everyone!  bear_original  , my parents were going through their closet today and my dad came across this old bunny stuffed animal. He says he used to play with it when he was little and has a dog one just like it. He believes its from steiff but we honestly have no idea!  I'd be interested in knowing the history about it, does anyone know? Thanks!!!  bear_smile

HeidiBears

Hi Joanne! I could use supplies of any size, I love all bears big or small. All of the bears I've made so far have been small but I would not mind experimenting with larger ones just to find my style  bear_original  . Thank you all so much!!   bear_wub  - Heidi

HeidiBears

Hi everyone!!!  bear_original  , I'm very new to bear making and I am on a tight budget. I do not have many supplies ( a few strips of fabric from Johanns, i do have lots of thread and needles! Paint and clay.) Is there anyone out there who would be very generous to help a newbie in need with extra eyes, joints, and some scrap material?  bear_wub  bear_wub  bear_wub  Anything to help get me started would be very greatly appreciated!!! Thanks  bear_original  - Heidi

HeidiBears

Thank you both very much!!!  bear_wub  bear_wub  bear_wub  bear_wub

Okay so i am very very short on supplies and im trying to be creative here! I like the idea of recycling things and i've heard of people making amazing bears out of grandmas old coat lol so has anyone tried reusing the material of a stuffed animal?! Since im a beginner it seemed like a cheap way to start?

HeidiBears

Thanks Joanne! I absolutely love your bears, they are so realistic they look as if they are alive!  bear_grin Where do you purchase your mohair ??

photo-small-2.JPGHere are my second and third teddies!!! i feel like i've come a long way since the first but there is still plenty of room for improvement! any suggestions are welcomed  bear_original . Also when i was working with this bear i didn't like how the fur kept getting kind of fuzzy ( hard to describe hopefully you know what i mean!) i think because the original material is so long and i had to cut it short since this bear is only 7 cm's tall. Are there any shorter synthetic furs out there which are still sort of long for a more realistic look out there that anyone knows of? I ordered the brown fur on my second teddy pictured here from sassys but i feel like its much to short and it doesn't look very realisitc at all.

HeidiBears

thank you all for the wonderful suggestions! i couldnt wait to get started on my next bear   bear_happy . I think i want to try and make a more realistic looking one next time, the synthetic fur i ordered seemed to short to me... does anyone know a good type of fake fur thats good for making a realistic looking bear?

HeidiBears

so i was very inspiried when I saw my first teddy on here so I decided to give it a shot and try my own! I had no idea what I was doing and started with some synthetic fur, cotton, and made little clay eyes and painted them. I sewed him all together and glued on the little eyes.. I think he looks pretty strange! I'm not sure what many of the terms i've heard mentioned mean so i was just wondering if someone could define some of these and give me some helpful hints to make my next bear better ?  bear_grin   also i'm not very clear on how the face is shaped.. i just cut out a "bear" looking head shape and sewed them together then trimmed the fur to try and make it look like a muzzle.. how exactly does one "sculpt" the features? thanks so much!!  bear_rolleyes
