Teddy Talk: Creating, Collecting, Connecting

Laura, thank you so much for this wonderful free pattern. I had seen it before already but never found the time to make a bear from it.
Now that the mother of my brother's girlfriend gave me some real fur for free, I want to make her a bear as a special thank you - and as she likes patchwork, I remembered your lovely pattern that I'll probably use with more colours to make it as 'crazy' as possible!

Viking-Teddy is by far the most complicated and advanced bear I have made until now and I am so proud of how he turned out - and it is so funy how clothes can change the appearance of a bear lol

Hey there,

as you may know, I mainly create miniatures. I already did eyelids on my avatar-bear with good results but this one isn't a mini so I don't know what to do...
Does anybody know how I could create eyelids for a miniature? I mainly use glass eyes with loop (mainly 6mm, but I just ordered some 4mm, too) and also black beads for tinier ones.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated

Congratulations for the nomination, one can truly see how much work was put into this one.
The whole face was painted on, if I'm not mistaken? It looks so realistic in matters of texture and colourbleding

Hey there,

wanted to share this tip with you if you haven't heard of it already.

I have the luck that the mother of my brother's girlfriend is running her own alteration shop (who btw knows that I am making bears as I have given one as a Christmas gift to my brother's girlfriend).

Last week, I went there to get my prom dress made and she took me aside, opening a big drawer - which was full of longer and shorts bits of real fur ! She told me that the customers didn't want the left over fur from the cloaks they had let shorten from her and let them at the alteration shop where they were not at all of use as they were too little to be used for anything. Thus she packed me two bags full of real fur collars and other bits big enough to make some bears out of, one of them is rabbit, the other one maybe fox - and the others I don't know, but they are very great, so good looking and very soft to touch! Also some bits of leather for the paw pads with a lovely texture. And even the tail of an animal is in those bags that I may be ably to use for something.She also wants to supply me with some leather needles because I don't have them...

This was such a lucky day for me as I had indeed the intention to buy some real fur to try if I could create a bear out of such a challenging material, too, but didn't know wherew to get some without having to pay a fortune - and now I got them for free! :dance:

So, my tip would be, if you have an alteration shop nearby you, go there and kindly ask if they have some leftover fur pieces from previous projects they don't need anymore - you might make some great deals!

I like the idea to make a charm to put it onto a bag; I once made a miniature teddy head I can wear as pendant to show others that I can make bears... Maybe it'll get me a commission one day lol

How tall are your bear and the ornament, if I may ask?

Hm.. have you reduced the seam allowance? You could also try to cut v-shapes in the seam allowance on the curved parts if this makes sense.
Also, it could be helpful if you could post a picture of the problem-head^^
