I want to add: Always double check (on bought patterns) if the length of the gusset corresponds with the length of the side parts. I nearly ruined a head because the gusset was too short; glad I hat cut it longer and could repair it because I wouldn't have enough fabric to make another one.

Wow, I cannot stop looking at his face, I'm totally stunned by all the detail!

Edie, I refer to the TV-Series Monk (in case you don't know: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monk_(TV_series) ) and the theme song (well, in the German version; I don't know how it is in the original) is called "It's a jungle out there".  It popped to my mind when I read the title of your vignette
You can listen to it here, if you want to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBwmGVjfbH8

Hello^^

I have just done some shading once on a bear, but think it turned out rather cute. I used pastel chalk (is it called like that in English?!  bear_ermm ). First, I rubbed it over paper to get the dust. Then I took a very fine tipped brush (as I work on miniatures), took some of the dust with it and gently brushed it into the fur where I wanted it to be. You could also use a Q-tip if working on a "round" area like under the eyes.

Just my 2 cents, I don't know if others do it this way too

Very sweet, I thought it was a little bear from the pictures, such a cuteness *_*

I'm not sure at the moment, if I want a belly button that simply goes in or one that goes outward like you do them.

Think I'll first needle sculpt one that goes inward and see how it looks^^

Ladies, thank you for all the suggestions on how to do a belly button. I'm sewing up a new bear at the moment that has an inset tummy so I'll be able to make a belly button without a front seem - wish me luck

Just the measurements I prefer for my bears  bear_laugh
I wish I had the money to buy him, but sadly I don't

@ Andrea:
Well, it seem like I should try it out on my newest one, he (or is it a she? I don't know atm) would like to be so poseable lol

Fallenrose

Thank you, I knew I had seen something like this before - I just didn't remember that it was from you (I admired your bears after having seen a pattern of yours in the Teddy Bär Report lol)
The visual impression gave me an idea on how to do the belly button on my little bear, thanks again

Edie, I wonder, are the three attached to the base or can they be took of?

By the way: Is the title a reference to the monk theme-song?  bear_grin

Sounds like a trial and error process lol But I'll see if it works out well for me.

At the moment, I'm trying to figure out how to do a three part body so that there is no center seam in the front, because I wouldn't like this look with a belly button. I could also try to incorporate a  "belly-piece" like you often do on bunnies (does that make sense? I don't know how to describe it; a piece that doesn't go all the way of the side pieces but only in the middle, you know?)

Very sweet *_*
How tall is he?

sounds like a great fun.
I wish that more bear makers lived in my area to meet with them  bear_sad

Another question that popped into my mind: What kind of stuffing should I use for the area I want the belly button to make in? Are there differences between.. lets say..soft and fluffy stuffing or really hard stuffing? Or doesn't it matter at all (especially on a miniature bear)

Hugs, Ariane

Fallenrose

Wow, really sweet - love the detail you put in the face and also into the clothing!

Fallenrose

I like the idea of using buttons, but.. As I mainly make miniatures, I don't think I'd be able to find buttons that would fit the measurements of my bears.
and also, I think it is much nicer to needle-sculpt them so that they look more realistic^^

Fallenrose

Hey there bear_laugh

I'm just curious - does anybody of you do bellybuttons on your bear's bellies?
In my opinion, it could look really cute on a lil' cutey and would like to try it, but am not sure if it is not too different?
If anybody does so too, do you use a "normal" body pattern (e.g. with a center seam and the belly button on it), or do you use something different?

Hugs and thanks for you answers,
Ariane

Lovely jungle  bear_laugh
I really love the lion, he looks so cute and hugable

I think it is very inappropriate from your customer to tell you after a month that they don't like the bear - I mean, they had him living with them for a month, they could have noticed this a long while ago!
Nevertheless, I agree with the others, better taking the ted home; as for the shipping, they should pay it on their own as it is not a fault of yours

Hugs, Ariane

Fallenrose

I was wondering.. isn't it hard to stuff a miniature bear's arm with a wire in it?

Ariane

Fallenrose

Becca,

I love your bears and wish I could afford one but sadly I don't have that much money atm.

Hugs, Ariane
