Huge congrats on the article Shell!!
Unfortunately I'll not get to see it as our newsagents doesn't stock it anymore. I think I'll have to subscribe. I already to sub to T&Friends but that the WRONG ONE this time! Crumbs!
Anyways, if I subscribe, I still won't get THIS issue so if there is anyone who would be willing to go buy this issue for me in exchange for a current issue of Australian Bear Creations...could you email me? hayley@justusbears.com
Just 'bear' in mind that the postage is about $7.00 USD on top of the mag.
Now I need to go get my stickybeak puppy out of the trash can and have a cuppa!
(There, how'd I do???)Ooroo!
Daphne
You did great Daph...BUT...we have 'rubbish bins' not 'trash cans' Trash cans to me is Oscar and Sesame Street!
Zeus!
I have recently inherited my Mother in Law's 222k Featherweight. I remember her showing it to me years ago and being so impressed with it. Alas, it has been hidden away in the cupboard for a few years and the belt has perished. :(
I have done some internet searches to try to find a replacement but come up trumps.
Deb,
I have a Janome...and it hates upholstery thread, so even they can be temperamental.
If it IS a platypus...which it looks like it is..(although it looks very blue), it is indeed rare to see one. I believe this is because they are sensitive to light and are mainly nocturnal. (someone correct me if I'm wrong and I'll pull my head in!)
When you go into the Platypus enclosure in the zoo, it is very dimly lit and you have to wait for your eyes to adjust before you can see them. Hope it wasn't lost or injured. You must have a very open backyard near to a creek do you Matilda? You're a great one for keeping us all in suspense aren't ya!
Welcome back Millie! Husbands...they just have to fiddle! Awhile back when mine 'fiddled' with our computer, we ended up having to get a new one 'cos the old one never recovered. It's kept saying it had had 'fatal exceptions'. I told my hubby that I felt like giving him a fatal exception! I think he learnt his lesson though...if looks could kill, he woulda been dead long ago after that mistake!
I did think of inviting everyone to Australia Susan, but decided that was a bit unfair seeing as though the majority of TT 'ers are from the USA. Still, if everyone votes on Australia..I'm happy! Come on down!
On second thoughts...maybe we could make it on a tropical island in say Fiji or Tahiti, so we can sunbake and sip Margeuritas while we stitch and chat. Ahhhh!!!
Denise...this particular cake can no calories y'see...because it's on the screen and ya can't eat it! Ner!
I love teddies...what is your name???? 73 posts and I still don't know! Okay..I'm gonna have to go look at your site and do some sleuthing!
Okay.. found it....Chrissie!!!!
Satin is revolting stuff to sew with...yes! It slips and slides all over the place and every time I finally have the bits lined up, a sharp bit of skin near my nail grabs it and I have to line it up all over again!
When I said yes to making them, I was picturing eight dresses, all the same colour, and serging them through the overlocker like lightening. Nah...they are all different colours, and have a 5/8inch seam allowance (I'm a stretch sewer and bear maker...I never do more than 1/4 inch seams on anything!!!) so I've had to go real slow. It's only taken me nearly five hours to sew one! I can't help but think how much of a bear I could have put together in that time...but heck, your kids are only young once aren't they. There's something to be said for having all boys though!
What I find most discouraging is Terrie's story about people in China pinching your auction and therby getting you a bad reputation when they don't have the goods they have sold. That is fraud and ebay should have jumped on them quick.....it makes me so mad when TT ladies get their auctions pulled for tiny errors or even non-existant ones and these clowns get away with murder. If that sort of thing can happen Terrie, I'm surprised that ebay still has any custom at all. Your dilemma has certainly opened my eyes about ebay fraud, and I think if I was going to buy something worth a decent amount of money, I would be sure to exchange emails with the seller first, to at least try to establish credibility.
Kim....your little feltie is just great...you have quite a talent there and I especially love the shading. I think 'Surprise' would be a good name...my daughter rides a pony called that!
Maybe they wouldn't be that hard to make??
Here we go...I have the cake....and it's chocolate just for Sue Ann.
Wouldn't it be so lovely if we really could get together for coffee.
Maybe we need to have a Teddy Talk convention. If we make it for two years time, we all have time to save save save!!!
What place is dead centre in the USA??? (And don't say it's a desert!)
I would love to have participated Susan, but I'll have to take a raincheck this time. I am drowning in stuff I have to get done in the next few months and already wishing cloning was legal!
I am at the wrong end of making eight satin dresses for my daughters end of year ballet concert, which squeezed in around everthing else should take me through 'til about mid November.
Also I have been given the opportunity to submit a project for Australian Bear Creations magazine for next year as well as a craft magazine and both designs need to be ready between Jan and March. A bear shop in our nearest capital city has also asked if I would like to offer bears for sale at her annual Christmas sale on December 8th and thereafter on commission, which is great...all I need now is more hours in the day. Wish you could buy those on ebay!
I do everything so slow due to time restraints that I can't commit to anything that doesn't HAVE to be done at the moment.
I am envious of those participating though and am so happy that you are all tackling this with such great attitudes!
And I'm with you in that I think it should be compulsory for people to post pics of their swaps at the end......'cos we wanna see!
Thanks so much for doing that Daphne! You're a sweetheart!
BUT....
I can see the top twelve...but after that only Louise and Patsy and a whole heap of boxes with red crosses. What am I doing wrong?? :(
Oh..and I'm 5'6" and suffering from height phobia 'cos my 14 year old son just hit 6'. His Uncle is 6' 5" so I guess he may grow some yet! It's very hard to tell him off when he towers over me. Lucky he's such a good kid and I rarely have to get my knickers in a knot!
Thanks Claire..I'd love you to add my two sites...you are already on my page. I am happy with a text link but if you particularly like banner links, you can use my avatar for "Just Us Bears" and I've popped in "The Bear Cupboard" one.
I can't see why you would upset anyone...links work great for everyone and I can't see any reason why anyone would NOT want to be added. The more links you have on your page, the higher you rank in the search engines which makes your site easier to find.
BTW...when's your show???
Deb, I like the changes you have made to the site.I think the purple looks really nice. Would like to have an option to see a larger pic of the bears for sale though!
Also... in your wedding picture you may be a few pounds lighter...but you admit it's ten years old too...so c'mon, get a more recent pic up...and a closer one at that. I personally like to see who I'm buying from!
Melissa. I hope I didn't do the wrong thing in posting your picture amongst the bear pics from the last show...I guess I should have checked with you first...but I did think I asked when I took the pics. Would you prefer that I remove them? I would be mortified if I upset anyone by posting their pics when they would prefer I didn't!
I don't particularly like being photographed either, but I do think it's a good idea to put a photo of yourself on your websites....just so people can put a face to the artwork!
Shari...there's no doubt in my mind at all that your angel is good enough to enter. Do it girlie..and don't think about it for another second. She's superb!
Rita,
I can only imagine the pain you must be feeling. The man you love and whom you believed loved you, has betrayed you in the worst possible way! I am crying tears for you too. :(
There is some great advice here from people who have walked in your shoes. If you don't know how to find a lawyer...go to the doctors first, and they will point you in the right direction. You also need to find a councellor who can help you through this..it's going to take time. I'm sure you are still in shock right now.
Having already been in a physically abusive relationship, I would imagine your self esteem is already on the low side. Don't allow your husband to make you feel worthless and as though it's your fault he is leaving you. He did a cowardly thing by all counts, and although it doesn't feel like it now, you are far better off without him in the long run.
You can be a figher Rita...tell yourself "I'm a fighter" even when you feel like curling up in a ball and dying.
Sending you lots of hugs right now...and so pleased that Teddy Talk isn't 'restricted' to talking bears. We are here for you and sending courage your way.
A Fimo finger??? The mind boggles! Hmm...come to think of it, I could made a whole hand...I'm always saying I could use an extra.Hmmm.
It was Rikki Dilu...she made that adorable little mousie and bunny from it.
Thank you Karen.xx
Hubbies are priceless things!
Mine was considering buying me an eternity ring for my last birthday...but he decided it would be too hard to measure my finger for size without my getting suspicious. So he took the easy way out and bought me a photoshop magazine instead!
Eternity ring/photoshop magazine...hmmm...tough choice that one!
Had I known...I would gladly have chopped off a finger and sent it to work with him! Oh well, it's the thought that counts (so I'm told!!!) and the magazine has probably been more useful anyway.....
Perhaps next year I'll leave one of my rings laying around.
Sue Ann's idea is a great one! I do know that .ca and .uk and .au are all quite a lot more expensive than .coms, so if you are able to get one like that it's definitely better. Something else to consider, is if someone else already has the .com...do you want your bears confused with someone else's?
I know you said that doing a search bought up nothing, but they may be in the process of building a site. Also, I know there are people out there who buy up .coms with every name they can think of, thinking they will be able to make a profit selling it to one who really wants it. They don't actually do anything with them except sit and wait. Don't know how you find out what the status is with the name though I think my hubby knows how...will ask him tonight.
Another name that may be worth considering is Foreverteds.
Mel, I think the prices you put on your sweet little bears are more than reasonable.
I think ebay should be like the trading post and you only pay if you sell...it's just ridiculous the fees we pay without even a guarenteed sale.
Paula....very few artist bears give me an overwhelming desire to hug them...but yours would have the be the most huggable I have ever seen! If I had been at that show, I would have to have bought one of them, and I don't collect bears! I think because they are so large, they bring out the child in me ya know? They make me feel small again, cos kids teddies are usually relatively large compared to the child.
I love, love, LOVE your stand..it looks so professional and is set out beautifully. I'm glad you sold so well. I didn't really understand what you meant about some selling on the internet later that evening though.
