I want to sew, but I'm fast tiring of hand sewing everything, and my teeny sewing machiene just died... I need to clear enough space to set up our old sewing machine, but it's pretty complex and my room is pretty small!
I'm thinking of doing a traditional Steiff-style clown bear once my new patterns have arrived and I've worked out what I want to change! I have managed one small bear like patchouli, but i went a bit mad with the shading so she looks like she's been in a fight XD More work needed there...
Where do you get Tissavel from, Cat and Ellen? Sorry to barge in without my bear yet, but I just had to ask! I've been buying my sloth material from a Bridal company...
I love everything so far in this section... dammit! Everyone has such nice bears!
Lol, he looks like King of the Hug there Brenda! Tell her if she ever feels like donating another of her rare finds, I'm always open
I've seen the Compass Bear Deb, they're lovely And I know what you mean about Bings, I'd quite like a Farnell Alpha Bear like Winnie the Pooh too :D
Alfie is so obviously a Steiff it doesn't matter, Sam And look what that guy went for! He wasn't even listed as a definite Steiff! I guess you just have to be lucky... *prays for luck rain*
Aww, looks like I'll have to locate my raid elsewhere then, sinceAlfie is such a special bear... darn :P
I have to show you thins guy, who I've fallen in love with (donations welcome ) And he doesn'r even have his button any more! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi … :WNA:US:12 He's beautiful... If I could afford it I'd love an old bear.
I just looked up your Black Watch Bear, Sue, He's lovely! Is he the musical one?
Oooh, wow, Samantha, what a beautiful bear! Is he white or blond?
I've always craved a Steiff, but I never knew which one until I found these bears Shes a bit weird though: one of her arms has her hair running in the wrong direction
Doesn't matter, you can't really tell when she's fluffed up! She's centre-seamed too...
What other bears do you have? I hope not more 1906 bears, or you might have a break-in!
She's finally arrived!!
She's a 1988 Teddy Rose, as old as I am and she came all the way from the USA... I'm so pleased. She was quite cheap as she has no box or certificate which is a shame... but ah well! I think I'll call her Elsie May.
Do any of the rest of you have Steiff, or just artist bears or your own creations?
EEEE!!!
The whole situation with Harry... I do kinda wish he'd stayed the way he was (without giving anything away XD)
I think that would have made for more realistic ending, instead of the whole 'skip off into the sunset' thing. JK Rowling said she cried when she wrote the last chapter... mine were definitely not tears of joy
Oooh, thanks for the tip! I just remembered I have a book of skeletons at home that has a Sloth in it: can't wait to check that!
The onle problem is that the belly is pudgy to the point of obesity at the minute, but hopefully I'll be able to trim that off...
Thank you!
Awww, I love Eli and Gordon!
I've suffered a set back in the creation of mine, as I just started my summer job... how on earth do you guys work AND make bears? There's no time!
Good luck Samantha, I'm in Lincolnshire and we seem to have escaped most of the flooding, despite the torrents of rain!
I'm luck because our house is an old factory terrace, and when it was built a flood cellar was added just in case as we're close to the river: fingers crossed we won't need it!
Make sure you fill lots of buckets
Thanks, Wendy, that means a lot coming from a felted-face Queen like you!
Unfortunately he's progressing quite slowly: I started my summer job on Monday and it's taking a lot out of me! Plus I've had a few problems with his body... hopefully I'll have more done soon :)
Thank you!
She only signed for these 7, and I know she wants to write adult fiction now... I'm not sure sh has it in her: I like to be able to read further into 'adult books'...
I'd LOVE a James Potter series With loads of Smexy Snape *shudders*
You wait, you think the beginning's dark...
There's one cracking chapter, and one totally pants one: I hope you'll agree with me!
Read it, thought the ending was completely pants :P
I didn't see this topic, and made one for HP chatters to talk about it without those who haven't read it accidentally seeing spoilers... can't wait for more people to finish it!
Morning all!
Well, I just finished the last book, and I hoped it would be ok to set up a forum for those who've read it to chat about it and their thoughts on its content: I won't post any more than that until I know it's ok!
A lot happened that I thought it would, except for one TEENY twist at the end: what did everyone else think?
Can't wai to see how you all feel! Any bears being inspired?
I shade mine using the stippling oil paint method described on the boards Nothing too complex, but it looks pretty good at the end...
Thanks everyone!
As you can see I've added a new shot of his face: I hope you still like him.
Sloth loves EVERYONE...
Thanks Karen.
Sloth has just ad a teeny makeover, but only to increase his accuracy: I restuffed his head to stop one eye protruding further than the other (you can't see it in this piccy) and I've added the little dark markings around the nose, mouth and eyes that these guys have (I am a Zoologist, after all!) I'll add a new piccy as soon as I can, and I hope you like his makeover too!
Thanks again!
You make me feel like a million cats! (which, looking at my own moggies, has got to be pretty self-satisfying XD)
Beautiful face!
Sloths are such ancient creatures and were so important on many Continents, including Western US. You've captured that wise ancient face. Congratulations!
Karen
P.S. I really want one of your Sloths if you create more than one?
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
... wow, your words excite me :D
I'm glad you like his face, but I think he still needs some work: he's a little wall-eyed now I've double-jointed his neck, but hopefully some sculpting will fix that...
I think you'd better wait for the finished product before you give me a mini cardiac arrest with a comment like that again! At the moment his body is REALLY hacking me off, but fingers crossed it'll work out... it already has about 6 pieces too it, and it still looks funny...
EEEEEEE!!
I think I have turned into a giant mouse at your comment :P
WOW!
Maybe a hairspray would do it... I'm worried about it dissolving the acrylic fibres though: I'll have to try it on some scrap and let you all know
Awww, thank you everyone! I just got back from my birthday sleep over (lol) and it's so nice to see something like this
Thank you Matilda, I'm glad you like him especially: I too thought he'd be a disaster and so far the only MASSIVE problem I'm having is with the body shape: Sloths are a weird shape!
Thanks everyone, hopefully he won't be too many more months coming!
EEEE!!! I'm so pleased!
Hello all! I know a lot of people have been asking me about this guy, so I've decided to add a sneak peak at what I have so far: meet my sloth! (I hope he's in the right gallery).
It's a terrible picture, taken using only my desk lamp as lighting, but it should give you an idea of where I am... He's my first ever attempt at needle felting, eyelids and a double neck joint, which hasn't been completed in this shot, and his face still needs LOADS of work, so he probably won't look like this when you see him next....
Anyhoo, any tips and observations are eagerly taken into account! I can never see the flaws in my own work, and I always need someone else to point them out... please, nit pick away!
Thanks!
EDIT: I've added a shot of Sloth mark two, with the proper facial markings, as seen here: http://www.hedweb.com/animimag/sloth.jpg . Still working on his nostrils and mouth line, but the markings are there... I've also corrected his squint, but his eyelids need re-fixing...
Also, here's a video of sloth babies attempting to escape their boxes: the slowest escape ever!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vakWAogvl90
Let me know if you still like him... sloth loves you all!
WOOHOO!!! After receiving my samples of tissavel from Faux throw, I can happily tell you all that original sloth can be completed! The fur was Tisavel after all! However, I won't be ordering his fur until the end of the month when I get paid, so until then... Sloth Two proudly awaits your comments As you can see he's going to be much smaller, and is a chance for me to work out his patterns without it costing so much... although I've already made a few costly mistakes! I now have two disembodied sloth heads... I'm a bit strange...
Good news!
Thanks Eileen! Definitely something to consider for my next try!
Oooh, something alice themed XD you know...
'I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date....'
Is she a beardy? She looks so much like my dog Mollie did when she was little
