Ah so confused! I'll e mail christie bears, becasue it's driving my mad... really could have done with some piccys!
Thank you Sabine!
I know Veronica, it seems so weird! I usually sew in a cup shape anyway, but the ears seem much bigger than in the picture... I'll probably just fole the straight edge in A LOT :P
Thanks!
Hey everyone! I'm working on a pattern at the moment (shock horror!) that has strange instructions for the ears... it says:
"Stitch ears together leaving straight edge open (fine). Turn right side out and over sew straight edge (also fine). Fold ears in half again and stitch together making a quarter moon shape.
Ehhh????
Do they mean I should fold them in half along the straight edge, or up to the curve? It's hard to tell on the finished bear, which is here:

Can anyone shed some light for me?

We're with you, don't worry. It sounds like this is a pretty one sided arguement anyway, but if you weren't connecting it's probably best to go through the mess of a split now rather than later... Don't worry about disappearing. We do what we have to do.
Definitely lilies... I love drawing and painting them My final GCSE Art exam was based on Georgia O'Keefe's Lilies and Skulls: my art teacher told me (minutes before the exam) that oils 'just weren't my thing', and I got 98% XD
Woah, Kim!
I danced Ballet, Tap and Acro for ten years, and gave up before Pointe XD I just went back to Ballet today: my feet are killing me! At Uni I take Tap, Ballet (now!) and Egyptian Dance Couldn't say I wanted to be a ballet dancer though: so much stress!
Actually, today is the one-year anniversary of my veggie-dom!
We never ate that much meat at home anyway, but I remember coming home after a particularly bad set of exam results and literally gorging myself on bolognaise from the night before, and then being in agony XD Like I say, I wouldn't touch anything new, but I'd like the opportunity to try with some vintage pelts and of course i wouldn't mind paying the postage too: no way you should lose money on this, Mada!
XD Nope, it's me too! I can't do anything with a face... so creating one from scrapped fur would be nice to try :P
My friends here at Uni don't like it: they think I'm lying... a boy the other day (whilst drunk) told me I wouldn't save any animals... My friend Ben stepped up for me, bless him
Wow, that seems like a good deal! Now we need a Brit version
Gantaeno, cool! Zoology sounds interesting! And isn´t it sad, that so many teachers just have no clue???
Yeah, it is quite interesting, but SOOO hard! Just Biology but (supposedly) without plants in it...
I hated that teacher... who LAUGHS at a child's ambitions?
Jane, i think I still want to do what your granddaughter wants XD If it ever happens she can come to my zoo
I'm actually a grass eater, but only because my stomach's weird about meat XD
I think I'd have preferred to have a farm background, becasue now I get squicked out by dissections: and if anything, even a biscuit has a face on it I get attached and name them, and before you know it, I have to bury it... XD Sad, i know...
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that Brenda... that must have been an awful experience.
Probably she had a heart attack. Either that or a stroke: I suppose at least she was well up until she passed away: plenty more fun memories and less ill ones. You couldn't have done anything. Sometimes it's just their time to go: don't feel guilty...
Yes, i agree with you now Debbie, although I still believe we (not living in Onjacon!) shouln't wear even vintage coats: it still glamorises it... and it smells like wet dog when it rains.
I remember having this debate with a freind (she for new furs, me against) and I couldn't believe the crap she was coming out with... then she came in to see me a few weeks later and told me how awful she felt that the pearls in her new necklace had to be taken out of killed oysters... I was like ??? Double standards?!?
I'm not so bothered about the vintage stuff finding its was back to a cute state as it was in life, but I found one site whilst innocently googling where you could buy a new Polar Bear rug for $4999... it was so awful.
Awww, he's beautiful Judi! I'm seriously considering needle felted faces: If they come out a quarter as good as yours I'd be pleased!
Ahhhhh!
*mad dance*
Well done you, O Wheel of Squeakyness!
I'm interested in the international bit too, but it's not hugely urgent yet, is it?
Jodi, I'm sorry to hear about your split, but you've obviously made the right decision if it's still calm at this stage and you haven't eaten each other yet! Hang in there, good luck sorting it out, you'll be fine.
XD ye did too what?
And yes, we are the Great Guardians of the Slobad, feared by many, envied by ALL!!!
I distinctly remember wanting to be a window when I was small...
Then an astronaut, until my careers teacher laughed in my face, and then something biology related, to which I was told I wasn't really a science mind.... and now I'm at Durham studying Zoology.
My teachers were idiots...
I agree completely with Richy: people don't believe men can get it but in reality it can often be worse: men don't check there as often, and because there's less to remove it can be difficult to cure.
My bear will almost certainly be a more manly one: after all this should raise awareness for everyone :)
I think it's ridiculous about the minimum donation thing: how stupid can people be? Pwennies make pounds, and $10,000 is a lot of money to expect from one cause!
A hospice would be nice: my local hospice is wonderful: they took great care of my friends dad in his last months, and he had a brain tumour so he wasn't the easiest person to care for... maybe part could go to a well known organisation, and part to a hospice?
lol! If oyu looks carefully, you can see a mouth emerging...
Nah, theyll be playing the parts of 'stole' and 'throw' respectively XD
I think it was the lady who makes Fribbles.... ack, I'm so bad with names! I'm going to buy a few anyway, won't hurt to try! If not FIMO is fine but I'll have to do it at home, as there's no ovens here at Uni...
Currently I'm talking to a lady on Ebay who has some big feathers, so I'll hopefully be able to try that: otherwise it'll be transparent Fimo which should be ok too!
I can't wait to start, but I need to learn needle felting and armature first XD Plus the fur's in our musical, so I can't use that until the 19th...
It'll be a while, needless to say XD Which means more time can be spent on the pattern design, so hopefully I'll only have to cut, trim and sew each piece once XD
s the truly vintage ones, as they tend to be much shorter in the sleeves, and a LOT tighter through the shoulders and waist than a modern coat....with the exception of the 1930s men's raccoon coats. bear_rolleyes I believe the bootleggers in the US TRULY put those to good use packing around their various bottles of whiskey and whatnot bear_whistle bear_laugh And some of those are quite large.
Thanks, Debbie, what a mountain of information!
I've always been firmly against fur, so I have to get over a few ethical qualms before I attempt anything too: I'd never buy anything new so I was worried about true vintage: thanks for clearing that up!
I looked up 'fur' on google the other day and the first site had a Polar Bear rug for $4999... it was awful. £2500 and yu can have an endangered species gutted and laid out in your living room...
I've been watching the coats on Ebay to get a price idea, and I have to say they seem cheaper than most mohairs!
Thanks again
A Sepia shade of Prismacolor marker and a Copic blender needs to be in every bear makers supplies!
I've been in teaching situations where my scrap rag has disappeared; I've wiped off the nib of the blender from any color depositing on the inside hem of my shirt and students are amazed that it dries as if nothing had been there, and none of the shirt color is changed. It's a miracle pen; with the exception of fading out Black (which just smudges to gray) it will totally remove the Prismacolor or Copic color you've laid down.
Copic doesn't have a shade like Sepia, which goes with absolutely every fabric/fiber color you put it on. And there is a Prismacolor blender but I'm partial to the Copic brand, as their markers are refillable!!
Wow, you know your stuff! (Not that it's not obvious from your avvy XD)
It looks like I can order in sets of Prismas from Ebay: I'll definately look into it
Thanks Bobbie!
I was a bit surprised, so I looked at mine and thought I would let you and everyone know my backings, as they are such fab fabrics, others may want some.
Shhh! We must keep Mo between us Slobad guardians
No, it is lovely stuff: I'm seriously considering some of the crushed mink Tell me how that stuff works out!
I love your Rat Cat XD Where did you Rat making spring from?
You just expect it to be rubbish, don't you? And then it comes and its like...
My friend Laura was molding it into a cat shape on her lap so she could stroke it XD
