I LOVE Slobad You head to the registration office, and I'll begin work on the worlds smallest stripes!
I only have those two, but they've been bagged to appear in our college production of high society so it'll be a while: hopefully long enough for me to work out how to double joint and needle felt!
I know what you mean about the seam allowance XD i just add it on afterwards...
I'm not sure if you can get prismas here, but there's copic markers on Christie Bears, and another brand on Bear Basics: maybe they'd be ok? They're about £5, or £3, I think...
XD Yeah, I'm sat here sewing, watching a film and reading TT: life after exams is bliss!
Thank you again! I'll let you know if it works
Thanks, Gladys! Thats sounds really good: I usually use oils, but I expect they'd degrade the plastic fibres, so I guess using a plastic-based paint is the next logical step!
I will definately have a go on scraps first, i couldn't bear to mess this one up XD
Thank you!
lol! *prepares self for battle* En guarde!
I will definately try your paper technique Do you add seam allowances before or afterwards?
A badger-sloth: hey, we could market that one!
Oooh, thanks Sue: was it Honeysuckle furs? I bought both piees from them.
Ok, so I'm going to let it out: I want to make a sloth XD
He's going to be quite elaborate sadly, and means me learning a lot of skills that I haven't yet mastered, like pattern design from scratch, double joints and needle felting... I hope I won't be too disappointed! Hopefully I can use the highlights strategically, but if not he might look pretty daft... do you think stripes across his sides or head to toe would be better?
Thank you both I think this creature is going to be quite big: around 13" sitting? I was fooled by the shot of the fabric when I bought it, as it was all crinkled up and I didn't think it'd be that obvious: maybe you're right!
Thank you for the four piece body link: I'm going to pour over it obsessively now
Wow, that was quick!
It is nice, isn't it? I bought it from a company that makes faux fur stoles, a little nervous about using it, and i have to say wrapping it around myself has certainly warmed me to faux fur! It has a knitted back, unfortunately, but I bought my interfacing yesterday... I'm good to go!
Oooo, any help on designing four part bodies would be great too, this guy needs a pear shaped body and I'm not sure how to go about it: tryimng a model at the minute...
Hello all!
Recently I've decided to work on a new pattern for a creature, and I wanted to use faux fur to make it look more realistic along with needle felting, which I've yet to try... I bought my fur, but it's striped in darker and lighter shades, and I'd like to be able to blend the colours in so the stripes are less obvious... can anyone suggeast a way of doing this that will work but still be relatively cheap? I don't want to splash out on an airbrush before I've even begun to make a profit from my creatures, so I was thinking maybe a dye or fabric pens would be better?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated, as always
Yeah it wasbn't good: four days before my exams too. Still they got him so no worries there... She was so kind to me, so I'll either be giving her Balfur or a bigger bear: depends which takes my fancy!
XD Surely someone as talented as you could make a mock up of it for far less than that!
Imagine what the british retail would be... even I think that's too much for a bag XD
Ack, I'm so tempted to beg! I was wanting to try out real fur to see what it's like, but I can't bring myself to buy a coat (warming to the idea of vintage coats, but only rabbit or something equally common: nothing rare! And even then, I'm worried about accidentally getting a modern one )... maybe it's all in earnest XD You should find someone nice and close to you
I think you put a thin layer of filling into the foot, then the shot in a little bag (or the end of a pair of tights!) Then stuff on top. The legs need to be strong enough to support the body.
Good luck!
You're missing a piccy Check the file size: always gets me!
XD I'd quite like to take part, if one's organised
My grandad always has Scottish Terriers, which are really lovely dogs Hamish, the westie at his local pub, is very possessive and finds it hard to let people leave, but it depends on their characters: my grannys old westie Bunty used to get bored on walks and curl up in the tray of my pram!
Thanks Amelia
I've only worked with small details with FIMO, and it's held up pretty well: I just wasn't sure about the transparent stuff... I must try it
XD if you want to take on a swan, that's your calling! I'll see what I have: it's mostly short pile stuff anyway as thats what I've been using, so smaller pieces will be ok :P
I'm 'having a break' XD Gosh, I hate exam revision... I feel like I've done nothing else for months....
I have some mohair scraps, if you're interested You'll have to give me a week or so to finish my exams, but I'll start sorting my box out then XD
What size are you wanting to try?
XD Literally?
You're very welcome! Let me know if it works
Could you try getting a needle threader, and pulling the thread through the eye with that first, and then threading your needle?
I'm going to try it, though we mostly seem to get ducks up here, and they might be too small... when I go home I'll have a look along the Witham too
Otherwise it's to Lincoln, to mob a swan!
I think you'd be able to get away with free software, if you had a scanner and a graphics tablet... I got mine as a bargain on Ebay, but as it's a Wacom it was still quite costly: you can get them pretty cheap nowadays. They let you draw with a pen instead of using a mouse: that way you could outline the scanned pencil drawings yourself. You can even trace around your pieces on the tablet, if it's big enough
