3-400pix.jpg1-400pix.jpgNext step is the paw pad. You will be able to tell how to sew it together by laying it down and connect the pieces together There is a slight tipping up . Place fuzzy side of arm against bottom of paw and sew together. Right sides together. Then sew the out side of the arm to the inside of the arm. Right sides together. Leave a small opening at the back for turning and jointing.

Hay gang. I have posted the start of the project under a new topic. So go look at   *  Project from start to finish for new artists *

c035.gif  Heather,

Looks great my dear !!!! I have to get off my duff and get one !!! The darn programs are over my head though. But in September I have a week off so I plan to tackle it then . I am getting a little over lap also in a few places. Pictures are over some words. But it may be my computer. Just go check because I know how us artists are !!! Perfect . Perfect , Perfect !!  I am proud of you and your work . Very nice bears by the way !!!

14-400pix.jpg13-400pix.jpgNext I am placing body fronts together. Sew down the tummy side. Let it lay while you do body backs. Sew down body back and leave a space in the back big enough for you to turn it right side out and remember you need to have room to joint also. Make sure you leave a tiny space at the tops of both pieces so you can put your head joint through it. Now sew fronts to backs. I pin all around and I sew from center bottom to one side at the tops then go back and sew from center bottom to the top of the other side. When you get it done it will look like the last picture. Always place fur sides together before sewing!!

Comb any fur from the seams before you turn the piece. It will help your seams look smooth when finished. Mini's are harder but do it any way .You can use a comb , or pet comb or tooth brush , what ever works.

Jodi Falk

11-400pix.jpg10-400pix.jpg09-400pix.jpgNow place sides of your head together. I start at the nose and sew down to the bottom of the neck.

Then I take gusset and start at center of gusset and tip if nose and sew down one side to bottom of neck. Then come back and start at nose and center of gusset go down the other side to bottom of neck.I use pins to help hold pieces together along the way.

Jodi Falk

08-400pix.jpgNotice in the last picture I also cut out my paw pads out of wool felt.

Now cut your fur out. I use fiskers. I love them . Just snip tiny snips from the back as to not cut through to the fur . Just tell your self you are only allowed to cut the backing. If you don't do very small snips you may cut the fur to short around the edges and cause a bald spot after you have sewn the bear together.

Jodi Falk

o6-400pix.jpg04-400pix.jpgNext you cut out your pattern that was on the heavier card stock. Then I chose my Sassy fur and found the direction by sight but if you can't tell run your hand over it and the smoothest way is the  direction of the fur flow.Turn over your fabric, and put a small arrow in a corner of the fabric. . Make that flow go with the flow of your fur so the fur will look natural when you get the bear finished.

Trace your pattern to the fur following the fur flow. Flow should go down on the arms and down on the legs and down on the body. On the sides of the head the flow should go down but on the gusset you decide.Fur into eyes or fur away from eyes.

Jodi Falk

03-400pix.jpg02-400pix.jpgI cut out the smaller pattern and then traced it to a heavier stock of paper so as the pattern will last longer.

Jodi Falk

01-400pix.jpgHere is the project I promised to share.I will do it in stages so as you new artists can follow and at the end I will share my finished bear. I chose do take one of my 5 inchers and shrink it down. So I traced out my 5 incher on to paper. Then I went to a copier machine. I told it 75% and it shrunk it down for me. I didn't want to go to small at first , maybe next time. Here we go !!!

See how it is not a whole lot smaller, But it really will be when I am finished.

Jodi Falk

Brenda ,

The show promoter thing might be something to really think about.Who would pay shipping expenses? The artist sending out and the promoter coming back? Or all on the artist ? What happens if something is lost or stolen ? The promoter would have to hire someone to watch the table while she or he runs the show. Then box up all the bears to ship back to the artist if they didn't sell, and get them to the correct person. If it did sell what would there commission be ? It would be allot of work for the promoter. And if the artist was responsible for all shipping cost both ways ... well for one of my 5 inchers it would be around $9.00 for shipping and insurance one way so $18.00 for shipping if it did not sell. For one bear !! I am just not sure,... who is doing this now,.... do you know ,.... or is this just something promoters are thinking about? I would really think about this as a promoter,........I hate to sound like Debbie downer... but I would hate to see a promoter have trouble with this. A promoters job is really busy as you know already , just really think it through. But if there has been success with this already then ...... it would be something to try.  bear_grin  I would consider it when all the bugs were worked out.

E Bay I am still beating that dead horse !!! Before summer I did pretty good so I am hoping with Christmas coming it will pick up. I have been on Bear Pile for a month and they get allot of lookers, it is amazing, but not a sale yet , but it is still summer.B4B looks like it could be something , but it is really small . When I looked only one ....ONE bear was for sale. So yes we as artists need to look that over , that may be our new outlet. If we all jump in and promote that.

Who knows........In the late 80's and 90's sales were through the roof....THROUGH THE ROOF  for me and every one. So .... I am still waiting ......Collectors would come to the sales and leave with 4 or 5 shopping bags full of teddies !!! They would spend all their cash, run up all their charge cards and put a real big dent in the check books !!! But gas was not $3.00 a gallon !!!! So times have changed !!! But I refuse to let the artist teddy die out !!!! As long as my hands still work I plan to make them God willing !!!

Artists keep thinking of new ideas... keep sharing......and we can help the artist teddy stay alive !!!

Just got home from Garage sailing and had great fun with a friend. Ate to much, but spent very little and had Great Fun !!! All in all a good day all to my self . bear_rolleyes

Jodi Falk

You guys are funny !!! Were all artists in our own right !!!(PRO) I am sure we all have little secrets we have come up with. And we would go ... " Umm I had not thought of that" So maybe it will make our art easier to find out new short cuts or new procedures. And when I first started , even though I was already creative I had no idea what a pattern even looked like. I am going to do a smaller bear than usual this time. I took one of my 5 inchers and shrunk it down . I have a new idea of how to joint it that popped into my head so I am going to try that. And share it with every one who cares to look. bear_grin

Hay ladies I really took a 9 year break sooooooooo It is like I am a newbee all over again. And before I didn't specialize in smaller bears either. AND my name was Rankin sooooooooo I am scratching my way up also !!! Web sight is my next moumtain !!! Like I said before The computer is NOT my friend.... but I have learned allot the last 3 or 4 months though. I am sure it will all come around in its own time.

Any way, today is the start of my weekend off.I get every other one off. And First on my list is GARAGE sales !! Hope my friend feel good enough to come with me. Then tonight I will start the project and start doing photos.

You all have a blessed day.................................Jodi Falk

Dilu, the last doctor we went to the other day ( I always take her on my day off )  saw her diary of pain and every thing like you said to do and she told her that she could not help her because she thought she was manic !! Well I thought my friend would explode when we got out to the car because like I said she is no dummy. She always picks the best doctors in the area but....... It is really crazy !!!! Now they just have her marked as a crazy !!!! It is soooooooooo  sad !!! I would like to give you her e mail and if you feel so moved please see if you can talk to her . She can communicate on your level . Just tell her Jodi sent you !!! I will e mail it to you. But if you don't want to get in the middle I will surely understand. It is a pretty heavy discussion.

Jodi Falk

OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH    I just love PUPPIES !!!! Keep sharing please !!!!

Jodi Falk

Dilu !! Your a nurse ? I kept reading what you were saying and I thought .... Oh my she is smart !! Then you said you are a nurse. I called a friend of mine she has extreme, pain and is on 2 really strong drugs. One is a patch she changes every 2 days. But the pain she is in shuts her down at least 25 days out of 30 in a months time. Doctors just keep passing her around till she cant really afford to go any more. She is allergic to prendazone or how ever you spell it . She breaks out in blisters that seep liquid !! It is terrible. But I told her to look it up on the net . She lives , sleeps , breaths medical, and is very smart her self. Her daughter just became a nurse. Maybe this will help her also. I don't know how to help her any more other than just be there for her.

I just thought I would start the sharing by showing step by step how I am doing a mini bear. Smaller than my usual. And doing photo shots of the stages then showing the finished product . And if you wanted to do your next project the same you could share yours in the same way.I will start first, and let every one see how I work then You can share your steps. Just a thought. Maybe it would be fun. Some people have no idea what it looks like to put one together , or even what the pattern pieces look like , or what happens next. Thought it would be good for collectors to see as well as new artists just starting out .Do you still like the idea???
