It must be an Aussie thing as it is quite common to list the micron information of the wool. Merino and Corriedale are very common here, but I am finding it near impossible to get anything courser, such as Romney. I can order internationally, but the freight is prohibitive.
Thanks for all the helpful replies....I have had a chnace to experiement with both 22micron Merino and a 29 micron Corriedale and I do prefer the corriedale for the core....it's so much easier. For the next question, does anyone know any Australian suppliers of Romney?
I have just placed my first two orders (one for wool, and one for tools) to get myself started at needle felting. I have been looking around and have seen some amazing stuff. Already I have so many ideas, I can't wait to get started. Just one question though, I've seen a fair few articles suggesting that the core can be made from a different wool (I'm assuming it's to save dollars) and then covered in coloured wool. Can anyone suggest what I should be using for the core??????
Yeah....I was thinking of that, but thought I'd try the easy option first.
Thanks
Does anyone know where I can get glass or resin bear claws from? I know Gerry's in Qld sells them, but they only have 16mm and I am after something smaller. I prefer somewhere in Australia, but will buy from overseas if need be.
Thanks
I just love the blue one!!!
I'm sure this question' been asked before, but for expediency's sake, I thought it would be best to ask again. I have just started making mini bears (did my first two last weekend) and whilst I was very happy with the way they turned out, I thought the filling was a bit tricky. I am currently using a good quality wool filling from Gerry's, which I thought worked better than the poly fill, but I still found it quite difficult to get an even filling. What's the general consensus on the best fill for minis?
Maybe it's my technique and not the filling??? Is there a special way of stuffing mini bears? I used really small bits, hoping to get a more even finish, but because the wool is quite 'stringy' ie has lots of long fibres, I found I had to make it into a small wad in order to get it in the small areas without having fibres escaping everywhere, which made it quite lumby.
Gorgeous!
I wanted to make a teddy with life like paws.....so, after finding out that bears actually have five paws and not three (contrary to many cartoon pictures) I got started. I cut out the prints from an old leather hand bag hand stitched every piece in place and stuffed each section before sewing them up completely. The process took much longer than anticipated, but I was quite happy with the end result.
