As far as the Polyform Sculpey Superflex Bake and Bend goes, some artist from a
site that make dragons, demons and the like had called Sculpey directly and they'
said they do not make the single packs because they could not sell enough of them
to make it worth the while.
One of the artist's that was just asking "How" to make claws. I think if you have never tried
it before, it is best to start out with the polymer clays. Some are quite flexible. I have used
three differrent brands. There is also the cost.
The Apoxie epoxie clay is fine but like JoAnn said, you have to wait 24 hrs for the complete
cure of the expoxy. It is sold in small quantities. The thread here is "the strongest clay" so
I would have to vote for expoxy as well. Now, if you want the absolute strongest claws, that
are completely unbreakable, you get a blank of polyurethane poured and carve them up. I will
be posting my Polar with Apoxie claws and I will let you know how the polyurethane goes.....
Heather you will 1.2.
go to your hobby supply store and purchase a block of Sculpey or other brand of polymer clay in the shade that you want.
This is oven baked clay and depending on your size bear they will take 15-30 min ea at 275.
2. Knead the clay well,
3. roll it into a tube roll the size of an ink pen.
4. Slice off 1/4" pieces. Roll them into a claw shape, tapered at one end and put a slight bend to them so they
will look real .
5 Flatten out one end about 1/4" in lenth,
6.Take a large needle or ice pick type punch and make a hole through the flattened end for sewing through.
7.Place the claws on some aluminum foil on top of a cookie sheet unless you have a mini oven just for this.
8. Bake and cool
9. To sew on use waxed sinew type thread that doesn't slip or fine wire and to me these should be placed in between
the sections of paw pads so don't sew those ends up on the sewing machine.
It is a lot of time consuming work and some clays are stronger than others. I have also seen them made from rolled leather.
Some people carve theirs from wood or antlers or plastic so that they are un-breakable - I think this would make the bear un- safe
for children. I only use them on realistic type looking bears and not the cutie ones or the sweetie ones.
Thank You For Your Support!
Dawn lives in the mountains of Pennsylvania now...Boo Hoo
"Work is love made visible. "
Your work is so very fine and dense. Just great.
No fuzzy-wuzzies! Some of the best felting I have
seen.
He is so happy go lucky. I really enjoyed the photo shoot over at eBay!
This is my latest mohair bear, Dawn. She likes to get together
and "chew the fat" with all the locals..... I think she is a sweetie.
Maybe she will travel the world or at least a make believe world.
In either case, she is all ears.
Everyone is thrilled about your turned toes on this mouse.
I don't know how you were able to do it. All the ultra suede I ever
had was too thick for such work on so little of a critter. BRAVO
Thanks for your support. Have a wonderful spring
and good wishes for selling your critters.
Pansy is available on an eBay listing starting March 21st for five days.

I think the ribbons here in
the U.S. have different meaning than other countries.
Mostly ours are clearly marked and some of the contests
award through 4th Place.
In the URSA awards it is by all of those divisions as it is
in TOBY etc.
In the animal world, like 4-H, the green ribbon was the
"No No". It was the Award of Merit (we all have merit)
It was like "Thanks for Participating".
The people who are purchasing need to ask exactly
what award they won, what position and back up
documentation before shelling out the big beans.
