Well, it's been quite some time, but I've finally created another bear cub Please meet Riley! She is created from my bear cub pattern, made from imported synthetic fur. Like my other bears, she stands at about 18" tall, seated she's about 13". I've posted her on eBay if you'd like to take a peek!

Thank you both so very much, Diana and Janice
Hello everyone! It has really felt like forever since I've had time to make a bear... or BREATHE! All of our rescue puppies have gone off to their new homes, but we've saved one sweet little guy to add to our family! We named him Petey. I'm really glad that several of them have stayed pretty close to home, I'll get to watch them grow up for a little while!
I've finally finished my newest bear! I was afraid I'd have lost my touch after not creating for so long! Bamboo is made from imported synthetic, sooo lovely and realistic! He is a 'sitter bear' cub, and sits at about 12 inches tall. He's fully armatured and 6 way jointed. There are lots more details about him on his eBay auction if you would like to take a little peek!

This little bear is ADORABLE! I noticed him right away in the thumbnails... what a sweet little face
Oh GOSH< how completely adorable!!!!
Gosh, it's so hard to choose just one or two favorites... I really don't think I could do without any one of my tools! lol But I think if I had to say, it'd be my forceps and my Tonic Jim Holtz scissors. My forceps are the surgical grade ones, which were my dad's in the Vietnam War, so if I ever lost those I would be heartbroken for more than one reason... And I LOVE my Tonic scissors! THey cut through backing like it was soft butter!
We also got to feed them when they were old enough. Teaching them to accept food from humans/kids at an early age is also important.
Very good point! I hadn't thought about that, so I'll definitely keep that in mind as well. We've never had a dog that had food aggression - that's really important to me.
Your timeline was what I was planning on, as well... Limited handling and petting until they are up and running!
How exciting! It sounds like your trip was divine! Lucky you to get to experience all of it firsthand.
I'm glad to see that the mother is letting you handle the puppies. That way they'll be acclimated to humans better. Pups that are used to human contact from a young age socialize better with humans when they are older.
Puppies that are born feral or born in pounds do not learn to socialize with humans well. They are more skittish and hand shy. Some "pound puppies" never fully get used to being around people. Your puppies will have that advantage over those that don't have human contact.
Are there any young kids who can play with the puppies? (When they are old enough, of course.) Let some kids play with them... and let the puppies play with the kids. When they are old enough to adopt they will be more salable or adoptable if you can say that they are acclimated to kids.
My dad used to let us kids play with his pups and we just thought he was being nice. Of course, he was... but he was also crazy like a fox. I never realized until I was older, what he meant when he told people, "Oh, yeah, they're good with kids."
Yes! We have three kids - 9, 6, and 3... and neighborhood kids who I know would be gentle with them. Right now they aren't allowed to pick them up, or reach inside her crate, and we only let them hold the puppies occasionally - if we are monitoring. But as they get older and start becoming mobile, the kids will be allowed to play with them! I'm sure momma will appreciate the break! lol I am really glad that Bella is so accepting of everyone; she doesn't even growl at visitors... but she definitely watches them like a hawk!!
I will keep the photos coming! I love sharing them with you all!
I'm so sorry to hear about your health; you are in my thoughts and prayers... and yes, as Joanne said, we will always be here for a chat! I hope you find a diagnosis soon, and make a speedy recovery as well... Can't wait to see you return to bear-making! Big hugs!
I couldn't help but to share a few more puppy pics from Bella!
You've still got 8 healthy ones!
That's 8 noses, 8 tails, 16 ears and 32 little paws that are soon going to be pitter-pattering around your house!
That is TOO TRUE!!!
Leeann, thank you for this link! I will certainly check into it!!
Sad...
But, unfortunately, fairly common. When my dad bred dogs, there was usually one, sometimes two pups that did not survive.
There was more than one occasion when the mother killed the runt and tried to bury it.Out of all the times we had puppies, I only remember one time when the runt lived very long. We even tube-fed that pup and kept it alive for a couple of weeks but, eventually, it was just too weak to live.
There was only one time I remember when all the pups lived long enough to be adopted.
It's not a very happy thing to happen but that's Mother Nature.
Thank you... that makes me feel loads better I just knew he wasn't doing well at all from the very start. It just broke my heart.
I am so very happy, though, that all the rest of her pups are vigorous and healthy. Especially considering Bella's circumstances... She didn't get a very good start for her and her puppies during her pregnancy.
Thank you Peter I appreciate your kind words! You were asking on facebook... Runt is in the last photo, he is the smallest one, lying in front (you can see almost all of him), under her chin.
Hi Michelle, yes we are trying to work with rescue agencies to help get the puppies their vet care and place them in responsible homes. The shelter we rescued Bella from has very little resources and also doesn't have the advertisement that a big shelter would have to be able to find all of them good homes. So I am hoping that we can get a rescue group to help us!
