Hi everyone, I just have a question about jointing. The method I use is the washer and pin method but maybe I'm not doing it correctly because I find the head is very wobbly and although the limbs are pose-able they then to fall down with the slightest movement. Any tips on how to make the joint tighter? Does anyone use other methods for jointing? Where do you buy your jointing supplies? Your help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much guys! *hugs* I can't wait to get started on bear#2
I finally got around to finishing my first bear. Here he is, Gusset von Payne (called Gus), aptly named due to the headache his head gusset caused me haha!
I created the pattern from scratch and I used some black faux fur that I had in my fabric stash. In the end, I think his head turned out too big for his body, so I'll re-size it for my next bear. I also think I placed his arms too high on the body, so I'll experiment with that too. I sculpted his nose from air-dry clay and painted it brown - I kind of like the effect.
My mom thinks he's cute but she also finds him unnerving (it's the eyes lol) so while she adores him, she wants me to keep him in my room haha! I'm hoping to find some time to make bear number two soon (hopefully this time my bear won't look so mean!) and after making a couple more out of the cheaper fake fur, I hope to move on to mohair and see what it's like working with that.
Comments and critique are greatly appreciated!
Hey everyone! I'm back with more photos of the little guy
Last Friday night, we had our first real snow fall of the winter (about time!) and so little polar bear was able to experience snow for the first time! He absolutely loved it and spent most of his time ripping around all over his enclosure and rolling around in the snow.
To start off, here's a photo of the cub's father, Inukshuk, sunbathing on some rocks:
Meanwhile, Mr. Cub was rolling around in his little den, chewing on his paws and playing with some kids through the glass. Check out the size of that fore-paw! He's going to be a big one!
While he was rolling around in his den, momma Aurora was keeping a close eye on him through the class. Unfortunately, it would not be safe to reunite the two until the cub is big enough to stand his ground because the adult bears would have no intention of taking him back in. We're unsure if she even knows that he is her baby or not just a random cub, but she is much more interested in the little guy than her sister Nikita or Inukshuk (although I had heard that he too had his face pressed up against the glass earlier in the day, watching the cub).
Young master cub then decided that he had had enough of a rest, and went ripping outside again!
After eating some snow, he decided that biting his kiddie pool was a good idea:
I left him as he began attacking that plastic drum he loves to play with.
I'll not be going to the zoo for the next couple of weeks (going on vacation, hurray!) so I'll not be able to take any more pics of the cub until March.
Watching him romp around is really making me want to make a polar teddy bear but all I have on hand is black faux fur so my first will have to be a black bear (which is just as cute) I hope my first teddy turns out alright, haha!
I posted it to my Tumblr blog here: http://cristophine.tumblr.com/ with a link to the Ebay auction and your website
He really is the most adorable hedgehog doll I've ever seen!
I love this! Do you mind if I post it on my Tumblr blog (with a link back to your website, of course)?
Hi everyone! I just wanted to share this bundle of cuteness with you all
I volunteer at my local zoo (the Toronto Zoo) and this past weekend they finally allowed the public to see the little baby polar bear that was born about 3 months ago. He was rejected by his mother and had to be hand raised by his keepers but he's doing wonderfully and is quite the little firecracker! Here are some pics I was able to take of him and you can see a video of him playing around right here: click for cuteness overload
I hope to get some more pics of him next Saturday and I'll post here if people want to see more!
Also note that the little guy has no name yet and there is currently a naming contest going on, which anyone can enter (see www.torontozoo.ca for more details).
The names of the other polar bears all come from the Inuit language; his father's name is Inukshuk, his mother's name is Aurora and her sister's name is Nikita. I have pics of them as well if anyone would like to see! Just let me know
