Well - I have unliked the LTBB page...........there is way too much hypocrisy and back-stabbing going on - and a lot of questions left unanswered.
Just SAD...........poor little Hope
Go for it, Lisa........challenge to yourself is GOOD - keeps it all fresh and exciting
Huge congrats, Sue, Carol, Chloe and Laurie
GREAT creations WTG ladies!
Dire, isn't it - and desperately sad.................but I am clinging to the thought that she may have gone off and made herself a den. I also know, having been there, that it would be well-nigh impossible for the researchers to explore every nook and cranny, looking for an uncollared bear.
As for banning bear hunting?............seems to me there is such a lot involved. It's part of the culture, and hunting brings in a lot of money to the area. The DNR say they have to manage populations - how much of that is tied into the fact that hunting brings in revenue for THEM, I don't know. There also seem to be a long-standing antipathy between the DNR and Lynn. I DO think that Lynn's approach of EDUCATING people into the ways of bears is slowly paying off - but it is going to be a long fight, I fear.
Meanwhile we just keep waiting and hoping for some good news.....it's very hard
Me too - stand 28...........wish I could just go to sleep NOW and wake up there! Long journey ahead of us on Friday - not helped by reading of all the storms, AND someone falling off a cross-Channel ferry - ho hum!
Have to agree..........it's just lovely! And just as well that Jason went out to visit June to change her collar batteries, ptherwise it could have turned into a tragedy. Great too, to see June fully recovered from the trauma to her eye a few weeks back.........now all they have to do is get thru the next few (LONG) weeks!
Humungous congrats to all the winners - specially the TT'ers
Hi Thomas.....and welcome to the amazing world of Lily, Hope and family! Just one point.....you can actually buy the DVDs of the series from the BBC shop.............the version available from the NABC won't work in the UK! They have it on special right now......something around the 10 pound mark, and it has the added bonus of "The Bearwalker of the Northwoods" - an earlier documentary about Dr. Rogers and his work with the bears..notably June, Lily's mother.
Incidentally, I went to Minnesota last year for one of Dr. Rogers field study courses and I can tell you that these bears are far from deadly....they really are quite timid - and utterly enchanting
Awww Becky and SueAnn - what can i say........you just HAVE to go yourselves! I think every second is engraved on my soul...........it was that special! And Jack? Well- he just radiates a sort of benevolent calm - I swear if he had the right musculature he would really SMILE. And when you think of all the scars he carries...........well - he is one special , sweet bear
Oh Becky.....I could talk about the bears till everyone's ears drop off! The bear course was the most amazing experience EVER - and a HUGE privilege to be allowed into the bear's world. Everything Lynn says about the bears is true - they are gentle and timid creatures. They trust Lynn and are comfortable to be around him, and by association, anyone who is with him - but I witnessed first hand - any strange noise and they disappear! We were visiting with June, and heard another vehicle drawing up (the BBC crew).......and June vanished. And the "mother bears with cubs are dangerous" (!).........we caught up with Juliet and her three cubbies.......as we stood admiring the babies, she wandered off......."watch the kids will you - BRB"!
I don't think I felt at all nervous, right from the first moment - admittedly, I found the huge males a bit daunting at first - but on the last night there I ended up alone, outside, sitting chatting to/at One-eyed Jack as he sat out there on the decking, totally relaxed.........how SPECIAL is that? If any of you get the chance to do the bear course..........go for it - you will love every second.
And just to prove a point...........still waiting for a t-shirt from Zazzle , USA.......which was shipped 3 weeks ago. Last time I ordered one it took less than a week to arrive...sigh
Awww, Becky.............such memories.......I SO want to go back again! Isn't it almost surreal to actually BE there..you are so used to seeing Ted, Lucky and Honey via the pond cam, and suddenly - there they are - for REAL! Sigh.......love those bears
Sheryl......I live in Germany, and have to say that the Customs here are - well...........they can sit on parcels for weeks! Some things arrive from the USA within a week or so - others can take 6 weeks or more! So don't give up hope yet. Do you have a tracking number for the parcel???????
hugs
Maria
Hi peeps.......something that has been stressed on the LTBB pages...... the voting is ONLY open the citizens of the USA! You may be still able to vote, but they DO screen results and I imagine your votes will just be discounted...........sorry, but them's the rules!
All of us non-Americans can do is cheer from the sidelines
Done........hope you win!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great photos as always, Jane thank you SO much
And good to know that the show was a succes!
Me again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqYRr_pO … r_embedded........ this is a short video about Dr. Siew Te Wong and his dream for the Sun bears.
