I've tried several sites, but can't get on........oh well - maybe it's a sign to me to get an EARLY night and give my SQUARE eyes a well-deserved rest! From the latest posts on facebook, from the few who can still see what's going on, Lily is resting peacefully.
And she SO deserves it - I felt so sorry for her earlier!  Couldn't even see Charlotte the spider around to give her some moral support....

Wasn' t it just amazing!    I've been glued to the screen all day - but boy was it worth it. And yes, I cried too at that first squawk - and saw that brief glimpse of a tiny paw. Well done Lily - you are an absolute star. bear_wub  bear_wub  bear_wub  bear_wub
And, having just been out with the dog, I can't get back to the den cam..........sigh.......

Well - it's Lily's birthday today - maybe she'll give herself a present or two??????   Would be so nice - not least in that I might   then get to bed earlier - MUST stop taking a "final peek for the day"!  I popped in just after she left her den to go foraging - so there I was AGAIN, mesmerised for a good hour or more...........it's all right for her - she gets to sleep and SLEEP..........

Hi Clare
Just a thought - have a look at Probaer - they carry a range of Schulte viscose.      www.probaer.de
Their website does have an English language option, and they take Paypal!

I think my eyes look like that too, Becky - all this time glued to the computer screen! I swear that if I even look at a PHOTO of a black bear, I can see it breathing...........
Thanks for the link - some gorgeous photos - and I love the ones of the dog and cat checking out the bear in the living room!

Hi Lily watchers..
the BBC did a story on their website today   - the close up of Lily is quite alarming - her eyes are really bloodshot!!!!!!!!
Theres a couple of links to clips from "The Bearwalker of the Northwoods" too - lovely stuff !

Morning here.......and I had a look thru the posts on Facebook - seems the pic of the cubs was a fake, Susan!
Very happy later yesterday, to see that Lily had taken pity on everyone, and cleared away the bedding from the edge of the den, so we could see her again............
And there she is , fast asleep - and no sign of babies.....but it's fun, just watching Lily.

I love that pic of Lily, Sophie - the perspective makes her look rather cub-like.........
Well she has certainly made a statement today - she got quite active a couple of hours ago, lots of  meticulous grooming, the she actually got out of the den to rake lots more vegetation/bedding IN, and after getting back into her den, spent some time seemingly sorting through it............and then casually kicked a whole lot back out, half obscuring the den entrance! It's almost as if she has decided that a young lady NEEDS some privacy - and who can blame her?  Maybe the cubs are on their way at last...

Hi Cyndee - me again!  We were very fortunate on this side of the pond to be able to see "Bearwalker of the Northwoods" on BBC last  October.........a documentary about Lyn Rogers and the bears - apparently, it WILL be shown on Animal Planet some time this year, so hopefully, you'll be able to catch it.........
anyway - we did see Dr Rogers putting collars on several of the bears  -- NO darting and anaesthetic needed - didn't seem to bother them one bit! And before the hunting season starts, they thread big red bows through the collars, and also put up signs everywhere, asking the hunters not to hurt the bears........and last season, NONE of the bears in the study area were harmed. But as you say - it only takes one misguided nutter with a gun.........it still hurts to think of Bruno, the Brown bear who wandered into Bavaria a few years back. At first he had protected status, and several attempts were made to capture him........but then the state Govt seemed to give up, and declared open season on him.........he was shot within hours. BUT - the killer actually had to go into hiding - death threats!

enough .. MUST do some sewing!

Back again - forgot to mention - CYNDEE - she is wearing a radio collar - the research bears trust Dr. Rogers enough that he is able to put their collars on just as you or I would, on our dogs! The collars make the bears trackable, but also serve another purpose - telling hunters that these bears are special - DON'T shoot them! Makes ms feel sick to think that anyone would want to kill one of these glorious beasties - but it happens...

I was lucky enough to catch her awake for prolonged periods twice yesterday evening.........and it is IMPOSSIBLE to tear yourself away from watching, isn't it? Fascinating to watch her pulling lots more vegetation into the den, then sorting thru it - looks as if she is searching for little snacks? And I had to laugh when she was lying on her back and started grooming her chest with a front paw, while a back paw started going thru scratching motions - my dog does just the same when I find her ticklish spot on her chest.
And it's amazing how the number of viewers is rocketing up - on Sunday morning there were about 70 - and last night it was around five and a half THOUSAND - Lily has become a real STAR - wonder which manufacturer will come up with the first Lily bear?
Off to do some much needed chores.........

I was all set for a much-needed early night.......but thought I'd have just one more peek - SILLY ME! I got there in time to read that Dr Rogers was on his way to the den to adjust the camera - and that was me glued to the screen for the next hour or so!
I've checked a few times this morning, and other than the fact that she seems to have further adjusted the camera(!) - it certainly doesn't look to be in quite the same position - she hasn't stirred - sleeping off all yesterday's excitement?

OMG.....we will all be glued to our computer screens soon........I just spent the bast part of an hour watching Lily fidgeting around, grooming and then......and I thought they didn't eat while hibernating - having a little snack! She was pulling in vegetation from outside, and rooting around in the floor of her den - and chomping away at roots and - well - who knows what?!
Don't you get the impression some times that she KNOWs we're watching?????????

Hi Cyndee.......not sure of the time difference between us - was that about an hour ago?? I was watching too, and that was the longest time so far that I've seen  her  awake..........just so wonderful to be able to watch, isn't it? I was very intrigued to see her digging a bit in the far corner - since she was so fidgety, I wondered if she was making a more comfy pillow for herself..........I also wonder what she thinks of the camera - she is obviously aware of it.  Oh dear - this is becoming a bit addictive - sigh.........

You're right there, Peter! I was lucky when I first looked this morning......I was still trying to figure out the bear configuration of   the   gently breathing black blob, when she sort of woke - so I got head, legs etc sorted, and just sat there entranced! Can't wait to see the cubs when they finally arrive

OK - latest news ( from the Wildlife  Institute)is that the success of the webcam has crashed the Bear Center site AND the live streaming site........
bear power working against us???????? It's funny when you think that all we want to watch is a sleeping bear!

I think you're right Peter......I just checked and got the webcam link, but it wouldn't connect. I know that the site crashed when the webcam was first installed (Friday), so I guess we'll have to be patient. I'll post if and when I hear any more news

Some of you may be interested to see this.....the folks at the N.American Bear Center have installed a webcam in the den of Lily, a three-year-old Black bear, who is due to give birth to her first cubs in a couple of weeks.
Watching a black bear sleeping in a dark den is a bit like watching paint dry at times (tho strangely restful!), but I've been rewarded a couple of times this morning by seeing her "wake", scratch and give the most ginormous yawn directly to camera........fascinating stuff, and I'm sure when the cubs arrive, my bear production rate (slow at the best of times) will be significantly slower......
I'm actually working on a black bear cub now, and was idly thinking......Lily has got it EASY - she can do this in her sleep
Anyway - just go to www.bear.org/website
