I thought your response back to him was fine. As mentioned above, it is better for him to retract his bid as opposed to you cancelling it. I find it a wee bit hard to believe that someone would hijack an account just to bid on one teddy bear, but I guess anything is possible. A bid retraction will show up in his profile, which is a good thing for future sellers to see just in case he is not quite on the level and this becomes a habit for him.
Here are the links for both retractions and cancellations...
For him to retract his bid:

For you to cancel his bid:

Hope this helps!

Hi Deborah,
I'll have a table at TBAI this year (with my co-business partner, my mom), so we'll see you there! We had a table at TBAI for the first time last year, and had a wonderful time. It's a really nice show, the atmosphere is very friendly and warm. Considering that there is a 55 artist limit in the room, I thought they did a lovely job getting a variety of styles represented and I'm sure you'll fit in splendidly.
I think I've got Deb from TT convinced to come to the show this year and visit us, so that's one more person from the board that you can meet! Anybody else? I need to bury my head back into our gallery project for this year's show, it's a doozy!
Cheers,
Kelly
Ah Berta, congratulations to you as well! I saw your post of your bear on the mini forum, she is just beautiful! Mindy, I found your post very thoughtful and kind and did want to thank you for sharing it.
I wonder if the average person comes off more intelligently than I did when the Golden Teddies called me last year... I think my response to being a contest nominee was something along the lines of "HUH? WHAT? (silence) WHAT? OH! WOW!"
Kelly
Yup, I agree it's a coyote. Absolutely beautiful pictures, thank you for sharing them!
Kelly
Aw Sue Ann, don't feel bad! As long as Dumplin' understands, there's no harm done
Besides, look at it this way. If saying "Remember that one bear of mine that I said was nominated for a TOBY? I was wrong, my other bear got nominated for a TOBY!" is the worst thing that happens to you this year, you're doing pretty well for yourself!
Kelly
Hey Daphne, did I show you my bunny with shaded pawpads? Can't remember for the life of me
Just copic markers on ultrasuede. Easiest solution ever!
Hugs,
Kelly
Congratulations to JARED as well! I see the full list just got posted on TB&F and includes Jared's Pudgie Fudgie! Picture, picture, picture????

And what a powerhouse list of nominees it is
Hugs to all,
Kelly
Judi, congratulations and congratulations for your two TOBY nominees! (One can never hear that enough, I think!) All of your nominations are so very well deserved this year so big hugs to you!
Kelly
Good grief! Do people here actually think that I was the Kelly referenced on this thread?!?! Please don't hold me accountable for someone else's comments.
The Other Kelly
I would like to add my thanks for all your hard work! It was loads of fun to see all the photos and get the inside scoop on those who were there! You did a great job showing the scope of what it sounds like was an absolutely enormous event... the overall effect was breathtakingly exciting for all of us here.
It's OK to rest and put your feet up now (Kellie too)
Kelly
Sew, Daphne, Sew! I hope you added zeroes to the end of your bill each time they changed the size
I asked Daphne if I could be the Fairy Godbunny for her bunnies, but instead I got the little boingers named after me. ROFL! I think you should use Zimmy though, I just realized that Mimzy and Zimmy are anagrams! It seems appropriate somehow.
Hugs,
Kelly
Oh my! I went to a gawdawful dentist appointment, and see what I missed! Many happy congratulations to Sue Ann and Shelli for their nominations! I'm thinking they got through the H's today but didn't quite make it to the P's... I can only expect Judi to get her call tomorrow!
Hugs

P.S. I will keep my fingers crossed for all the talented Teddy Talkers who submitted bears, bunnies, mice and all of their other lovely critters. My mother visits this board though does not post, and she and I had such a wonderful time looking at all the submitted photos that you all so graciously shared with us. Big warm teddy hugs to everyone!
Here it is (I see this all the time at craft, jewelry and hobby stores):

Have fun today and good luck with all that SNOW!
I just wasn"t fast enough to tally both the artists and manufacturers before I left!
Remind us to buy you a calculator for next year.

Gee, I didn't even think about people having teddy bear art there. Purely out of curiosity, was she the only one with something along those lines? They are very cute
Cheers,
Kelly
Hey, somebody that I actually know! Dolores is a sweetheart, I sat at her table at the TBAI banquet last year and she was a riot. She won the public's choice award and her friend that was with her burst into tears, it was a memorable evening. Glad to see she was there, hope she's having a blast!
Kelly
Hmmm, I'm starting to hear some buzz about that show in November. Veeeery interesting
Love George and Martha in the photos above!

On one rare occasion, I bought a bear from a shop because I loved an artist's bears. Then I exhibited near him at a show and by the end of the show I had made my decision to sell it for lots of reasons - I didn't want it in my collection, but that's just my personal eccentricity.
The very first real bear show I attended as a vendor was such a remarkable experience. I had several people who just wanted to chat with and get to know the new artist. They wanted to talk about their lives, their troubles, and how much bears meant to them. Women told me about crying into their bears over this event or that one, or talking to the bears for the little things. After this had been going on for several hours, I had a woman stop and talk to me about something very similar to what Brenda said above. She had bought an artist's bear that she just couldn't resist, but did not buy directly from the artist and actually had never met her. She had looked forward to coming and meeting the artist at this show. She told me that as soon as she met this lady in person, she didn't like her enough and didn't want the bear anymore! I thought that was fairly amazing at the time, but now I understand the strong relationships many collectors want to feel to the artists. Sometimes they really have to like and care about YOU as a person to want your bears. I don't think I've ever seen a bear collector make a bear purchase with absolute detachment, as you might see from someone ordering a hamburger. Bears speak to their heart, and they buy what they fall in love with. There don't seem to be many who bypass a bear because of the presence or absence of a particular materials, but there are collectors who will bypass a bear if they don't like the person who made it.
I also wanted to say that there are several posts on this thread that really struck me for their heart-felt compassion and professionalism. Those are the things that make me proud to be a member of this community.

Well OK, but if you find yourself drinking less water over the course of the day so you can spend more time on Teddy Talk... it might not be working quite right.
Kelly
Tammy, when did you put your domain name on your web site? Quy is mentioning the propagation time frame, which is generally less than 72 hours. I was thinking by your earlier post that the domain name has been in effect for a month now, there should be no delays associated with your domain name after all that time. I see you registered it in January, which also led to me thinking it had been in place for a longer time. Just curious?
Kelly
Hi Daphne,
Yup, I got your last email and will get the synthetic you wanted mailed out today. Enjoy
Kelly
Hi Daphne,
I agree that any of the options you mentioned would work. Ultrasuede trapunto would probably work really well for this, though I can understand not wanting to learn a new technique with your short time frame. You could also just handpaint the pawpads onto an ultrasuede base, if you don't mind the lack of a 3D effect, it would certainly be the fastest and would look really nice. Alternately, do you like the look of something like this?
This is a technique my mother uses on her kitten toes, it gives a very pleasing 3D effect and is probably easier than trapunto. I know the basics of what she does, she essentially creates a little pillow of ultrasuede for each pad, stuffs it with the tiniest bit of polyfill to puff it out, then stitches the finished pad carefully onto the foot. I can ask her for the exact techniques she uses, if it's something that looks good to you.
Cheers,
Kelly
I would appreciate if someone could take a minute to try opeing my website. I have been having trouble since Saturday. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. My webhost tells me nothing is wrong. My hubby tried from work and he can't get on either today.
Thanks in advance from a frustrated woman !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Tammy,
I can get to your web site but it is not loading well, it's hanging on some of the images. Unfortunately one of the problems with free web hosts is that they are generally not known for their exceptionally good service. But I can get around your site just fine and see the bears, that's the most important.
Hope this helps!
Kelly
P.S. Should probably mention that I am on a very fast connection. Someone with a slower connection might not get to see much on your site, if the images were too slow in loading.
Sometimes people really do suffer for their art.
On another note, quite a few modern glues are what is called freeze/thaw stable. It means they can withstand multiple exposures to extreme temperatures, even to the point of well below freezing in some cases (0 degrees), without damage.
Hi Daphne,
I just sent you email direct through your info@ address through your web site. I found a few candidates, hope one of them will help!
