I was lucky enough to adopt myself a gorgeous bear!! I am the proud owner of one of Denise Purrington 's bears, from Out of the Forest Bears...

Denise I have always LOVED your bears....they are my absolute favorite. I always get so excited to see your new creations!!!

Anyway I was on Salt Spring Island home of Upstairs Bear....I'm sure you know who she is.....a wonderful lady and great bear collector. I stumbled upon her shop last year and cried like a baby when I walked in....seriously I was so taken aback by all the artist's bears! I never thought I'd see any of them in the fur let alone hold them.

So this year I bought one and it was the funniest thing to watch the airport security watch their screens as she went throught the xray machine!!  The lady was doing that thing with her head like dogs do...tilt it to one side and then back to the other it was soooo funny. Then she called a guy over and the two of them are nose to nose at the screen with these confused looks on their faces. I then heard her say" I've never seen anything like that before"  I said to Norm I think I better say something....so I asked them if they were wondering what's in the bag and they were "yeah" I said it was a teddy bear and I took her out and the guy starts looking at her and checking her out!! I was gonna start teasing him about looking up the poor little bears skirt but I thought that's probably not a good idea..LOL....so of course he asks me about the metal says"there's so much" so I explain the wiring and the weighting...heehee..the lady who was looking earlier is just smiling away!! So the guy shows me what she looked like..OMG!!!!! She looked frightening...LOL...it looked like I had some kind of alien or skeleton of a baby or creature or something.. :crackup:  It was way too funny!!!!! I wish I could have kept a picture of that xray!!!!

Anyway we all made it back and my sweet girl is sitting next to me.  I thought you might get a kick out of that story Denise.

Hey thanks Krista!!!

We may stay @ a place called Rosebank Cottages. It's in Mill Bay. I wish I had the time to look you up and go and play! I'm sure we could get into lots of trouble...   but I don't think I will have the time...however if by chance I do I will get in touch!!! Now hopefully we can get the flights we need and we can then booked it all up.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good hotel/motel in Victoria, BC?? My boyfriend and I were thinking of going for a long weekend but I'm having trouble finding any listings of hotels that won't cost 4 000 000 million dollars a night..LOL. We are willing to stay in any of the towns surronding the area to. Mill Bay, Duncan, Parksville...etc..

Any suggestions????or for those of you who live out that way...any recommendations????

It has been a very sad day! Farrah losing her battle with cancer, I believe she is now some where free of pain and smiling down.

And now Michael! I hope his children are safe and with loving people who will take care of them and look out for them honestly. They have a frightening journey ahead of them. I hope they will be well cared for!!!

Wow!! I am in shock. I can't believe he is dead. He was The Elvis of my time. I truely hope he finds peace now. I can't imagine what his live must have been like. I think he will be very missed.

So my emotions have calmed done some...It's been really helpful reading everyones posts! I know I don't know the whole story and I'm trying not to think the worst. BUT they were just to many things adding up to tell me there is at least some neglect going on. I also try to take into consideration that not all pet owners will react or do the same things as I would. If my dog is missing I will walk how ever long to get where my pet is...I will find a way!! Where I guess some people don't. I need to keep telling myself that. I feel better knowing that the SPCA will be following up and they said we can call and see if the file has been closed. So I guess that's something.

I will hold a special place in my heart for that puppy!!!

I really do understand that when I dog hits a certain age they will lose lots of weight and their teeth go bad not to mention numerous amounts of other problems caused by age. I also know that doing surgery on an older dog generally is not the best way to go, they never fully recoope not to mention being put under is a huge risk. However......she had not eaten let only had fluid for god knows how long, and I would like to know how a 15 year old dog gets up and walks out of a home?? PLUS these so called owners phoned the clinic at 4:00pm, they didn't go to the clinic till this morning. Now you add all those things together...and it's my opinion the dog should never have been released. The clinic said that the owners would be monitored....what a load of crap! I know my emotions when it comes to animals is VERY high but that poor dog was being starved to death and her issues were not being looked after. When it was in the emergency clinic she ate some dog food had an IV and looked better just from that. I know I don't know the whole story but there is no accuse for any animal to suffer like that. They depend on us to do the right thing and to keep them safe and healthy.

BTW I just got off the phone with my boyfriend and someone from SPCA returned our call and they said that they will investigate. So that's at least something. So we have two different people saying they will look into this. I know I've done pretty much all I can I just want to make sure. Thanks again for listening to me vent :hug:

OMG They gave the dog back to the owners this morning!!!! I am soo upset I can't even think straight. WHY!!!!
Apparently By-law officers and the owners came at the same time. The clinic is not legally allowed to keep the dog. Thsy vet spoke with the owners and told to do the humaine thing and that they would be watching them. That's IT!!!! WHY would they do this to this poor thing. I am so angry!!!

My boyfriend is now on the phone lodging a complaint. I can't believe they would allow this!!!

Everyone...Thank you sooo much for all your kind words and understanding!!! Just reading them brought me to tears. My night was terrible every time I woke up I would see this little darling......I was listening to the wind just howling last night and I was so greatful knowing that she was safe and warm. I of course sent her a prayer.

My boyfriend and I are going to go visit and I hope to get some more info on how everything is handled for here. The lady on the phone yesterday said they do what they can and then it's up to City By-law..I'm assuming that means the pound. I think the pound would let me know if she's adoptable  but really who else wants to adopt a 15 year old dog who has medical conditions? I would hope that they would do the humaine thing if she is really sick and in pain.

That's what my mom called me her"angel"...I was supposed to be there at that time....I'm so glad I was, even if it made her last few days better.

It's so cute my boyfriend was calling her Oscar cause we thought it was a boy........."Can we still call her Oscar?" he says...LOL it was very cute. I said I don't think she minds....

I will keep you posted! I just want what's best for her!

So today we were driving down a very busy street when we saw this little dog on the side of the road(not the actual road but the lane in front of houses..I can't remember the correct name) Anyway it just didn't look right and it was a step away from the main street where it would get hit by a car. So I said to turn around and my boyfriend turned and jumped the curb and I ran out to see if it would come to me. It was all disoriented and I have NEVER EVER seen a dog so skinny in my life. It brings me to tears just thinking about it!!! The bones were just popping out and it couldn't see cause of all this crap in it's eyes (I thought he was blind and deaf) and not to be to grafic but it's testicles were so distended that I was afraid of picking him up in fear that I would hurt him. After I made sure it wouldn't bite me I tried to coax him of the road and there's my boyfriend stopping traffic..I finally scooped him up and we went to a few of the houses to see if he belonged to someone but honestly I didn't want to find anyone cause I would of ended up punching them in the face for neglecting this poor little thing. So we took him and drove all the way to the SPCA only to find out they were closed and got redirected to the emergency. Well they took him right away. I can't describe enough the looks of this poor baby...I was literally crying when we left cause I was soo upset and it's not even my dog....but I knew that he was safe there and going to get some treatment.

Well I decided that I needed to see him again, so my guy and I went back cause I just needed to see him......only to find out that he is a SHE!!!! What??? They were not testicles but are very big tumor!!!! She's 15 years old!!! The lady let me hold her for awhile and she said that someone called them saying they were missing a dog fitting that discription and they were coming in..said that she has bad teeth and hasn't been eating!! Can you believe that! How does a 15 year old dog with a massive tumor hanging of her just get away from you NOT to mention NO food or water!!! I am soooo angry!!! I'm happy to say that the puppy looked sooo much better even with just a little fluid and she ate some mushed up dog food. I was so worried that these so called owners would show up and they would just hand the dog over but the lady said if they beleive there is abuse they don't give animals back. That was a relief! cause there is no denying this dog has been severly neglected.

So I called the clinic about half an hour ago  and they said that nobody has come. NOT surprising! and a relief to cause I know she will be safe there. So I did offer my home...I don't know what kind of medical conditon or anything like that or how long she has or if it's better that she be put down. All I know is my heart hurts for this dog. I think I will go there tomorrow and see if I can talk to someone about how things work and what is the best thing for her. They did put me down for"special consideration" I guess that's for adopting purposes.

I'm sorry this is long but I just had to share this cause I know that there are animal lovers here!!
You  know sometimes I really hate the human species....we are the only living creatures that will do that to another living thing. I know the majority of us don't but well you know what I mean. I just can't handle animal abuse I get so upset cause nothing is more innocent then them, other then children.

Thanks for letting me cry cause seriously that's what I'm doing.

I am not a fan of the shows American Idol, Canadian Idol...etc.... But I just had to share this! For those of you who haven't seen this...YOU NEED to watch this. I was moved to tears...it is so inspirational!!!!

It's a wonderful reminder to watch how we sometimes view others and how we can sometimes judge.....

Absolutely amazing!!! I hope this lady gets everything she deserves and more....

I had someone flat out ask me to give them a bear!!! I was so shocked,I wasn't sure how to handle the situation.
It was very weird and I felt very uncomfortable. I'm sure they didn't mean it that way(or maybe they did..heehee) Well I let it slide but I think they understood and unfortunately haven't spoke since.

I tried to do a search but didn't find what I was looking for.  I generally use ultra suede for the whites of my eyes, I would like to try to use something else and I heard about liquid paper being used. I think it was a pen of some kind, But for the life of me I can't remember who said it or where I saw it. I thought it would be a neat way to try!
Does anyone know what I'm babbling about???  :pray:

Does anyone know where we send our pics and info to Teddy Bear and Friends. I've done a search and can't find it. I haven't been able to buy the magazine... for some reason it's not available at any of the Chapters I've gone to. I still haven't seen the Christmas edition    that's just not right!! LOL

Quick question

I'm having such trouble taking a nice pic of my Christmas tree. Any pointers?? They either come out where the lights have movement or the entire tree is blurry. I've tried with a flash without..tripod no tripod, daytime nighttime...I just can't seem to get it right.

Anyone have any tips?

Well I used to Love ebay! I was never a really big seller but I made fairly good $ for my bears. Bottom line for me is I'm really finding it hard to trust ebay. Ebay is trying to get rid of the little seller. So people like me who don't list as often as we'd like to are slowly being weeded out.  I think I'm just going to lay low for awhile from ebay.

I created myself an Etsy store and I absolutely love how easy it is and the fees are peanuts.  I've sold one bear and one of my Mom's miniatures and I have only had it open since October. Could be a fluke and now I won't sell anything...heehee...but I don't think that's the case  :pray: I love that you can have 5 pics(cause as a buyer I like to look at the item I'm interested in) plus it stays up for 4 months. So far I really like it.

I just placed a few more bears in my etsy store and as a Christmas gift and a thank you to my collectors I am offering free shipping for a limited time.

So if anyone is interested pls have a looky see!

I will miss the excitement of ebay but I don't like throwing my money out the window either. Maybe it will get better in the future...

Oh Vicki I know how hard it is not to blame yourself. When my brothers place got broken into he wouldn't stop thinking he could have prevented it somehow but you can't and neither can you. It is not you fault honey don't even think that way!

What comes around goes around and these people will get what's coming to them. It sure would be nice to see... :dance: wouldn't it?????
