Daphne,
I just realised from looking at my bank statement..that the fee I get charged when transferring money from my Paypal account to my bank account is a currency conversion fee. But it's still only a dollar or so.
I found this topic interesting Paula, so thanks for raising it. I have always tended to think that once the payment has been made into your Paypal account...that's it, it's final and the cash will be yours. I tend to just leave the cash in my Paypal account to buy stuff on ebay and when/if I get a couple of hundred dollars in the account, then I transfer the money over to my own bank account. I wait until there's a reasonable amount because as far as I know, Paypal charges a fee to do the transfer.
Someone recently said on another list that she had been 'taken' by a Paypal sale. I have posted her email below...it has certainly made me more wary about Paypal. I will still use it..but will always purchase a tracking receipt and send using registered mail. But as far as I can see it..the person can still claim they were wrongly done by and get a 'credit'.
Anyway...see what you all think.
This is a warning about pay pal. Their system is flawed!

Thanks Shelli,
I love that term gajillion! And only you would know it's real term!
I did know of those freebie places and have used fonts from them before...but thought yours may have been something you made up. Thanks for clarifying that! I would imagine using the fonts in an avatar or a pic you do in photoshop would be different because you are actually saving the font part as a picture but in general with out of the ordinary fonts, people will only be able to see them if they are on their own font list. I found this out the hard way whilst looking at my website through someone else's computer. My whole site is done in Kristen ITC, but many older computers don't have this as a standard font and so it shows up as a default font, which is usually something basic like arial or times roman. So for a website, I have discovered you can get around this by 'embedding' the font in your web pages...and that way everyone will see it as intended, regardless of whether they have the font or not.
Just thought this snippet may be of interest to some.
And Dilu..thanks for your comment...you sure know how to make a girl feel special!
Oh..and about the paw prints Laura...I just took a photo of my front door mat which has the paw prints on them, then pasted them on a clear background and reduced the size. I have used them as buttons on my new website which hopefully will be up and running by this weekend...so much work!
Rather be makin' bears...
Hi Laura,
Thanks for the lovely comments about my avatar! I used Adobe Photoshop 7.0..but I am greener than green! I just decided that if Shelli could teach herself then so could I (how's that for the power of positive thinking!). The colour is very much 'not me'..I'm more of a pink and pretty colours type of person, but I just stumbled accross that background while I was playing and it seemed to suit that particular bear really well, so I decided that it would do..for now! Like most of us, I want nice pics...but I want them yesterday, and HATE wasting time learning stuff..I just want to be able to do it right away!!
Now that I've learned a thing or two..I'll try to be more adventurous..I haven't quite worked out how to get fonts other than the standard ones yet...nicer ones like what Shelli uses on her Avatars...but I will!
Millie,
We have a horse nearby who looks much the same as Captain did before you rescued him but without the sores. He is just really skinny and sad looking....and Anna wants to go rescue him!(she has taken the before and after pics of Captain to school today for show and tell!) Trouble is, we don't have an acreage...and I don't fancy just knocking on some strangers door to find out about the horse. She has this wonderful idea that she will rescue the horse and it will eventually look like Captain, and one day they'll ride off into the sunset together. The other down side, is that I am allergic to horses! So I think probably the best course of action is to phone the RSPCA and have them go check up on the horse...especially as we are heading into winter and he has no rug.:(
Sounds like you had a ball Winney!
I have a complete salon of nail varnishes...my sister is a singer and she buys all sorts of weird and wonderful colours, uses them once or twice, then passes then on to me. Well, I don't wear nail polish, so I've just been hoarding them (too good to throw out!) for a rainy day...just waiting for some wonderful person to sugest some other way of using them. Well, that day arrived when Shelli spilt the beans about her painted eyes!Thank you very much Shelli!
BUT...I had my first try yesterday...painted the first layer a wonderful sparkly silver..let it dry...then a lovely dark maroon..let it dry again..then this morning, I did my little scratches for the starburst effect, and to my complete and utter dismay, the whole lot came off in one big skin!:(
So..I have sent an SOS to Shelli...on the Edinburgh list and hopefully she will cut and paste her reply here too...just in case anyone else has had the same problem.
Definately WOOBLE jointed!!!
Hi Girls,
Joined the board a week or so ago but it has taken me that long to read through the posts from the past few weeks! I really wanted to catch up on what goes on around here before jumping in, and I feel like I know you all really well already! I know quite a few of you from the Edinburgh board too...but couldn't help but wonder what I may be missing out on by not being on this one too! I decided to make the pet subject the topic for my 'debut' post...as I am real animal lover too. I have soooo loved all your stories (excluding the spider ones eeeeukk) and was particularly moved by Millie's before and after pics of her draft horse. I showed them to my daughter who is horse mad and she was gobsmacked that someone could treat a horse that way.:mad:Thank goodness for angels like you Millie. x
I laughed out loud at Shelli's post about the racoons! Has anybody seen the movie 'Gremlins'??? There is a scene in there where the gremlins are behaving very similarly to Shelli's raccons...and I had fits picturing it all!!
I am a veterinary nurse by 'trade' and always have had loads of animals, but recently have started to cut back (as in not getting more when the ones we have pass to the bridge) as we are finding it's too tying when we want to go away. It's a major thing here just to want a weekend away. My mum will have my Silky Terrier "Holly" and the guinea pig, but we also have pet rats too and they can't quite come at that. In fact, rats are amongst the friendliset, most loyal pets you can have, but when you tell people you have rats, the disgust on their faces is plain to see. There is a huge difference between wild rats and the domestic type (they aren't even the same species) but to most people, rats are rats, period!
Anyway, it's good to be here, and I look forward to participating when I can...although I doubt I'll be able to keep up with you guys..you sure talk alot!;)
