Teddy Talk: Creating, Collecting, Connecting

Hi all,

  I have been playing around with my bear sizes and thought I would give mini bears a go. Well I found the smallest/mini that I can handle is a 5" size. My hands and mind just will not get me any smaller.

So I would like to introduce you to one of my mini 5" Bears which does not have a name yet. He is made from a short pile light brown Mohair. He is for sale if any one is interesed just email me directly.

I love this topic. I am also not wanting to upset the basket as well so please do not take what I say personally. I use synthetic furs as well as mohair. I LOVE BOTH  I used to think the same as a few others that by using sythentic fur was in so many words not a good thing, but that was way back when the quality of sythentic fur was not as good as it is now! Synthetics have come a long way!!! The colors and the lengths of synthetics are great. I have seen some fabulous creations with both synthetic and Mohair and just love them all. I think it all depends on what look of bear or critter you are creating as to what you use fur wise. I like to use either to get a varity of looks for my bears and critters.

I have to think back to what my Grandmother made and from the materials she used that was just lying around the house. I can just hear her say "It is what one does with the material not the material itself"!!!!!  That is what makes one a true Artist I think I have also heard that from some where else too.

As to where to buy. I have gotten some really nice synthetic furs my Mom found at a garage sale belive it or not. I do not know where it was purchased or what type but it was really nice. You may also check out your local fabric stores. I know here in Kansas city there is a fabric store downtown somewhere I need to check out. Some private owned stores stock furs for people to make fur coats which are the higher quality synthetics. Some have a better backing than others which cause less stretching. I do find that some stretch can work to your advantage. I found one fur that has a slick woven backing on it and it was horrible to work with.

The best thing to do is expermint, expermint, expermint..................................

I have also had no problems using the Prismacolor markers on synthetic furs. They blend in very well.

Well that is my 2 cents worth and again I am not trying to upset anyone!!!!! I can see all types of advantages to using both Synthetic fur and Mohair. They are both wonderful to use to create wonderful Bears and Critters.

Hi all,

  Can anyone tell me the best place to find a knitting pattern for a sweater or sweater jacket for bears. or anyone that would like to share there patterns for knitting clothes for bears. I would like to attempt to knit a little jacket for one of my bears.

Hi all,
  I will be uploading my new revamped website tomorrow. Please take a peek at the old and then tomorrow take a peek at the new. I still have work to do on my new website, but I at least want to get my main pages up and running.

Thanks guys, 

I do know that life throws curve balls sometimes. My main goals are to get a full time job and to loose the weight. My website was lost in my files on my computer, so that is one reason why I was creating a new one. The other reason I just wanted a change. I have just about enough done on it to up load it to my server, at the main pages. I can work on the rest a little at a time to finish it. As for anything else I pretty much take that a day at a time I know I don't want to get stressed out.

Hi all,

I am planing on a few new adventures this year- First I am going to keep a positive, happy, upbeat attutide. Second I am hoping this is my year to get a job. Third is that I will be going on a diet. I want to live a long, long heatlhy, happy life so I have decided to get myself in shape. Forth I am working on a complete new face lift for my website. I am planning on having it (or most of it) done by the end of the month. Fith I want to redo my bedroom and turn it into a very nice Shabby Chic bedroom. Sixth I am planning on creating more new critters and bears this year. I think that is a givin. Seventh what ever else might come up that I can think of.

So as you can see I am planning on being very busy this year. You can follow my progress on my blog in depth as well as my facebook page. 

Tomorrow I start my diet!

   I have pets and even though I can not smell very well due to my sinus problems I know that I have a few dog odor problems. So I did a little experiment of my own. I found that spraying Vinigar on items or just as a air freshiner or pouring a little bit in a jar leaving it open in a room works very well.
I just use the Viniger in a spray bottle and give the Bear or other items that are not washable a good spray. Let it dry and then you can brush out the bear. You can repeat as often as you like. Vinigar is a natural product and it does not hurt the fabric.  I have used this on some old bears that I have had for years. I have also used Baking soda, in some what of the same fashin. Just spinkle some soda on the bear or other items, let set for about 30 minutes inside or out and then brush out. You may have to repeat a couple of times. The internet is full of ideas on how to use Vinigar and Baking Soda. 

I have also found on the internet that charcoal like for barbiques or fish aquariums works well for odors. You would have to put the bear in a box or bag and just set some charcoal in something open for the smell from the bear to be absorbed. Do not get the charcoal to close to the bear it might leave a black stain.

Hi all,
     I have been kind of hiding out for a bit due to my newly created elephants. Here is my 6th one I have made just in the past couple of days. I just had to have one for trick or treating time.

Her name is Hazel and she is made from a deep plum purple faux fur. She stands about 10" high and sits about 7 1/2". She will be posted on Bearpile later this evening.

The other Elephants will make there apperance at the Teddies Worldwide Holiday Bear show!!!!!!

I am so excited about these guys I just could not wait any longer to show at least one of them off.

   Just wanted to share some news.

I have won my first award in the TBAAF awards. My little Meili won first place in the Novice Bear Category.

I was so surprised that I have looked at the winners for two days now just to make sure it was me.
