WOW split gussets!!!!!!!! I must try and look outside the normal box of the basic three peice head - thanks Marion for giving me more ideas to work on. However I'm still curious, I own a miniature bear with a two piece head, but can this be achieved with a larger bear?
Thanks so much Ali x
Hi, I found this pattern when I was searching the web - its a free pattern for a dachshund.

Hi just been drooling over Paula's beautiful bear Serious Stanley and she got me thinking (which I'm not use to and it did hurt ). How does centre seams work. Am I right that darts would have to be added to give the nice apple shape that Paula talks about? I have quite a few bought patterns and have looked at alot of books but they all seem to have gussets. I didn't want to pester Paula direct but thought perhaps use an open post so that others can have their input and maybe other newbies could learn something too!
Many thanks Ali x
Just noticed that he is no longer showing up as he sold so quickly - congratulations Paula
I'm going to stick my neck out and I may not be popular after this but ....... I hate reserve price auctions especially ones that start at 99p and the reserve is nearer £100 what is the point of that? I prefer it when they start off with the minimum amount they would be prepared to receive so I know where I am and not have to keep putting in a bid until I have reach the price that is wanted - it does take out the fun and excitment of the bidding. I totally understand that as the seller you want the best price for your creation, you deserve it, but personally I like to know where I am before I start bidding then I can decide which ones I can truely afford (or not as the case usually is ) and not waste my time trying to find the true starting price only to find its out of my reach - after all, the real excitment of bidding only starts when that price is reached anyway. Sorry if I'm waffling I know what I mean
Jenny I ALWAYS look at your lovlies because their pictures entice me in I do think a good picture encourages more people to look rather than a low starting price with a reserve. I once watched a bear with serious intentions to bid nearer the end of the auction, but on the last day the lady added a reserve to her listing so I didn't bother bidding after that. She didn't make her reserve, she relisted the bear with a higher starting price and no reserve and she got quite a few bids (me included) and she sold well, unfortunely not to me
Just another point of view - please don't shoot me

Absolutely beautiful Such a fab idea Jenny and such a great cause. This could be my chance to owning my own Jenny bear

p.s. I'm not a Johnson, but you can adopt me if you like!
Hi Shirley I LOVE your little mouse - sooooooo cute
Hi Lee, I used two magazines to help me so far, the TBCI Sept 2007 helps design head, gusset and ears and the October 2007 issue helps with the body. This is my first pattern and I found these articles really helpful (and easy). Good luck with your design.

Many thanks Paula, I read your post twice reeeeeally slowly (the sketch really helped) and I think I've got it  I will read the other posts you recommended if I get stuck - my poor wee brain can only take in one instruction at a time!
Thank you too Gail I will remember your method for the future when not using foot shape pads Forgot to say how much I love Cedric such a strong character for such a wee little fella
Hugs Ali x
I could do with a bit of help - I've manage to find a really good article in Teddy Bear Club International on designing bears which has helped me draw my gusset, body, arms & legs but I am stuck with the paw pads  I would really like to have foot pads shaped like a foot and not just an oval shape - I know tha shape I want but how do I get the right measurements so it fits the foot I've drawn?
Many thanks in advance, Ali x
THATS FANTASTIC NEWS  CONGRATULATIONS
Only one thing, I was going to join a slimming club tomorrow
Lots of hugs Ali x
That got the chuckle muscles working!
I read the first bit to the dog who looked at me in disgust and the last part to my older daughter threatening her that if she doesn't behave I will swap her for another dog! She thinks I'm BARKING mad anyway - my right as a parent me thinks!
Thanks Tami, great start to my Saturday
