Terry , when you are talking about the alpaca not being as soft as the bear you have. I think what you have is a bear made from alpaca fur . It is very very soft but it's not the same as the alpaca that you buy that has been woven with a backing. I'm guessing the bear you have was made from the real hide of an alpaca. There is a huge difference in the actual hide and the material that is processed through a mill.

Coopertalk.jpgHere is another new design , this COOPER and he's a whopping 5" in  height.  He does have arms and legs honestly they are just well hidden by the mohair.  He's available for adoption from my blog , where there is more information about about him.

Tippytalk.jpgI'd like you all to meet Tippy,  he's a tiny little guy at only 4" and he's looking for a new home.  Pop on over to my blog and you can find out more information about him.

Thanks Kelly Jo and Anna.

I am pretty excited about my blog, it's the first time I have done something really on my own like this. It is a work in process and I know I will stumble and make mistakes here and there but hey that's life and I'm not perfect. You have to crawl before your run.

big hugs and thanks for following.

Little Bear Guy

Lots has been going on and I have been busy working on new designs , some bears, some elephants and even a Hippo.  So I started a blog and would like to welcome everyone to come and have a look. I have just done my first post and posted a picture of my first ever project that I have done from start to finish.
So please join my blog and now that I have one I can join other peoples as well

Heehee  ,  very cute Bry. I just finished a hippo as well. But mine came out looking more like a male and looks nothing like your sweet little girl.

I would check with the client over there and see what they think would be the best way to send it. My concern would be if there was any weight in the pieces that you send that might attract attention via an x ray or something. I would think something going to the embassy is going to be checked over very thoroughly .

Wow that was actually pretty cheap, I mailed a small 9" to Australia about 4 yrs ago and it was in a 9x9x9 box and it cost me over 60.00 with insurance. It wasn't trackable either, it eventually showed up about 14 weeks later. Ticked me off that it cost me so much and took so long and supposedly that was by air mail  bear_grin  bear_grin .

Shipping over seas does cost.

I agree all are good, the other difference with the US suppliers is the cost of the shipping and the duty and taxes that we get hit with.  I live about 10 minutes from Disco joints and teddies and they are usually where we get our supplies from. They are family run business, great to deal with and have the best prices on mohair .  They would be my recommendation as you won't wind up with all the extra taxes and duties. (not putting down Intercal as I have purchased lots from them in the past  bear_grin  but shipping cost and duties and taxes do add up)

Thanks so much Jane. Hopped online to do a quick scan of post before work and now I'm going to be late for work LOL, spending so much time going through the photo's  bear_grin  bear_grin  bear_grin .  Thanks so much Jane I know how much time and effort it takes to not only take the photo's but in posting them as well.

Have two Shih tzus here and they are wonderful and loving dogs. They just give love all the time, they are stubborn at times but couldn't live without them.  They will make great pets for you and give you tons of love.

hugs and enjoy

I use a back stitch Tami,     C  A B  I would start at A and take a stitch to B then bring my needle up at C and back down at A and so on and so on. I use a strong thread but only single stitch. I will double sew along the gusset and the chin area as I also stuff very firmly .

I found this diagram not sure if it helps or not  bear_grin

I agree Daphne,  We have taken extra bears for a two day show but only put them out the next day.

Karen I so agree with you, I found at our last show we took a lot more bears than we normally do and it was our second best show ever. It is difficult sometimes to get enough made ahead but I have been doing my best to do that. I still work full time so I have a set a goal of trying to get two or three bears done per week, then I am able to set them aside and they are ready to go. Sometimes if there is a custom order in there then I might not get any done for the week but that's ok. So yes the more you take to the show I find the higher the sales are as you have  a better selection for the collectors to choose from.

Little Bear Guy

Welcome back Roxanne, have missed seeing your open mouth bears they are always so adorable.   Hope you doing well and we get to see more you .

I would say anywhere between 15 and 20 is usually a good number.  It all depends on the size of the table that you have at the show. In Toronto they are 8ft tables and I find I can fit 20 on it pretty good without it looking over crowded.  If it's a 6ft table then around 15.  But again it depends on the size of your creations as well.  You also need need for display stuff, like boxes and other risers to decorate your table.

Just one here, it is the 100 anniversary bear. It's the only one that I have in my hug. I actually traded with a retailer at one of the shows a few yrs ago for one my bears she approached me during the show as she wanted the one bear really badly but she did not have a good show and she wanted to know if I would do a swap. That's how I ended up with my one and only Steiff.
