Hi Sheryl
How big is Sydney?
I made a 4 - 5 " Koala a while back and was able to use an item found at a pet store.
In the aquarium section, there are some smooth wooden pieces already attached to a marble or wooden base.
They usually have several "branches", and my little baby Koala was able to sit right in there and lean back.
They are usually plain, so you can glue or fasten some realistic leaves on there.
Best of luck with the "tree part". Your Sydney is absolutely adorable.
Post some pics when the project is all done, ok?
Kind Regards
Lee Ann
Melisa

I'm in love with this little one.
Absolutely precious !

I agree with everyone too. Absolutely perfect as they are....maybe only a ribbon or neck ruffle and an accessory that is not attached like a little basket?
The faces capture your heart...
Beautiful !

I was going to say how about making your pattern two pieces for the leg, so you can lay them out straight. Be sure to add seam allowance on both.....
But, I can't tell you I have had any success with it.....have never tried....

Lee Ann :rose:
Additional thought - are you using short nap mohair?...or a sparse mohair?....This "knee" seam will be more visible....with shorter fur....
Relax.....breathe deep......put on some nice music......have a purring kitten near by.....
Those were the things that helped reduce MY tension while hand sewing
Also - remember you are creating a three dimensional shape from flat pieces of fabric so there is a little "fudging needed" as you sew around the curved areas.
Sounds like TTrs have all provided great suggestions..
Take care everyone
Best Regards

Kathy ~ These are adorable !!!
And I know what you mean about wall to wall fur.
I have coats and stoles hanging everywhere in my work room, and also have boxes of "scrap fur pieces". I won't throw away even one square inch of vintage fur !
Good to see some of your work again here on TT. These truly are little sweethearts
Best Regards

Hi Susie !
Kathy Myers is an inspiration to me too ! In fact, I contacted her via email with a question about "shading" and she referred me to an "excellent website with all kinds of great information and bear people to share ideas with". That's how I found out about Teddy Talk, and I am so glad I did. ![]()
Hi TTrs....I'm glad this topic came up
Because I work only with genuine fur, I was shocked recently when I saw another artist creation using the exact same combination of two furs, same colors, same size, and same animal. (not a bear) It was an unusual combination of furs and there haven't been that many made of this particular animal. I also notice this artist work seems so similar to other photos. Curious, especially when their creations come along a month or so after your own.
Each of us have a unique look and style to our creations. Some make critters that are distinctly different from each other and others make bears that all have the same "look" but a different "life story" and materials used.
It made me angry at first to see a creation so similar to my own....but....I thought about it... and if you set them side by side, they did not look one bit alike, only the concept/fur/choice of animal was the same.
Sorry, rambling here....but I wanted to add....working with real fur, I have to line each piece. I use a medium with a sticky back and once you pull off the backing, it is a permanent record of my pattern piece and the size, dimension I used on the bear. I keep them in a little envelope with notes about the design of the bear. If anyone were to contact me, I could assure them with all the drawings, erasures, notes included that this truly did begin "on the drawing board".....not as a photo copy of someone else's pattern.
What is that statement about "imitation being the most sincere form of flattery"...gggrrrrrrrrrrrrr....ok.....I guess so.
Take care all.
Best Regards
Lee Ann
