ORRRRRRRR!
rather than unscrewing the original handle and eventually breaking it - why not leave the handle alone and wire your letters on with separate wire...?
i've seen this idea on bracelets & neckalces....even on napkin rings!  wish I had a picture now.

ellen

okey dokey!  i think you could make your own better handles....just with plain (or fancy) wire (check the beading section) inserted thru the brackets...or take the brackets off and insert the wire thru the holes from the screws.
you could even curl the ends into fancy shapes..rather than try to hide them somewhere some how.

ellen

hmmmmm, are the brackets screwed on or glued?

ellen

hmmmmmm....could you permanently attach that handle ...or just some wire?  there must be insert holes in the box already (from the original handle) - so you could feed wire through the lid/top and simply twist or curl them on the inside to secure it.  then you could still put the beads on the wire/handle.  you can find some nifty coloured wire these days.   *still pondering*

i want that Laure bear!
wowzaaa!  *rolling pennies*

Darleen, hello!
i see you are in new york. do you know of any bear supply stores/shops in your area??
*all excited like*
i'm not far from you (toronto area) and would love to be able to get some "goodies".
thanx

this is sorta off topic BUT - i got a tip from a workshop a couple of years ago.  maybe some of you already do this.  be sure to include a good size piece of the fur (like enough to do an ear) you have used stuffed inside the back of each bear/critter.  sometime in the future a piece of your bear might need restoration and the restorer will be thrilled to find that piece inside.  i just wonder how they would know it is in there.....hmmmmm?

ellen

yup, no, only have them approved if you feel they aren't right.  check them out at the next show.  some artists just staple them onto their hang tags too.  not sure that's "kosher" but what the heck.  life's too short to worry about regulations.

ellen

Eileen, you don't have to spend $70.00 to register.  just $20.00 to register.  the requirements for the tags are on the website so i don't see the need to get yours approved for the extra $50.00!!  what a rip-off!  just make sure they are the right size, not paper and printed in black ink.  i got mine from Laven Industries....in toronto somewhere.  (i think - will check the website at work tomorrow and let you know for sure.)

Eileen,  that link i provided takes you right to the "higher beings" that regulate stuffed "ARTICLES".  they don't call them toys (they know better!).  the annual fee for us little guys is only $20.00 plus (god love it) gst of course.  i'm all for safety BUT it just irks me to have to register and wait for the "stuffing nazis" to arrive at my door....wanting to check out my goods!  haaa!!

here's info for anyone in Ontario Canada.
anything stuffed is regulated.  we have to register, pay the fee and make sure the tag is on the critter.  they strictly enforce it too.  everyone would be wise to check ....where ever they are.

jenniefer is doing some workshops in Toronto this summer too.
i took one with her last summer - fabulous lady & teacher!!  i'll always remember her "throwing" her foot/leg up onto the desk in front of me to demonstrate desiging a foot pointing out & down rather than the usual straight out & up foot/leg.
HAA!  nothing wrong with that of course - it just surprised me!
have fun!!  ...and we all want the tips you pick up!

LAURA!!
get off the computer!!!
:D:D

ellen

i don't know about Scotland but here in Ontario, Canada we MUST declare the contents on our bears....and it must be new material only.
:/:rolleyes:

ellen

OHHHHHH!   and remember you can't ship things/bears containing plant materials (lavender) or food (rice) etc etc into every country.  customs will grab 'em!  yikes!
bear_rolleyes

ellen

oooyy vayy!  good subject Shelli!
please encourage artists to not put scents in their bears.  like you mentioned....MANY people have allergic reactions to scents.  a beautiful bear does NOT need to smell "pretty".
i would give my left arm if the people i work with would quit coming in smelling "pretty".  why do you have to smell pretty at work???? :mad:
have a heart - make an unscented bear.
please.

ellen

HELLO EVERYONE!  goofy question .....
do you shade/colour your footpads before or after sewing them in?  i suppose either way will work but one must be easier.
