President Roosevelt is the approximate size of a 3-year old, the little black bear is about 11 inches from head to tail.

Mr.-Hunter-face.jpgMr.-Hunter.jpgPresident Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear cub, starting the Teddy Bear Craze. My Teddy Roosevelt Bear is made from a wooden body, fur arms & legs, handmade hunting clothes, toy rifle and a black bear on the rope also made by me from synthetic fur.

Thanks Daphne, would really like to know how they raise funds when they don't charge admission! I think with the adults I will have a donation bucket out, and the $1.00 per ticket raffle for the Moon Bear. I don't really like the idea of just a donation bucket for children, but I will give it lots of thought!

Ellen

Has anyone done a Teddy Bear Picnic or Tea for Children? I plan on doing one as a fund raiser for the Moon Bears. I have all kinds of ideas for things to do, but don't know what to charge for the event. All monies will go to the Moon Bears, I plan on doing ribbons for the bears, having snack, coloring, game, and info about moon bears, about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. What would be too expensive for children..................or should I just have the event and ask for donations?

thanks for any thoughts.............

Cutie! Our motorcycle club's mascot, Angel, went with us this past Saturday for the Critter Ride to help raise funds for the local animal shelter. She has her own seat on the bike, wears goggles and loves to ride!

What a beauty! I want a Leonberger, David says no way, too big. Someday I will have one! Love big dogs.....

Happy Birthday to both of you.....................

I agree with you Marilyn, the other bikes with me, including my hubby's, are all too big for me. I have a 750 Kawi and love it, the 1300, Venture, and 1800 are all too big. I tried sitting on David's bike and standing it up......didn't work! So I will stick with the smaller 750......

Well, lets see, Pat,  Delhi is about 3 hours south of us, but we do have friends there, Binghamton is about 5 hours for us. Next time you're in NY, take a longer vacation and come up to the St. Lawrence Seaway area, or to the Adirondack Park, beautiful country................

Daphne, probablty won't have much time for anything other than the planned programs when we are in NH. We will be staing at the Snowy Owl Inn in Waterville......plan to take the bike up Mt. Washington though!

Glad you all enjoyed the pics. It was a fantastic trip, even in the rain......5 days home and am still waiting for the boots to dry!!!!  bear_tongue

pa-3.jpgpa-2.jpgskyline-5.jpgskyline-2.jpgskyline-8.jpgskyline-4.jpgpocono-1.jpgDavid & I went on a motorcycle trip last week. We left on Tuesday afternoon and returned home Sunday night. We met another couple from our club and spent our first night in Westmoreland, NY, only drove 2 1/2 hours that day. The next day we drove Rt. 8 through small NY towns, into PA Rt. 191 then Rt. 6 and 209 through the Poconos into Stroudsburg for the night.......talk about rain!!! The next morning we read that a tornado went through about 1 1/2 miles from where we were standing!

Day 3 took us across PA on rt 209 through small mining towns, talk about hills! We did get on the highway to get around Harrisburg, but got off onto Rt. 11 as soon as we could, finally arriving at our motel in Stephen's City, VA where we stayed for 2 nights. Beautiful warm weather this day. Day 4 we hit the Skyline Drive and drove 109 miles. Unfortunately, the weather decided to rain, but it finally cleared.....then, all of a sudden, I was waved around to the front of the group and got pictures of the Black Bear. He was on the other side of the road, minding his own business eating leaves and such. David moved his bike, making the bear sniff, decided he had enough of being on display, so he took off up the hill. It was so awesome being so close to a wild bear, with nothing in between us!

Our trip was beginning to end as on Day 5 we headed North up Rt. 522 through PA, WV, MD and PA, finally arriving in Elmira, NY for our last night on the road. We drove 325 miles this day, but the roads were wonderful, the weather warm and sunny, great day for a ride. Day 6 we changed our route because the racing was starting in Watkins Glen, so we headed East before heading North, only to be detoured back West because of Bicycle Racing. The rain started once again, but who cares, we were already soaking wet! Total miles driven: 1449 I tried to post the pics in order. Some of the the pics were taken as I was driving down the road......gotta get them when you can!  bear_grin

Next trip to New Hamsphire Aug 21 - 23. Next Year.....NOVA SCOTIA AND NEWFOUNDLAND! Can't wait!!!!

It takes some doing, but the Dog Whisperer ideas do work. When we put our hands on our hips and stand in front of Ti, he will back off and lay down.....it is amazing what can happen when you show them YOU are the leader of the pack, not them!

Good Luck! let us know how things work.......

My Main reason for making Teddy Bears is my feeling that EVERYONE needs a cuddly animal to hug!

One of the best bears that got adopted was at an early show, I had only been making bears for a couple of years, a woman came into my booth with her Mom in a wheelchair. Mom had ad a stroke and did not show much emotion, movement, nothing. The woman took one of the bears, showed it to Mom. Mom tried to move and say something. The woman adopted the bear, I put the bear on Mom's shoulder so she could feel him. Mom laid her head down on the bear, smiled, and off they went.............

My Dad asked for his Bear when he came out of surgery. My great-niece has 'adopted' the Granddad bear I made for their family because she misses Great-Granddaddy sooooo much.

So much bear (and other stuffed critters) can do.......and yes, I feel thier expresions chance!

Well, yes, I guess I was brave (or foolish)  for doing this, didn't realize until after and I start thinking about all that happened!.......and, Bearyfun732, most of the students were idiots and did not know how to sew........that's a reason the machines kept breaking!  bear_tongue  It would have worked better if I had another week with them, but I don't know if I could stand to be with them that much longer!

Actually, for their age and skill level, I think they did absolutely great! and, I will be mailing letters out to other area schools offering this opportunity to their Home & Careers classes......................

MB-wksp-2.jpgMB-wksp-1.jpgMB-wksp-3.jpgThe past few weeks were very busy for me. I traveled 1 hour each way every day to teach 28 7th graders how to cut/sew/finish a Moon Bear. It was rewarding, frustraiting, exciting, enfuriating, challenging......what other words can I say? The kids were excited, and for the most part, listenend. Of course, things didn't always go well, and I ended up 'repairing' most of them the night before the last class. The biggest problem was the sewing machines.... schools don't really use them and they sit. We started with 7 working machines, ended with 2 that still worked. plus the 2 that I brought with me......if the schools would just keep them cleaned!!!!

Anyway, the pictures are of the last day as they stuffed the bears and then they had group pictures taken.

Hi Gin,

Welcome to TT.

I can't say I know the bear you are talking about, but I have re-made bears for people who have lost theirs. If you have pictures, I might be able to do that for Bubbles if you are interested.

I get my poly-fiberfil right from Fairfield. They have my tax ID#, CC#, I just call them and they ship me 25 lbs to the house, usually arrives in 4 days, might take longer to get to CA.

Hi Heather,

I have tried to find out more information about the new laws that took effect this year, but can not seem to get any. I have asked my local Small Business Administration, I have emailed Congress Members and just get referred back to the SPSC and Handmade Toy Alliance Websites which, as you have already discoverd, is confusing at best.

The last I heard, the new law that took effect in February or March has been delayed because there was not easy access to testers.................

Good luck finding any more information, if you are lucky and find some, post the info or websites here so I can get more information myself!

Welcome to TT,

Ellen
