That is sickening.  I have to see animals suffer, particularly due to human stupidity!  My mother once went for a walk in the neighborhood (this was quite some time ago) and found a very injured baby groundhog by the side of the road, obviously hit by a car and suffering badly.  She came home to get my brother so they could take it to a vet.  As they were carefully bundling it into a towel to pick it up, another woman from the neighborhood walked by and said "Isn't that thing dead yet? It's been there for days!"  ARRRRRRGH!

I hit a deer with my car once a couple of years back, shattered one of it's rear legs.  Still feel badly about it.  But I stayed there with it until a state trooper arrived to put it out of it's misery, I didn't want to think that they might not find him on their own, and that he would die very slowly and painfully as a result.  Very unpleasant for all involved, even the state trooper did not want to have to shoot the deer, but he did what he had to do.

Shantell,
      I love all animals.......but  before you call the news #1 Deer shed their antlers
                                                 #2 When they get hit...they may run to where they feel safe and then collapse...perhaps from internal bleeding....could the deer have rolled violently when hit, ripping off the antlers?
                               

                   I just don't want to believe that humans are capable of doing something like that...

Oh Jeannie, I wish that were the case but unfortunately without going into all the gross details it's not.

   

Thanks again, everyone.  I've been telling everyone I know and anyone who will listen.         See if they come down my driveway again.  Hmpf!!!

    OMG!!  That is so awful Shantell!  It hurts my heart to think of that poor animal. If people who practice such cruelty had to suffer the same in return, there wouldn't be so much of it around anymore I'll bet!  

This reminded me of an incidence in a city close to us 1-2 years ago.  A few boys, young men actually, thought it would be fun to start an oppossum on fire (a living one) and video tape the entire thing.  They were turned in, the tape used for evidence, and then went to prison.  Just what they deserved for such a horrifying act!
