I think the best place I have visited was New Zealand. I absolutely LOVED it! There is so much to see and do and so much that is different from here. I loved the huge Kauri trees, and the art deco buildings in Napier, and the arts and crafts in the old university buildings in Christchurch - my favourite city there!, and Rotorua with it's hot mineral spas and Hell's Gate thermal area, and 90 mile beach, and the fabulously gorgeous Coromandel Peninsula with the hot water beach and Cathedral Cove, and the incredible glow worm caves, and the Pohutukawa trees (and all the unpronounceable names!  bear_grin ) - I could go on forever and I only saw 5 weeks worth! Can't wait to go back there and see the rest and revisit my favourite spots! If I didn't have family here in Canada I think I'd move to NewZealand in a heartbeat! Only think I didn't like was their narrow, winding, roads! (plus having to drive on the opposite side than we're used to - I'd have to have a permanent chauffeur!  bear_grin )

We are so fortunate to've traveled through a lot of the world - there are too many to name - each had it's charm.

In saving the commemorative quarters we realized that there are only 7 states we haven't been in so we have that as a goal yet.
Probably the most emotionally attached one was visiting Campobello & the Roosevelts encampment. Every thing in the house has about an 80% scale, just slightly reduced enough in size to make you realiz that the scale of the house isn't what we're used to now, even in vacation cottages. The emotional tie is my hand-typed and signed letter from Eleanor Roosevelt in 1959: when I was a Sr in HS, the term paper theme I chose was on the WPA, and in my innocent audacity for research, I started at the top! I wrote to her McCall's magazine, where she had a monthly column, and she wrote me the nicest letter giving recommendations on reading. I of course saved it, though not in the very condition for years, but about 30 years ago I had it framed in archival materials. When her postage stamp was issued, my MIL submitted my name and I reframed it all with the First Day of Issue envelope inculded. It proudly hangs in my dining room!

My all time favorite relaxing spot is near the top of the mountain up out of Boulder>Nederland Colorado - sitting along the creek or on a ridge overlooking it at Arapaho Ranch. The owning family has deeded it to National Lands Preservation or some name like that, so that after they are all gone, it will remain a wilderness area in the CO Rockies, some hundreds of acres between Eldora and Nederland.

I'd often seen the literary phrase "My heart soars...."  This is the feeling I get as we drive the 20 miles up out of Boulder along the Middle Creek Canyon - a wild and tumbling small river alongside the roadway.

Some of my ashes will go there as well as near the northern approach to a long valley between Golden (where my folks lived) and Boulder. Cannot recall the highway number but if anyone's made that drive, you'll know the valley I mean - sweeping views down into a broad valley with a rock formation running along it on the east side, resembling a dragon or triceratops backbone ridges.

Thx for sending me along Memory Lane!! I needed that today!

Vegas, baby, Yeah!   Sorry, just had to type that!  Other than Vegas would be San Francisco where my bestest friend in the world lives, and San Jose just for the Winchester Mystery Mansion.  I have Biltmore Estate about an hour away, but Winchester has a major amount of character.

Haven't read all the posts so sorry if this has been mentioned but I have to say "IRELAND" without question!! I love the coastline for it's rocky cliffs and the inland hills for their green fields, ancient stone structures and remains and the sheep!!! LOVE the sheep! Oh, and the food! You haven't lived until you've had a traditional Irish breakfast! The people are wonderful, friendly, fun and very generous folks. They treat you like family. I'd live there if I could! I was last there exactly 7 years ago this week! I can't wait to go back!

Runner up would be Jamaica. I was there as a missionary so didn't visit the typical tourist spots but the island is beautiful, the vegetation and wildlife breath taking and the water... so blue and sand so white. I wish I was there right now.... we have a snowstorm coming tomorrow!    Reality slap!!!
