Hi there,
Thanks to those who make this site possible and lively.
I am trying to date and value a bear I inherited. I used to play with him as a child but was always warned how old he was. Now that I have him again, he looks so small!! Measured him at 15cm standing and about 11cm sitting.
He's a cute little guy and I think it belonged to my grandfather who was born in 1895. The family back then had money (vacationed in Europe etc.) and lived in Newburyport, MA. I say this to help establish who the buyers were. I think I have attached the photos below. He's a Steiff. Interested in date and value if possible.
Thanks very much.
Cameron
Welcome, Cameron! Check out this recent post to find out how you can get an evaluation from bear expert Brenda Yenke: http://www.teddy-talk.com/viewtopic.php?id=52389
Given the size and condition of your Steiff, I'd guess that the monetary value isn't great, but he has loads of character!

Cameron, just from gathering information online, it looks as if your bear was made between 1952 and 1976. Look at paragraph #4 in this link. http://www.ehow.com/how_8674908_tell-st … -made.html Welcome to Teddy Talk.
Wow! Thanks for the quick replies. I am surprised he is not older but I see that dating technique in paragraph #4. Hmm. So he was probably not my grandfather's. Maybe my cousin's. Well, not so exciting but still a cute little guy. I may still consult with Brenda Yenke. But I'm in no rush. I'd still welcome other ideas from everyone. Thnx!
Ooh, just found this site, too. Has pictures of the ear tags and the corresponding dates.

Hi Cameron,
Your bear looks very similar to mine that my great grandmother gave me he is also a steiff the same size and very old. I found one identical for sale online a few years back that sold for around $100 I think it was, that bear was in perfect condition.
