Hi everyone, my name is Evelyn and I am from Canada. I have recently started bearmaking and just finished my first bear that I made from a pattern in a magazine. I would love to design my own patterns one day as well. If I knew how to insert a picture (if I even can, I don't know) here I would show my first bear off, I don't think I did too badly with him bear_original Anyway, I just wanted to say that I really enjoy reading the posts on this board and everyone makes such gorgeous creations, I just hope to be as good one day! I do have one question though, when you are thinking up a name for your bear business, how do you know if it's been taken already, and do you need to trademark it so that no one else uses it? I have come up with a name, just want to make sure it'll be all mine if and when I start designing and maybe selling them..
Thanks and pleased to meet you all!!
Evelyn

Hi Evelyn,
Welcome to Teddy Talk! I love it here too and love chatting with everyone. You will learn so much from all the talented members and make new friends. I am in England so I don't know how you would search for names already taken in your part of the world. I discovered that I was selling bears under the same name as one of the members here and things started getting muddled but she was fantastic and kind and she changed her selling name to something different.
It is easy to insert a picture here on the message board, all you need to do is:
make sure the picture has been uploaded to a website...either your own or a website that hosts pictures, such as Image shack (http://www.imageshack.us/) Then when you are writing a message and wish to add you picture just click on the Img button at the top of message box and copy and paste the code for your picture in between the two inserted imgs. Your picture will show up when you submit the message. I hope that is clear enough! I'm sure we would all love to see your finished bear, I know I would love to see him/her.
My eldest daughter is also called Evelyn, (named after my beautiful Mum) we call her Eve. Nice chatting with you Evelyn, enjoy your bear making but do be warned...IT IS ADDICTIVE!!! bear_laugh bear_laugh bear_laugh

Have a great Sunday,

Hi Evelyn!  Welcome to the bear board (one of them anyway).  This is a fast growing group!

To find out if your idea for a biz name is taken you could try searching the internet to see if it comes up anywhere.  Just a thought.

Hope to see your bear soon!
HUGS. Judi

Ok, well the link showed up anyway, I will try again til the picture itself shows up lol. I know that I have to trim the fur from the seam allowances now, as you can see a bit of fuzz on his mouth from the fur stickout out from the seam, and there are a few other things I know now to do, and what not to do, but I will learn from doing more I guess. Any comments would be appreciated lol :)

Oh OH Evelyn

I'm so glad you came to play and hope you stay!  Your first bear is fabulous!  Love his nose!!  and it looks like you did a really great job.  You should be proud of you....

I understand the new-to-this-addiction.  Is there still time to go to
TBA and get help?!?!?!

TBA:  TeddyBears Anonymous    :D:D:lol:

I know it is too late for me-too many supplies and ideas to think about giving it up.

I've only been doing it a year, this month, and feel like I have only begun to scratch the surface of bearing-art.

Congratulations on your little guy..

Hi Evelyn...Welcome to this board where you will find many wonderful bear friends and lots of help. Hey, you did a great job for your first  bear ! If you want to remove the fur sticking out of the seam...just use tweezers , it works really well. ...Winney

Hi Evelyn.  I too think you did a great job especially for a first bear!  I also like that you did some airbrushing on him...and not too heavy.

I think you are already a member of TBA...and once your in...you can never leave...but why would you want to?

Thanks everyone for your kind comments on my first bear, I am very proud of how he turned out. I used the prismacolour pencils to shade him, though the black pencil turned the fur around his eyes a bit greenish, instead of blackish bear_ermm I will have to try the copic pens or an airbrush system next time lol! And I will try tweezing the fur from his mouth too..
Thanks again! I am thinking about the next one already-maybe a bunny for my daughter lol

Evelyn,

I love love love your bear! We should all be so lucky to have our first bear turn out so great. He's fantastic. I bet once designing your own patterns you'll have a very special look that's all your own. I can see it already in this guy. Great shading! Does he have a name??

Welcome!

Welcome Evelyn,

Fantastic bear!... much nicer than my first ones.  You have made a very good start into a real bear career, if you should so desire.  For removing the fur from the seams, consider prying it out with an awl or the eye of a large needle, and then trim to even with the surrounding fur, unless you don't mind that there will be a bare spot left where you have plucked the hairs.

A Welcoming Hug,

Thanks again everyone! No, I haven't thought up a name yet, although the bear on the pattern is called Aaron lol I really enjoyed making this little guy, and I do want to try my hand at designing really soon!!

Beautiful first bear Evelyn. He has a lovely smile and looks so happy to have been created. Keep making more bears and you will develope your own look quite soon. There are lots of bear making books out there so you shouldn't be stuck for inspiration.
