While I see nothing wrong with "dog sweaters" for small dogs that can't tolerate the cold or for larger dogs that have to be out in the cold for long periods of time, I think dressing up your dog is a bit over the top.

My dad used to take old sweaters that us kids had grown out of and put them on his hunting dogs for protection against the cold.  Some dogs actually LIKED to wear sweaters.

Specially made dog sweaters with colors or designs on them can be cute but full-blown costumes just seem silly to me.

Dogs aren't people and I don't think most dogs appreciate being dressed up and treated like people.  I think dogs just want to be themselves.

Still...  It is hard to overlook the "cute factor."  ;)
I guess it's okay if it's all in fun.  Right?
