Hi,
I have recently discovered the world of Artist Teddy Bears. Can't remember how exactly, but stumbled across a gorgeous little bear on Etsy made by a Russian woman. I have since made my second purchase from another Russian woman and waiting for him to arrive. I've spent many hours on Bear Pile browsing all the gorgeous bears, and now have the urge to create my own. I've downloaded a tutorial and will soon be jumping in to create my own. I've noticed many gorgeous bears from around the world, especially Russia and Ukraine where it seems to be a big thing, but I'd love to hear from any Australians, in particular from Melbourne to learn where to get supplies etc. I look forward to being a part of these forums and learning all about the craft of bear making.
Welcome!
Hello Leikela and welcome to TT I too am a big admirer of the Russian and Ukraine style bears I love the detail that goes in to them and the lovely fabrics they are dressed in. I can't help you with the Australian supplies but there are some fantastic and very talented artists from your country who I am sure would be happy to help you. The Library here is a wonderful resource make sure you have a good nosey in there and good luck I look forward to seeing your creations
Hi Leikela and welcome to TT!
You will find many Russian artists here too and Australians as well, so I am sure that these can help you with information about suppliers.
I have mixed feelings about Russian bears: there are some that I absolutely love, but there are also some that are a bit too "modern" for me , but I do admit that there is a lot of talent among the artists from the artists.
Bear essence its your best bet for supplies in Melbourne. Gerrys Teddys and craft supplies and Tedys Bits have online stores but they are in Qld and Nsw.
Welcome Leikela - I wish you much fun by sewing your own bears
Hi!
The other suggestions are great, but the best one (IMO) has been left out. Check out:
Emma and Mark are wonderful- Emma is a great artist as well as very helpful. She has her own blog site for bear creating, and you can find both Emma's Bears and Fur Addiction on facebook.
They are very reasonably priced and Emma has some wonderful free tutorials on getting started in bear making.

Thank you for the tip about Emma's Bears & Fur Addiction... I've since got a kit from her and ordered some faux fur from her. The furs are absolutely gorgeous! Nice to have a cheaper alternative to using mohair/alpaca all the time (which are lovely for special projects but costs add up fast with them)!
