she is amazing! Not sure how you can part with her. Love her
thanks I will go and look there now
thanks so much . Will try that out today. Believe it or not I've done it before, ages ago, and now cant remember what ratio i used. Another senior moment!!!
Has anyone tried this and if so what is the correct ratio of PVA glue to water. Have heard that if you paint a mixture of this onto small mini cut-out pieces then it will strengthen the fabric and prevent stretch at the same time.
many thanks
I have read about these and am wondering what their purpose is, and in which stores can you find them.
Will do so . Thanks a mill
I have been using a 38 triangular needle and merino wool. Am going to press on and will try with the 40 only now. Thanks for the assistance.
Will try this way too . Thank you so much.
Hi Joanne Ive followed your tutorial on the DesertMountain Blog but the minis i work on have such a small muzzle - just under a cm to work on, and I imagine i;m not doing enough "pokes" with the needle. I 'm afraid if i poke too many times that i will split the velvet and shred it......as this has happened a couple times. Last time I tried stuffing the muzzle area with wool, rather than polyfil fibre thinking this would help the the wool to felt better but not much joy in the result. I think next time I must try it on a mohair creation rather than a longpile velvet one. I'll keep trying!
have tried this method too, but at the end of the felting when i'm happy with the shape, I find that when i pull at the muzzle bits of it come out......this cant be correct. It seems stable enough but not convinced I'm doing it enough
does this happen to anyone else?
thanks so much Autumn. Jou Afrikaans is beter as myne!!! Bravo
thanks so much
please meet my new dog
thanks so much
Marmalade is now on my blogsite
He is a ginger tom cat 8cms high and made from ginger vintage velvet and white Sassy longpile. Hope you like him. He is my second cat!
all your work is amazing. Realistic, artistic perfection!
you know already what a huge fan I am of yours. Your work is absolute perfection!
All you need to do is pluck out individual strands of alpaca or mohair ( in the length desired) from scrap fabric, and then individually root them into the area you want the beard or mustache. It takes lots of time but the effect is fantastic.
i only work with miniatures of 7cm and under. It IS difficult to see the stitches. Through a process of trial and error i have decided what works best for me is this.......
i draw a fine faint line with the softest sharpest pencil where i want my stitch line to be and then use invisible thread. It comes on a reel from any needlework shop but buy the fine clear one. They do make tinted ones . I tried to use the tinted charcoal one on the black parts of my mini panda, but found it was too visible and shiny so i started over with the invisible one.
The pencil is never visible once the stitches are done. Works well . I use magnifiers that i attach to my glasses rather than the light/magnifier.
Hope this helps. I find the turquoise and purple wash away pens are just too thick for really tiny creations.

aha that is so great to know. Thanks very much!
Many thanks to you for responding. Sorry it took me so long but i had trouble finding my own message!!! Tells how new i am at this messaging business. Yes i have been using a 40T needle, but i guess because i'm self taught and just experimenting i have been stabbing too many times in the same place and therefore splitting the backing of the longpile. Also as my bear is only 5cms it is a tiny area to pierce so often.
The only info i have been able to find online is from Joan's blog at Desertmountainbear...... And thank you so much Joan for so generously offering advice freely.
I thank you rkr4cds for the comments about needle sculpting the mohair in with teensy stitches. I never thought of that and i imagine it will work very well. Will keep you posted.
Am trying to get fuzzier, scraggly looking muzzle on my 5cm miniature bears and have tried rooting in some merino and mohair........problem is the backing fabric of the Sassy is splitting and making holes. I would imagine this technique would work better if my bears were made with mohair, but i 'd like to continue with the longpile velvet. Does anyone have any advice for me please?.
