Happy Birthday! One day on from my message, I WON'T be repeating my travesty of a song on here XD If I get any weird cards tomorrow I'll be sure to scan them in!
Actually bonobo chimps have sex for pleasure too, and they do it face to face... wow, I love my Zoology degree XD
I have some lovely Blue glass eyes on wires that I bought cheap on Ebay, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed! There's hardly any dud eyes, and only one broken so far, and that one broke WAY before I attached it to the head Even imported from the USA they cost me far less that the equivalent looped, and although I prefer loops still, these are definitely worth a try... I'm selling off a few pairs just so I can order in some more!
Thank you Bobbie and Chrissi!
You're right Bobbie, there is another topic about this, but it's mohair based: I'm using synthetics for the first time and haven't a cule about how to treat them!
I'm going to try the iron thing as well: unfortunately the creature is already made, and it's just one section that has to change, so it's a little harder to maneuver!
Thanks! I've tried spritzing it and drying, but it was taking too long and it was too late at night, so I had to stop XD I'll definately have another go now!
As far as I'm aware, bears go into shops on the basis that you get your money when they sell your bear, and the costs are usually quite high, like 30-50%... maybe you'll be able to strike up a deal
Wow, I'm just drooling over everyones amazing pictures of this event... do the awards happen in the same place every year? I'll have to look them up
oooh, well done! Wow, I'm amazed at how many winners we have (but then I think back on the bears and see that we should get that and even more :P)
CONGRATS!!!
Yes, because if I wanted to buy any of that stuff I would sit on this forum and wait until someone made a post about it...
WOW, two prize winners so far! Two new bears to covet!
Well done Karen and Aleta, and good luck to everyone else!
Yes, that's what I was worried about: the solvents warping the plastic fibres... hmmm....
How do you steam your creations, Bobbie?
Mohair killed my sewing machine!
Lol, it was only a mini one admittedly... I think most hand sew, or machine straighter parts like arms and body peces, and handsew the head and foot pads
Does anyone ere use hair products on their creations at all? I'm especially interested in faux fur workers, as I'm currently working on a creature in faux fur and I need to change the fur direction in a few places... and tips please?
EDIT: I've added the picture of my sloth, so you can see what I mean: this is the direction I need his fur to follow, but it is very quick to revert back to the opposite way!
Me too I like clowns: another excuse for using up those last scraps of mohair
You're mad: I love her!
I think it's her blushing cheeks She's lovely, but I suppose we'll all hate parts of our creations that others love...
Thankfully I am just incredibly wet: we live next to a river but I'm ok at the moment... it did wreck my Midsummer Ball though!
Good luck everyone
Ooo sounds like fun! I'll start doodling!
Oooh, definitely designing patterns, draping patterns and positioning arms and legs
yey, fun!
OK what has influenced you most to make bears? Being bored and wanting to make beautiful 3D artworks.
How did you get in the business? I'm not really in it yet, but a shop in my town has taken in some of my bears to sell... they're a bit high up though...
Want to post your very first bear.......nah I won't ask anyone to do that, I am not that brave, mine looks like a toad bear_wacko Ohhhhh and I thought it was sooooo good bear_tongue crackup Mine's going to be added: he's called Tedward, and was a Mothers Day pressie for my mum in March :)
How much did your first bear go for? Awaiting payment on my first bear for sale...
What was your favorite bear character as a child? I dodn't really have one...
What is your favorite mohair to work with and why? I like the curly finish: seams are less obvious!
Notice that his arm is being held up with my Doll Needle XD I couldn't work the cotter pin joints...
What you want is a Wacom tablet I got mine cheap on Ebay, but some of them are amazing: they have your screen reproduced on the tablet so you are literally drawing straight onto the image: mine works a little like a mouse, but with a pen instead... it's a Wacom Graphire3 I think.
Dropsy! That's exactly what Magellan had. I looked up his disease when he was suffering. Oh my God, it was the most excruciating thing I've seen. And he suffered for two full days before passing, and I felt so helpless that there was nothing I could do to ease his pain.

Glad you understand about the fish, Chloe. The poor little sweethearts.

I don't think theres anything we could have done once it was present, but I still feel guilty... We bought three new Lionheads (Carrot, Jasper and Harold) for the tank and Jasper only lived a week with us too, but he was a little bent in the middle: I think it might have been a genetic problem... Still cried, and I'd only known him a week!
I guess we're all soppy about our pets, no matter what
Yay! Hooray for Gypsy and her recovery!! Such good news! I'm happy it turned out so well.
It's true there have been lots of animal deaths been posted on this board lately. Makes me so sad. My beloved blue beta fish Magellan died a couple weeks ago. I didn't post it cause I figured no one would care that my fish died...it's not like a cat or dog. But it really upset me. Magellan suffered terribly his last few days. He had caught a bad disease. He was supposed to make the move with us to Massachusetts in a few days. We gave him a little funeral at our favorite park and put wildflowers on his grave. He was buried in a tiny matchbox. No, I don't believe in flushing my family members down the toilet.
He was a very animated little fellow. Everytime I looked at him he would do a happy dance for me. Magellan had a lot of personality for a little fish, and he was so beautiful.

Eliza, when my last fish died I was inconsolable. They're just as important as our cats and dogs in our hearts, and anyone who tells us otherwise is RUBBISH!
I've worked with Bettas here at University, measuring their threat responses, and they were the best thing to watch, bless them... My Moor, Bogglet caught Dropsy, so his passing was dreadful... fingers crossed they're in a better place now
Betty's a marmoset at Monkey World who was handed in by her elderly owner for a better life The piccy is of her, I think...
Wow, I'm so jealous! I want to work for them someday... did you hear about Jim Cronin passing away? So sad... :(
The marmoset looks like Betty to me
Oh no, not another one!! It's not a Sony, is it? Take Ellens advice if so: she's done it already!
