If I was making a traditional or classic bear, I would most certainly make sure the arms were perfectly straight.
However, sometimes a designer wants the look of open arms for a reason! Contemporary bears don't abide by any of the traditional rules...long necks, huge noses, weird faces, lidded and sleepy eyes etc. etc.
How do you distinguish between the two looks on a contemporary bear, when you don't have the ability to read the mind of the designer?
Hugs,
Sandi
Barbs,
Both my Mum and I have made knits for bears but have never used a pattern. Just work the size from the wool's tension guide (x amount of sts to the inch).
Incorporate fairisle or stripes as required.
Hope this helps.
Hugs,
Well done Jodi ... a lot of work ... but judging from the response you will have found it well worth it.
Been making bears for over ten years and mini's are still scarey to me ... it's the size of all those little pieces ... but you certainly make it look easy! And the results you get are such jolly wee things ... just them to bits.
Like Kelly I didn't have any stars to give you so perhaps you'll accept this trophy instead.
Beary hugs,
Me too Fran.
There's nothing that feels as good as natural fabrics! I love working with silk and use it quite often when making costumes and gowns for my bears.
Have a passion for laces as well!
Keep up the good work,
Hugs,
I'll give you some before and after :photo: Jodi when I finish the afters!
Hugs,
Jenn I don't think there is anyone here who doesn't at some time quickly read and run.
Everyone has busy lives and it's hard to post on everyone's thread. We you and you haven't offended anyone as you can see by all the responses you have received this time.
For me, it's back to the show bears!
And yes, do take Krista up on her offer of an avatar!
Big beary hugs,
OMG! OMG!
You know what I said about receiving a parcel from Intercal .....
How would I be at the Schulte factory?
I'll leave it to your imagination
LUCKY, LUCKY, IRENE!
Hugs,
Sometimes Patsy all the hard work you put in, is really worth the effort.
How lovely and generous of your collector to share her story...brought a tear to my eyes too!
Big beary hugs,
Hi Di,
So great to see you up and running at long last. My   have been answered! Everytime I looked I kept getting a password sign in thingy.
Site looks fantastic ... you just need to add my link ... use my Avatar ... I used yours ... hope you didn't mind? (I gotta have a link to my lovely chocolate supplier  )

Big Beary Hugs,

Molly is gorgeous as are all the other bears you have been posting here whilst I've been away...you sure have been a busy little bee!
Big hugs,
Hi Sue Ann,
Haven't had time to read everyone's posts, but enjoyed your photos and commentary immensely...some of your :photo: are so beautiful, they could have been taken by a professional photographer. Love the one of the wolf.
Sounds like you had a great time...and yes, Alaska is already on my list of places to visit!
Glad you're back safe and sound.
Big Hugs,
'Novice' means 'beginner' and I don't know at exactly what point you stop being a novice, but I do know you don't go straight from novice to ...um, master. (I hope I never become an 'expert' either, Jenny!
)
In between 'novice' and 'master' is a whole lot of space full of people with widely varying degrees of skill, talent and experience who still have lots of things to learn. So don't sell yourselves short people! Learning is growing and I hope none of us ever stop growing!

Well said Bonnie,
I thoroughly agree with you.
Hugs,
Sandra,
I've been making bears for over ten years and I still have moments when I think my bears aren't good enough. But I can't begin to imagine what my life would be without bears.
Your bears are lovely and if you enjoy making them, why give up? Just do what you enjoy doing and make the most of it!
My girlfriend gave me this little sign which reads:
And that's exactly what I do sometimes...don't even buy anything, but often get inspiration. Maybe all you need is a day out with a good friend!
Keep your chin up kiddo!
Big beary hugs,
I didn't realise you were also posting bears here, I just thought we were to post in the challenge gallery, sorry!
Hugs,
He's lovely Jennie...I know what you mean about preparing for a show!
Keep your nose to the grindstone...I want to see more of your cute little furry critters.
Hugs,
