Dilu

oh sue Ann-I do! to be sure....And th best time is 1 -5 am.....no one poking their head in to see if I'm alive.... .

rule number one-no phone----I have one but it is tucked into the cuboard-so I never hear it ring.  its only for emergencies in my mind.

Dilu

SZ4.jpgSZ11.jpgSZ8.jpgSZ10.jpgSZ6.jpgSZ5.jpgSZ9.jpgSZ1.jpgSZ7.jpgoops....OK  and don't all be aghast at the mess....it is slowly getting corraled and controlled:

1.  The SewsZone  all 650 sq feet of her

2.  the wall of fabric...12 feet long 3.5 feet deep so the bins are double deep

3.  by the washer/dryer overflow slip and molds-also where molded greenware dries  and all the dyes and fabric paints are in the cupboards up above

4.  The first dolls. not good enough to show and my featherweight-

5.  A quilt that needs the braided boarder and  batting and quilting....why is it just hanging there.....she is going to be 108X108......I am till looking for the rest of my quilting gizmo that lets me quilt without having to fold and haul the heavy quilt around under the sewingmachine.....until we find the rest of that I'm not trying to quilt it...thy\ere is just so much one can do......

6.  kiln the small one

7.  The sewing station...Pfaff and Bernina set up to sew at all times
8. more dolls and kimonos

The bathroom is the photography studio-the kitchen island is the cutting station where the scissors and cutters are kept in the drawers ,the cupboards house molds and slip and other odd craft things-like a pint of lavendar and rose oil.....i don't know why, but I must have had an idea.....

The wall opposite of the fabric storage area is shelving and drawers-tools in the drawers and books and mags on the shelves

the closet is mohair hanging and file cabinets with 30 years of patterns-sheesh

the round trash can holds bolts-its new so I haven't piccys.  All the windows have quilts that are put in them with tension rods, especially at night, the insulation keeps the house warmer at night in the winter,  yes they are triple paned...but here's the deal, by keeping the windows covered at night there is less an electric bill so that I can move that money saved to the fabrics to buy isle.  And in my mind that equates to fabric or a new mold

there is a college dorm room fridge by the front door, covered in a quilt so that I could use the fridge space for shelving for the molds and more counter work space.

The kiln is in the stove's  place, and the bench outside the front door is where the dry sanding if greenware takes place-where I use the dremel grinder to make arm and leg holes fit on the bodies

The ast station is an old desk where the greenware is given its fine tuning before getting cooked again- it is also where painting takes place- as the lighting is the best there.

It works

i am lucky to have it.

Dilu

Sandi,

please don't chuck yours in the bin, unless that means here, so we can see your magic!!!....But.i fear it means in the trash,So please don't....you worked too hard on it and the worlds wants to see!!!!!

Much gollybestwishes

dilu

Dilu

Wonderful Sue Ann....i can hardly wait to see the treasures!

Thank you artists for sharing with us here.....

SZ1.jpgWell since i haven't posted piccys and it got brought up again.....

Dilu

mine already has and thats what we are doing now-playing retired: He has his garage....and I have the other...and when we meet in the house its clean, kindasorta, and we are happy to see each other-because we haven't been on each others nerves....

I think it helps if the hubs has something he can obsess about....for us its clunker cars that he fixes up......so its win win.....I'd simply have to shoot him with the ice gun from that silly game at the Wiki site, if he was in my hair all the time....He asks tons of questions, and its hard to be planning sewing concentrating pouring when someone is asking "how come you do it that way"  every 5 minutes.....Does this sound like an engineer or what? bear_wacko

Don't let him retire until he has something he can do so you can have time alone to do what you do.....

i don't think anyone here could function without their alone time.....beats TV!

dilu

hugs everyone-gonna go have some alone time with the Pfaff........

dilu

Dilu

This sounds taky-but:  How about bear giveaways at the children's hospital-and when the stations hear you are going to do this they it they want in on the story and you could say BTW Tomarrow at .......there will be a bear show at.......

Maybe  chinese knockoffs for all but one child who gets your artist bear?

gosh I was impressed with everyones ideas....sorry that its such a hard sell, but i think Judi has a good point.....the only reason the president gets away with saying we aren't in a recession is because they do not count fuel/energy nor food in the recession inflation index.   bear_wacko   If they did we would have been concidered in one months ago.

That doesn't help the lack of enthusiasm, but it might help to understand why.

Which is why you have to get more creative, is that possible???, and come up with a gimmick ,catch, idea that will grabs someone in the media to give you the attention you need.

How about free passes for all the cancer kids that are strong enough to go?

oh dear, this is getting cheesier and cheesier.....sorry

Dilu

I hope that Brenda and Daphne can somehow get their home away from home.....with heat air con and insullation and most importantly a really really good lock and no telephone!  Lock them out and you in and no one calling to say "whats for dinner?"

Although the appropriate answer would be:"I don't know-whatcha fixing?"

Daphne said:

most of us DO cherish our alone time,

I think thats in insight into all our psyches-we wouldn't be so obsessive compulssive about our making stuff if we we were not comfortable with out own company.

Do any of you find company in your aone time distracting, and do you find yourselves not willingly giving up your alone time?

why do I ask?  I have had people want to come over when I am pouring porcelain to see what I am doing.....My mind screams NOWAYYYYYYYY  my mouth says "well, I'll have to call you"

Dilu

After surgery I discovered that mine had installed a dishwasher.....I didn't want to give up the space....I guess he didn't want to do dishes more!  Now i am glad-took 4 years to discover that time is better spent doing something fun.

Jodi how are you are you almost divorced from that bad kitty you are married to?

Neither of us like tv all that much so the remote is lost more than it is argued over.  The odd things I like he doesn't object to-the odd things he likes...I go sew.  bear_grin

Dilu

The scales warn me but don't scare me.....its the mind.....
I try to remind all the Powers-that-Be that a mind is a terrible thing to loose........

I can't tell if THEY are listening, I can't hear them.........

d

Dilu

I agree, don't end it early=you don't know but what this woman is a competing artist and using this as a way to "off" her competition......ok I confess closet conspiracy theorist.....

But on a practical note:  What are you out besides listing fees?   The chances are good this person is looneytoons and not planning on bidding at all-just making trouble.....

good luck on your auction btw.....

dilu

I guess her picking on you is somewhat a complement....but consider she might be doing this to other ebay artists too........

Dilu

From a dear friend in NZ  Thanks Helen!  Sorry the pictures couldn't make it......

THIS IS HAPPENING RIGHT HERE IN OUR OWN  COUNTRY!

We  Must Stop This  Immediately!

Have  you noticed that stairs are  getting steeper .

Groceries are heavier .

And, everything is farther  away

Yesterday I walked to the corner and I was  dumbfounded to discover  how long  our  street had become!

And,  you know, people are less considerate now,  especially the young ones.  They speak  in whispers all  the time!  If you ask them to speak up they  just keep repeating themselves, endlessly  mouthing the same silent  message until  they're red in the face!  What do they  think I am, a lip  reader?

I  also think they are much younger than I was at  the same age.  On the other hand, people my  own age are so  much olderthan  I am. I ran into an old friend the other  day and she has aged so much that she didn't  even recognize me!

I  got to thinking about the poor dear while I was  combing my hair this morning, and in doing so, I  glanced at my  own reflection .  Well, REALLY NOW- even  mirrors are  not made the way they used to  be!

Another  thing, everyone drives  so fast these  days!  You're risking life and limb if you  happen to pull onto the freeway in front of  them.  All I can say is, their brakes must  wear out awfully fast, the way

I see them screech  and swerve in  my rear view mirror.

Clothing  manufacturers  are less  civilized these  days.  Why else would they suddenly start

labeling a size 10 or 12 dress as 18 or 20?

Do they think no one notices? The people  who make bathroom  scales are  pulling the same prank.  Do they think I  actually "believe" the number I see on that  dial?  HA!  I would never let myself  weigh that much!  Just who do these people  think they're fooling?

I'd  like to call up someone in authority to report  what's going on--but  the telephone  company is  in on the conspiracy too: they've printed the  phone books in  such small  type  that no one could ever find a number in  there!

All I can do is  pass along this  warning:

WE  ARE UNDER ATTACK!

Unless  something drastic happens, pretty soon everyone  will have to suffer these awful  indignities.

PLEASE PASS THIS  ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO  WE CAN GET THIS CONSPIRACY  STOPPED!
PS: I am sending  this to you in a larger font size, because  something has happened to my computer's fonts -  they are smaller than they once  were.

Dilu

Daphne, I agree with you about the 1 am thing.....it is lovely to sew nd have the radio on and not have to worry about anyone/thing....enjoy your quiet time.

Dilu

Well, when mom-in-law died 6 months ago I got her house-which is tiny for a house, 600 sq feet, but big enough for a studio.

We both agree this has been a much more pleasant winter; I go a mere 60 feet out the front door to the SewsZone....and while i can't order out pizza because there is no one to make or deliver- I do keep all the goodies he can't have over there now....but lets be real; who really eats chocolate when playing with mohair or quilting fabric?

I think the best thing, besides not being cooped up all winter in the rain, is not having to pick up and put everything away when you aren't done with a project....If I stop half way through cutting out something the only thing I do is close the rotory cutter....It really makes a difference.

And unlike some of our friends here, who are so very organized, I am anything but organized during the heat of a project...

The second best thing is knowing where everything is--no one has borrowed the pliers and then but them where he thinks it is more logical...knowing where every single thing is is a huge time saver-not to mention frustration eliminator.

And being a hermit is vastly underrated-I love it!

So here's to you ladies, hoping all the cats stay away several times this summer so you can play to your hearts content-just be sure to call your play work when you talk to said cats, can't have them suspicious you are having too much fun !

dilu

Dilu

Start with your teaching plan...what do you do first?  Me?  its the fabric that gets me going and from there I design the bear/

Will you be using a commercial pattern or one of yours?

You need to talk about the pattern, how to lay it out the most economical way possible
You need to help them learn how to cut the fabric so that they aren't hacking up the $300 mohair....

what kind of stitching are you going to teach?  Machine or Hand

Do they know how to hand stitch???

what kind of thread
scissors
marking implements?
The shell is done?  What do you stuff with???

how do you stuff??

do you do needle sculpting?

Scissors sculpting

air brushing???

marking pen?

paint?

do you make your own noses???

thread or plastic?

How about eyes???  are you going to enhance the eyes???

now what about the paws
? tail or no?  ears?  how do they sew them on?

now re:  supplies for your class:  are you going to make packets?  supply the supplies?  how will they know what kind of fabric to buy?

I was so excited my first bear that I got online and ordered fabric.....mohair from a fabric store, to line coats with.....needless to say it was all wrong but I still have the bear.

I am sure that others will have ideas for you too

Just relax, start with an outline of what you need to teach, and start figuring out the supply thing....

keep us posted and good luck!

Re: on line classes at Kranbearies;

the proprietor has taken many many classes on line herself, so she knows what works and what doesn't,  the classes at E-Bearz U are self propelled-you download your instructions and if you have questions you log on and write your question and the answers comes back to you usually the same day!  the pictures are integrated into the text and they are small enough that you don't have to fear eating up a couple of color cartridges!  Pretty important to me, how about you?

The site is so easy to use that if you read the instructions and download the pages with your user name and password you shouldn't have any troubles.

I personally think they have great teachers, but in the interest of full disclosure I am friends with some of the teachers.  You will find many people there that you chat with all the time here.

The cost:  its a reasonable cost, I have compared with many other class formats on the web.  The format is much better than the doll offerings on line right now. I have had a whole ream of paper and 2 cartridges eaten up the last timew I took a doll class-I probbaly didn't need to print everything but goodgolly, my brain is a sieve!

If you are serious you should look into it.  You will be learning from some of the biggest artists and best teachers in the industry.
