Judi..I make bears in mohair, alpaca and synthetic fabric..I like working with synthetics the best...though I feel like I am commiting blasphemy for admiting it...I don't much like mohair unless it's straight and very, very  dense!! ( A bit like me, really)

lol, Jenny you make me laugh!  I love synthetic too, tho have really stuck to mohair lately coz of the popularity of it...and its a little easier to work with too  bear_smile  Some of my favourite bears are in synthetic and I personally think that you can't beat the softness of it  bear_innocent  I actually bough a whole 3 1/2 meters of synthetic the other day...for $15 a half meter!  Can't do that with mohair!  And the colours and textures are to die for!!

Hi melissa
Your bunny is adorable. bear_innocent  You work really small too!  Very clever.
Oh I've had the cotter pin slip out too!  So frustrating!  I do everything I can to stop anything like that happening again, but its hard when they are small...you don't want any metal poking through!

Hi Fran
I think you've done a really nice job.  Love the eye lashs too  bear_happy so pretty  :rose:
I like to shade a little under the mouth directly under the nose line...I would shade a little in the ears...just a touch tho in the centre and gently stroke out not too thickly...thats all the advice I can give, think you've done a fab job!
You will have to show us when you finish her

I just ordered a whole heap of special mohair dye.  Will let you know how it all goes when I try it out.  I tried food dye as we don't have kool ade here and it just didn't work through to the backing bear_sad  Good for light shades tho
Thanks for all the great info bear_original

I'm shocked that you don't have thanksgiving in the Uk or Australia. I just assumed it would've been the same in all english speaking countries. Shows you how much I know.
So, in UK and Australia, how many holidays do you have?? I hope you have as many as us, just different ones I guess.
Soo cool to learn about the world this way!
Heather

Hi  Heather...no we are deprived here  bear_sad  No thanksgiving, or halloween (althought a few kids try and do something now...think it has something to do with how much US tv we watch lol) What else do you all celebrate...we just have the normal Xmas, easter, australia day, anzac day...oh the queens birthday lol..and even a  horse racing holiday lol

I love the idea of thanksgiving and just love to watch the US shows with the whole family together....like Judging Amy and all those shows.  So happy and nice

Hi Hayley
oh that is great news!  I really didn't have that whole issue clarified, or didn't understand properly with my head the way it is lol...but wasn't sure on the whole thing...sometimes emails are so much easier aren't they!
I wouldn't want to sell it to another mag anyway...But great that we can sell it on or whatever.
Oh that is wonderful about the profile!  so cool
Glad you are happy now lol
I have to go eat dinner now

Ohhh...how can I choose between chocolate and ice cream lol
I think I would choose chocolate tho...after reading them not too sure on my decision lol
That was fun

Jellybelly Bears

Great news Shelli bear_original  Congrats  bear_thumb
We get both of those magazines late here so will have to wait to see them bear_sad

Jellybelly Bears

Oh Daphne that is terrible!  I'm so sorry to hear about it.  We don't seem to have as many gun problems where I live...it is awful tho.
giving my pooches hugs and will say a prayer

Jellybelly Bears

Okay..back to this ole subject!
I tried the food dye and it works, but the backing fabric comes out white or very lightly of the colour you dye the fur..it is really obvious and doesn't look too great.  bear_ermm  :(
So I've gone and bought a huge pack of mixed dye from a mohair wholesaler.  Should have fun with it!  I hope.  If anyone wants to know where I got it from you can email me...I don't know if I should write it here lol, but it was a great deal at $4 a pack!  cool huh!

We call carbonated drinks "fizzy drinks" (keepin it simple now!!) or by their brand names I guess.  Definitely not soda or pop.  Like the aussies, we tend to call fizzy drinks with ice-cream in "spiders".

Yes yes yes!!!  I'm glad I'm not the only one who says fizzy drinks lol  Once I brought it up in a mixed Aussie and US group and another aussie said that we only call them soft drinks..lol...I know both names, but have always said fizzy drink...or fanta etc

You've made me feel normal again Melissa lol

Sarah,
I've decided to go ahead and do it anyway.I asked advice from a few more well known friends who have been published before and the answer was a resounding "Go for it". Most of them pointed out that you would pay up to $1000 for a full page add in these mags so really we are getting cheap advertising at the very least. It is also a highly respected magazine and one friend who had a pattern featured in this particular magazine 7 years ago, says she still has people contacting her about that project. I guess tjhat's the thing with magazines...people read them and keep them to look through over and over.
I didn't want to appear at all ungrateful..just wanted to try to look at the whole picture before jumping in. I tend to be an impetuos person by nature and am trying hard to break the habit!
Gotta tell you though..I'm very envious of that profile your are getting with ABC! Way to go!

Oh Yay yay yay yay yay!!!!!!!!!!!!     bear_thumb
Yep, never thought of that...people hold on to craft mags don't they!  Cool!
No prob, I know that it is different for everyone and respected your decision whatever it was...like we were talking about, different situations...I don't have kids and am really classified as dissabled (tho I don't like to see myself like that)...I have a carer and don't go anywhere really, so fill my time this way...If I had a family and work etc, I'm sure I would have had to ummm and ahhh way more than you!  lol
take care and keep in touch...it will be fun to discuss :)
And you know...everyone I've asked knows this mag...so we may get more recognition than we expect...fingers crossed!

Sarah! That is SOOOO fantastic! WoW and double WOW! Not only a pattern submission but a profile too! That is such great news and I am thrilled to bits for you! No more dreamin'.....you ain't got time for sleepin'!
And Danni too...wow this is so great! I would love to do a profile in a bears only mag like Australian Bear Creations!

Thanks Hayley :)
Your bears are fabulous so I'm sure you will have magazines knocking down your ...ummm....email?  lol any time soon!  I mean three of us with offers in one weekend..how cool is that!

Over the last 2 days I've been asked to put a bear in to give away in a competition.  So I'm gonna do that too!  Oh you are so right...no time to sleep..don't know where to start!  Luckinly I've been feeling better of late so I don't have a huge deal holding me back.

I would love it if any aussies would look out for the issues I will be in...
11:5  and 11:6 of Bear Creations
And then later on the profile, which I don't know the issue...

Thanks so much again...starting to realise the work of it all now   lol
