Well I was indeed an absolute mess yesterday.  Spent the morning bawling while I was cleaning the field, putting out hay, checking water, etc.  Got myself into a big ole crying session.  bear_cry  I figured better to get it all out of my system than to go to pieces when the people arrived.

Bill and Jeanne we wonderful with me and Lady Bear....very gentle and very keen to listen as I gave them as much history and background as I could on her.  We walked into the pasture so they could see the girls, and Blossom being true to dales pony form came at a spanking trot.  She loves people, and the more they tried to look at Lady Bear, the more she tried to get closer to them.  Poor Jeanne practically had my pony up her nose!   bear_shocked   But at least that told me they were indeed better suited to Lady Bear's personality regarding hugging.  They stood off at a distance just to observe as I talked about her.

I brought her out and tied her up so I could check her feet one last time before she loaded.  We've been in a drought and there's now gravel in the field...I didn't want her shipping with gravel in a hoof.  No problems, no gravel, and it did show them that she knew how to stand tied, and wasn't bad with her feet.  Then I handed her over to Bill to load.  I'm not that experienced to load, and to his credit he did a fantastic job with her.  She wasn't keen on his trailer because it didn't have stall mats down to cushion the noise...so it was very loud, and of course the more she stamped with her feet, the more echoes she created!  Bill stayed very calm, and gave her plenty of room to look and not feel pressured.  Then he very quietly asked her aboard, and calmly got her eased into the front portion of the trailer.  She tapped danced all over and started to get panicky...at which point Blossom started to realize she was being left behind and started to get panicky!  Blossom was trying to force her way through a section of fence that didn't have electric wire running in front of it.  Fortunately the fence held.

So they headed off, and I spent much of the afternoon keeping an eye on Blossom.  I put her halter on in the off chance she'd do a leap out...wanted to have something to hang onto to put her back in should the worst happen!  But she's a dales pony, and after running about and getting sweaty, she decided this was silly and wandered over to eat some hay.  Yep, she did a bit of calling, but I didn't make a notice of it.  I stayed calm and quiet, and kept myself busy trimming low tree branches and installing the electric fencing in front of the section she'd tried to go through.

This morning Lady Bear's new owners emailed me to let me know not only did she settled down and do extremely well for her ride home, but she'd all ready been introduced to the other horses in the herd with nary a problem!  Seems Lady Bear had found her place to hang her "Home Sweet Home" shingle....and I am absolutely thrilled!   That means all of us can now draw our line in the dirt and go forward with life.

This morning Blossom was enjoying having her field, shelter, food, toys and most of all, her Mum all too herself again.  The only time she whinnied today was if she caught sight of hubby or I, other than that she busied herself eating, doing the odd run and tree rubbing....nothing like a tree for a scratch!  Yes, by the end of the week, I'm sure she'll be thinking "Lady Bear who?"  ...if not by tomorrow!

Edited to add, I've changed my user pic under my avatar.  Taken today with Blossom...

How wonderful that Lady Bear has found a great new family & that Blossom has her own space to blossom with you...sounds like all in all...even though always a hard adjustment..mostly for the 2 leggers...all is working out for the best...and I love the new pic under your avatar!!!

Hugs &

Indeed, I do think its harder for two leggers because we dwell to much on it.  Animals are reactive, and try to live moment by moment....day by day.  I think I need to take a page from their book!

The fact she settled in so swiftly and happily really proves to me that I did the right thing with her.  I'm sure she'll go on to enjoy the rest of her life now    And the new owners promise to keep in touch.   bear_happy

Thanks for the lovely comment on my new avatar....Blossom truly is the apple of my eye, love of my life...after hubby of course  bear_laugh

 Thanks gals!!!!      Its actually been a HUGE relief for me knowing that I've picked what could be her perfect forever home.  I've just been so tickled that she waltzed right in and made friends and relaxed that quickly....that alone tells me I made the right choice.

LOL...now to buy more toys for Blossom!  She loves her cuddles, but she's a very 'toy oriented' pony.  If I don't supply her with them, she'll start making them up.... in fact, she all ready has.  Thank heavens her feed bucket is durable and easy to replace  bear_rolleyes

So glad Lady Bear is making a great transition to her new home.  Big hugs for you, Debbie, to help with the missing her part.  I need to ask a question.  My Cairn terrier's ears don't stand up like most Cairns' . . . is that unusual?  His fold over at the top.  I know there are breeds of dogs that get their ears cropped at an early age, but is this true of the Cairn, or do the ears stand up naturally?  Thanks in advance for your dog expertise!
