Inspired by Jodi's collection appearing in Teddy Bear Review, I thought it would be great to see some more people's collections of bears and how you display your collection.
I took this photo of my collection of artist bears last time I cleaned it (a few more bears have appeared in it since then!).
(I'm sure a few of you recognise your own creations amongst my bears!)
So lets have a look at some of your collections!!
Samantha, I am SOOO jealous - you have a 3 o clock bear (if I'm not mistaken), but you have a CHRISTINE PIKE bear!!!! It would be a dream come true to own a bear by Christine Pike.
I can also see a Barbara Ann bear.
I'll post a picture of my 'hug' at the weekend as I have a new display unit (a book shelf unit really!) arriving on Friday!
I know I am very lucky to own lots of the bears in my collection!
I had only just got 'Haydn' by Christine Pike when I took this photo, but he has his own hatbox to stand on now. I have admired Christine's bears for many years, and my husband bought me 'Haydn' for our first wedding anniversary this August (from Party Bears shop in Bath, UK).
My Humble Crumble bears, and my three o'clock bear are also some of my absolute favourites.
My collection includes old bears and artist bears. I enjoy decorating with my bears so my collection is spread throughout the house. Right now the main floor of the house is decorated for Halloween so I've chosen to share a few of those photos as well as one taken just outside my studio door that has quite a few artist bears you may recognize.
Warmest bear hugs,
Aleta
Samantha,I love your Humble Crumble bears-They are number one on my wish list and you are lucky to have three sit there.
Aleta,I love all your bears in the picture with the wee scone panda in it-I would love to start collecting older style artist bears as I love them.I have just bought a wee scone stick bear and I love her.Trouble is I keep spending too much on mohair.I ordered some fur for a panda today and ended up spending £150 on some fur for older bears as I couldn't resist all the lovely colours.
Laurie
Lovely collections ladies...Aleta you always make decorating look so easy. Perhaps I'll work on snapping a photo or two of my ever growing collection...but right now I'm taking break from wrestling with a bear of my own.
LOVE this thread!!!
Here's a few of my pix.... don't want to take up too much room here... so I have more on my Teddy Bear Collecting site: http://teddiesbylauralynn.com/collecting/display.html
GREAT PIX!!!
You all know so well how to decorate!!! I envy you...
Gaby
Laura lynn, I've noticed quite a few of your own bears in your collection - I love them so much and I'd really love to own one some day!
Great bears everyone! Makes my 'hug' look a bit pathetic with the lack of bears!!...
I love seeing others collections and how they display them! Here's a few photos of some of my collection. This time I am showing mostly the ones that are scattered around the house, and one shot from my "doll and bear" room.
In the second photo the bears are on the stairs overlooking my living room. I posed them that way last Chrismas when we were having a party - kind of like the kids couldn't come to the party so were peering over the stairs to see what was going on - either no one noticed or they didn't comment - - of course none of them were bear collectors so probably think I'm nuts anyway!
The third photo is on the landing going upstairs and that is a giant Steiff bear.
Jodi, I'm a big doll collector too - started collecting dolls long before I got into bears. Actually I started making bears to pay for the dolls, but then somehow the bears took over!
Edie, What a great collection. I love your dolls and I've always wanted a big bear like your Steiff for my family room that is decorated in lodge/cabin/fishing type stuff. That's great!
Laura Lynn, I love the way you have your teensy bears around the teapot. So cute. I have that Teddy Bear Encyclopedia too.
Samantha, I love your bear hug and the way you have them displayed and Aleta, that's probably the best bear hug I've ever seen. What a collection and what cool Halloween decorations you have!

Who is that little guy in the arms of the big white bear ?? Wonderful collection
What lovely pictures! I love your displays! My bears aren't currently displayed because I'm on the move soon, but here are a few pics of my old Chilterns ... the off-white bear may be a Farnell, I'm not certain. The guy with the blue ribbon was made for me by Pamela Howells, the lady who originally designed for the Chiltern Toy Co. The other bears are all genuine Chiltern Hugmees, ranging from the 1930's to the 1960's.
Jodi asked: Who is that little guy in the arms of the big white bear ??
The little bear in the arms of the white humble crumble bear is a little crocheted bear by Berta Hesen-Minten (another of my favourites!!), and the little panda sat in the lap of the three o'clock bear is a little panda made by me!
Jodi - your collection is amazing!! Your house must be like a museum!!
Great collections everyone - I love how they are displayed!! Such original ideas!
Your collections are all fantastic !
And thanks so much for this topic Samantha : you save a big part of my bear collection (and of my bears for Ally Pally). The shelve on which sit my bears was going to fall from the wall because the plaster of the wall is not strong enough to bear the shelve... I was moving my bears to turn their head for the pictures when one of the things on which lie the shelve fell down... I managed to maintain the shelve and to put my bears off it.
Thanks !! I won't have seen the problem quickly enough without your topic !
The little shelve next to my work table :
(yes, I do have strange things along with my bears :D)
Abigail
A part of the falling shelve with my Steiff replicas and Dilu's little polar bear on the left.
(my own bears on this pictures are not part of my collection but are just in transit here...)
I have more in my bedroom including my dear red Sunny Bear and two pandas by Penny Noble.
And lots of non-artist soft toys and some early bears I made which I don't know what to make with...
edit : Aleta, may I ask you who made the fantastic black cat with the star around the neck ? I'm in love ! (it seems I'm very attracted by cats at this time
)
Hugs friends !
Ellen ,
Jodi,
Here are the close-up pictures of the bears you wanted to see:
This is the little panda which I made:
This is my little crocheted bear by Berta Hesen-Minten. He is completely wobble-jointed, so it lovely to hold.
and a couple more pics of some more of my collection:
Ellen, like you I prefer artist bears, although I do have a couple of old bears, including my treasured 1906 Steiff that my husband bought me as my wedding present. I also have an extensive collection of my own bears, spanning back to when I was about 10!! I could never afford the bears I wanted with my pocket money back then, so I made bears for myself to keep. I carried this on whilst I was at school, and when I was at university, and after graduating and starting work a couple of years ago, my collection grew very quickly!! I still make myself bears to keep - being miniatures I think I can get away with this, as they fit into a cabinet very easily.
By the way Jodi, although I trade as Mary Myrtle Miniatures, my name is actually Samantha Potter!! Mary Myrtle was my great-grandmother's name. When my Mum started selling her miniature dolls about 15 years ago (when I was still a child), she chose a business name which could include anyone in the family, with the hope that I could one day join her, so we now both trade under Mary Myrtle Miniatures! It has also included my Aunt, who designs and knits beautiful miniature clothes for my Mum's miniature dolls, and now my Dad, who has finally joined-in, and makes dollshouse furniture!! It a bit of a family affair!
Gemma oh thank you so much! I'm very honored!!
I actually have a few of my own in my collection right now because I'm getting ready for Schaumburg
Oh Lisa! Don't worry.... you'll have plenty of time to display your bears AFTER the 'tritods' are older... and you'll wonder where that time went !
Patty thank you! I found that teapot this year at a store and knew IMMEDIATELY what I was going to do with it :)
OH ELLEN!!! You may be a "minimalist" but your display is wonderful! And I spied 2 wee Gilmur Rudley bears there too! I LOVE her bears.... and one of these days...
After the Schaumburg show... I'll be PMing some of you to see if you'd mind if I used a photo or two posted here in my "decorating" page of the TeddyBearCollecting.com website. I figure if people get more ideas of how to use their bears in their decorating... they may end up adopting more bears!

Ok Samantha I didn't know that, how wonderful to have such history to your company.
And your panda is so cute
I love pandas !!!! And I like the other also. I see you like old style bears. Thats my favorite also. I should take a picture of those too. They are every where !!! I for get till I see more.
Laura I have toby in a china Tea set I bought at an antigue auction.
Looking at everyone's collections is great!! I love it!
Look at all the wonderful bears we surround ourselves with. It makes me smile......BIG! I look forward to seeing more!
Edie,
You're so clever to put your bears on the stairs that way!! Great idea!! I can't imagine why your guests wouldn't make a lovely comment about them displayed that way. What a shame. I would have noticed right off and been the first to gush over how you displayed them.
Warmest bear hugs,
Aleta
I'll have to get some pictures of my collection tomorrow. I'm looking at all of these amazing displays in baskets on the floor, going up staircases, and on hat boxes rising from the floors and the only thing I can think is......(sigh) "I wish I could do that too.... BUT i have dogs!!"
My small artist bear collection is way up high in an antique hoosier.
This is just a silly store bought bunny someone got me one easter...it was happily slumped on little chair in the studio until a beast of a puppy got a hold of it and slobbered it up! No cute living room coffee table displays for my poor bears
