I don't like the new way either. I don't understand how scammers/fake second chance offers are made to the non-winning bidders. Sure, they can see the who the non-winning bidders are, BUT how the heck do they get the contact info? That's where ebay should focus their attention. Keeping scammers from getting the folks email addresses.

Once more with gusto, again from an Advisory perspective.

For the record, I don't see any defamation going on here and I don't think anyone who has posted to this point is on the attack.   I think most everyone is handling this discussion admirably and with the utmost respect for differing opinions.  There is no trespass here that I can see.  Thanks to all, for that.

Please be careful not to personalize comments which are not, in fact, personal at all.  This is a discussion of policies and generalities, not one of individual practices and artists.  No one is being endicted here, therefore, no one needs defending.

And several times, I have seen those same bears come back onto Ebay some months or even a year later and they make a fraction of what they originally sold for.

Many collectors attempt to sell items they'd previously urchaesd. It shows that almost no one is doing their homework: except for a VERY very few bears, there is NO secondary market!!!

My only comment on this subject is as a victim. I have been bid aGAINST BY A SHILL BIDDER. iT BECAME OBVIOUS TO ME WHEN I bid the max amount I wanted to pay, then another bidder was bidding over and over to increase my bids on the same seller's 3 different auctions. At first it might look like, well I bid on all 3, so why wouldn't someone else. . What became obvious is when they finally bid over my max amount and became the high bidder in 2 of the auctions, then retracted thier bid. So I investigated and found this person (with a feedback of 2) was registered from the same town as the seller and the only auctions they had ever bid on had been the sellers except for 2 which were $1 items and all of this was done within 2 weeks time.  So yes, I turned this bidder as well as the seller in to ebay. What hurt was that I really wanted the item they were offering and now they no longer have what would have been a good customer.

Well I for one think shill bidding is just plain wrong...but I didn't know that friends couldn't bid on your auction if they actually wanted to win it...I always thought that shill bidding involved bidding on something to artificially inflate the price while having no intention of purchasing the item.....If a collector becomes a friend and still continues to bid on and buy your bears I certainly don't think that should constitute shill bidding...but does it?

My husband and I purchase items from other areas of ebay through people we have become friends with due to the process of buying from them regularly...surely we are not breaking the rules... :/

I am now officially confused (not that it takes much).. bear_wacko

I don't care for the new implemented system at all.  I'd prefer to have my auction open for all to view.  I would, however, like to get the view point of the collectors on this new system.

Warmest bear hugs,

Bobbie Tell me about it, one of my very first bears , some lady resold it , she didn't take very good pictures of it, you could hardly see it , I cringed when I saw it and it tanked, I felt really bad it didn't do better for her, now I tell bidders that I completely understand that if they do want to sell it, please email me and I will send a disk with good pictures on it.
I am so glad I am not the only one who hates the new system

I hate the new system too....but as I have yet to have a bear reach the magic $200 mark I haven't had to worry about it yet!!  bear_grin   I am just eternally nosy and love to see the names of the people who can afford such high prices in the hopes of one day seeing one of those same names on one of my bears!!!

What an awesome idea Lisa, I guess you could just copy and paste into an eBay message the bidders list?

It seems a shame that ebay don't do their investigation before thay suspend people rather than the other way around...whatever happened to "innocent until proven guilty"

Unfortunately in the world we live in there are way too many people who would be willing to 'dob' someone in just because they are jealous and if ebay investigated first and then suspended perhaps it would stop innocent people being affected as much...after all 'mud sticks'

I agree that shill bidding is absolutely wrong. Period.

Bidding by relatives, if they are bidding with the intent to buy is NOT shill bidding. I guess I can see why ebay has implemented this rule but I don't agree with it. My relatives don't have information on my bears that the general public doesn't have, certainly no "inside information" on my bears. I can't even think what that information might be (?!) or why it would affect the auction? It's not like we're trading stocks here.

So far I haven't had a bear reach $200 but I hate the idea of being forced to use what amounts to a private auctions whether I like it or not. In my personal opinion, I don't think it was a good move on ebay's part. It may be a bandaide for one problem but promotes other problems.

Still, in spite of it's problems, I will continue to use ebay for the wide audience it has. BUT I think Bid for Bears is a great alternative to the ebay monster and I'm going to do my best to have a least a couple creations to put up during the upcoming promotion. I would really like to see B4B do well!

The problem with ebay is that very often you can end up getting bad press when it isn't your fault and there is nothing you can do. Despite an exemplary sellers record I complained about an item I received from another seller after placing the winning bid and  despite my appeal being upheld by eBay and paypal ..she left me negative feedback harming my feedback. As far as shill bidding goes I think that the damage is done by people who don't play fair ..so maybe ebay should have a system of feedback for transgession of rules...a bit like a yellow card  for a warning and a red card if you are a regular rule breaker..because shouldn't buyers know who they are buying from...feedback is not enough...if you've been suspended or ticked off for bad practice shouldn't it be noted on your profile for a period of time. That way those who genuinely get good prices for their sales would not be viewed with suspicion.

I don't participate on ebay, but my opinion is that shill bidding is definitely a big NO NO!!  Now posting as a HA . . .
warning #2.  There is absolutely no need to get snippy with one another on this subject or call into question anyone's opinion.  If two or more parties don't agree, okay, but please refrain from posting messages that could get your post deleted.  Thank you all for observing our new rules.

Chrissi, you asked if there were forums to find out if other people are unhappy with eBay's new system.  Absolutely.   Click on "Community" at the top of eBay's main page, then "Discussion Boards".  Many members are NOT happy campers.  Check out the "Bidders" board as well, where there is a topic with over 3000 responses titled "POST HERE IF YOU HATE NEW ANONYMOUS BIDDER SYSTEM", and another topic calling for a boycott of eBay for the month of February (yes, there are people doing this).

Oh... and I'm not keen on the new system either  bear_original

Hi Sue Ann
Question, when you have a thread like this , and I love the input , I am glad to know I am not the only one that hates shill bidders and ebays new system, OK back to the question, if someone in a thread gets personal does the thread get removed or does the person making the personal attack get removed?
By the way I love Channing

All MY feedback is and always has been open to look at, except the two private auctions I had when I was seeing how that worked as many artists do use this feature,

On one's Feedback page, Private Auctions hide only the item # and the final bid.
The Buyer's ID is posted, but no link to what item was purchased.

Thx Jodi - Me too!

now I tell bidders that I completely understand that if they do want to sell it, please email me and I will send a disk with good pictures on it.

If it's been taken care of, I want it to look as good as the day it left my hands.

Oh and another thing I hate, is when you go to get your drivers license re-newed and the person asks you if all the info on it is still the same, you say yes and then they look at it and linger on the weight part, OK so I have not changed it since I was in high school and weighed 100 lbs, and yes my weight has got up a little, OK OK A LOT, the sad thing is if I ever get in a wreck they will look at the ID and go "boy there must be someone else hurt because this ID is for a little bit of a thing, I don't know who this fat whale is that's hurt" Ok I decided I didn't want to go nameless, I reluctantly told her "Oh yeah my weight has changed,.......I weigh 101 .  bear_whistle
