We are in for a whopper of a winter storm this weekend, starting tonight and going through Sunday. The forecast is for freezing rain first (up to 1/2" ) and then up to 12" of snow to top it off. Yikes!!!
We've had it rather easy all winter, and just might be making up for that now. I've got extra bottled water stowed away (the well runs on electricity) and the oil lanterns ready to go in case the power goes out .......plus firewood ready for the fireplace. But.......I'm actually looking forward to being snowed in!!
Lots of uninterrupted bear making time!!
We got hit with it yesterday or last night I should say. It started with rain which froze then snowing sideways. My poor daughter was trying to get to church for youth group when it hit, I called her to come home and she slid of the road and hit a concrete abutement and wrecked her car. Really glad that just the car was hurt, So I got to walk the half mile home and we dragged her car back. She was really shook up. We are supposed to get more snow tonight. We got about 10 inches last night in about 2 hours. It just dumped it. We are suposed to get more snow until next Tuesday.
We are suppose to get rain and snow this evening into tomorrow! burrrrrrrrrrr Our old snow is just now melting.
OMG Kathy......Thank goodness your daughter is okay!! And no wonder she was shook up......that is so scary!! Big hugs to her, and to Mom too!
10 inches in 2 hours?!! Wow.......you really did get dumped on! I am hoping we get more of the snow rather than the freezing rain. The ice is so dangerous.
Tami, I was typing the same time as you! So you're waiting for it too, huh? Our snow was melting away as well, and it's felt like Spring the past few days. Guess we have to pay for that now!
Oh I know, it was so pretty here for the last few days!!! Made you think there was some hope! LOL
Tami, Spring has to come eventually, so there is hope........I just wish it would hurry up!
Hi All,
We had a taste of Spring earlier this week too. We are expecting 8-18 inches depending how the storm tracks. Oh well, comes with living in Wisconsin I guess. Good weekend for making peanut butter cookies & BEARS!

Kathy, I am glad to hear your daughter was not hurt. We were hit with the storm last night with rain, ice and snoe. When going home from work I came up on an accident with many cars involved. Very icy conditions.
Tracy: I live north of you in Minnesota (Minneapolis area). Our weatherman is calling this the biggest storm since '98 to hit us. He said we are in the "bull’s-eye" of this storm....What does this mean? I don't know? I moved here from Florida for goodness sake. I've been quit proud of how I handled snow and cold up until this point only for people to snicker and say "you really haven’t been through a true Minnesota winter have you?" But after the first year here, slipping and sliding around and scared out of my mind, I took the bull by the horns and bought an SUV. I have not fishtailed or slipped in three years!! So I guess I'm ready!
Seriously though, I did go shopping this morning to hunker down for the weekend. But I am now facing going into work this weekend. I have people already thinking they will not be making it in for their shifts. Rats! Double Rats!!! So, since my unit is 24/7 and I am a manager, guess who will need to slush through that mess to work....I'm waiting for my pager to go off....It is really a matter of time....
Stay safe Tracy.
Kathy I am glad your daughter is o.k.
We got it first, and it was really wet heavy snow---the kind that takes out power and causes fear and trepidation when turning on the computer.....
But it was perfect sewing weather
I am sorry yours is hitting on the weekend.....good luck....stay warm.....

PS I actually have pictures after the melting took place yesterday:
Dilu, the snow is so pretty on the trees like that! Pretty to look at anyway, even if it's probably a pain otherwise.
Love the pics!! I will try to take some once we get our winter type stuff.........and will post them as long as I have electricity to do it!
Michelle--If you're in the bull's-eye, then you are going to get walloped!! Probably lots and lots of Minnesota snow. We used to have winters like that every year, but now they are further and farther between. Last one was in 2000, when it was just one blizzard after another. I really didn't like that winter! Anyway, sounds like you're ready for a big snowfall.......you've had practice driving in the stuff and you've got your SUV.
Take care if you do have to go out in it this weekend.......and I truly hope you don't need to!
We are stocked up and ready to be stuck in at home all weekend. Have no reason to go anywhere, so we'll be safe and warm. The storm still isn't here yet, but according to the weather man we should wake up to ice in the morning. Ugh! Praying the power lines hold up!
We got our firt wave over night. Looks like only 3-4 inches of new snow right now. From the weather on tv we are going to really get blizzard conditions by 6 & continue through tomorrow and they are talking about a thunder-snowstorm. We are going to hit the grocery store after my husband gets back from work at noon. We have the most wonderful neighbor who owns a snow plow business & plows us out on his way home. We ususally make a big Nesco full of soup so his guys have something warm to come in to when they come in his office.
Stay warm everyone!
Amy
Ps Dilu your picuteres look beautiful!
we're still digging out from the storm we got around Valentines day! supposed to have some more today but nothing serious..hang in their ladies spring is coming! even here in Vt we have spring birds arriving early.. of course maybe they are sneaking out of your neighborhoods!
I just checked our weather. We are under an Ice Storm Warning. We are expecting power outages and downed trees. I just came in from bedding the horses down to ride this thing out. I want spring already.
Beautiful pictures the snow looks so lovely , good luck to all and stay warm and safe.
Warmest bear hugs
Carolyn

Wow! Lots of us are getting the nasty winter type stuff! We've been getting freezing rain/ice all day today.....woke up to it this morning just as the weather man said. Hate it when he's right about things like that!
We haven't gotten as much as they said we would though, for which I am very thankful. I hate the ice too!! Now it is changing over to snow. I'm not sure how much we're supposed to get now.....they do change the totals quite often and I missed the weather earlier.
Amy, lucky you to have a neighbor to plow you out like that!! Is it 'blizzarding' there yet? If we do get the heavy snow, it will be this way here too with the wind we're having. Not fun!!
I'll be thinking of you Ohio gals........stay safe and warm!!  Snow is better than ice any day!! Keeping my fingers crossed it isn't as bad as forecast.
Jodi--Thanks about Woodrow! I will have to post pics of the little guy you gave to me too.........I just love him!!
He's still hanging out here by the computer and keeping me company.
And I will sure pass that hug on to Grandma when I see her.  It will be a couple of days now because of the weather. Mom has kept in contact with the hospital and Grandma herself though, and she is doing very well. Won't be discharged as soon as she hoped, and will most likely have to go to the nursing home for a short while as well then. She needs to be able to get around well enough to be safe when she does go home, so she's okay with the nursing home possibility.
Hi All,
It is 9:30 pm & I am just signing off for the night. It has gotten really nasty out there in the past hour or so. We can BEARLY see the road. Yes Tracy, we are very lucky to have such a wonderful neighbor. We made a huge batch of Sloppy Joes & took it over to their house/office today. It was really quiet because they were trying to get some sleep. The office door was open so we let ourselves in to suprise them with the sloppy joes. Hopefully that will keep them & their crew going for the long night ahead.
Well, sleep warm everyone!

Hello Teddy Bear Friends: Well Minnesota got a good dose of snow. The southwest metro where I live got 10 inches so far. one to three more inches today. Not nearly as much as predicted. Some parts east of us and into Wisconsin got really hit hard.
But to make matters worse, there is about 1/2 inch of ice under all that snow. Saturday morning, I could have ice skated on my driveway....Thankfully I did not have to go into work. Most of my staff stayed at a hotel two blocks from work so they could make it back for their shift and not drive in hazardous road conditions. My company paid for the rooms so all is well.
I spent this snowy weekend experimenting with my recipes that I'm entering in the Pillsbury Bake Off contest. I have been eating sugar for two days now....Naturally, my ideas are of the sweet nature....
So dear friends I can gather a bunch of us had an interesting weekend. Glad everybody faired well with the storm.
Weeeeee!!!!!!!!!!! Our power is back on!!! We've been without for the past 8 hours, but are really very lucky as there are people east and north of us who won't have it back on until tomorrow or even the day after. Also had a tree come down, but it's out by the pasture, so no immediate problems there. Found out that we did manage to get our house well insulated.......the temp inside dropped only 8* during all that time. I did finally start the fireplace about an hour ago as well. Glad we have that too!!
The worst part of no power for us is really the well not running. It's awful to have no running water!! I filled up the big clawfoot tub with water last night, so we had that to flush toilets. And we have bottled drinking water we keep on hand. It's just a pain, really!
Maybe we should look into getting a generator to at least run the well? Might be worth the $$!!
Anyway, we're all fine.....snug and safe in the house. It's still snowing and blowing, but it supposed to at least stop snowing this evening. There will still be blowing and drifting snow into tomorrow though, so probably no school..........that won't bother the boys one bit, I'm sure!!
Glad you Ohio gals have already thawed out!!  And great news as well that Michelle didn't have to go out......I'm glad you were able to stay home and safe!!
BLEECH! It is snowing here now.... gosh, can't wait to go to Florida (less than a week)
Kim, you might want to leave room in the trunk for me after all!! I think I could suffer it now just to get to sunny and warm Florida!!
