o.k. I know I am behind the times here Teddy Bear Friends but I am now catching up (with your help). I just heard about Etsy. I know, I know ---I hang my head in shame ---but it looks like it is a site for crafters.

So my questions are:
1) What is Etsy?
2) Is it something I can sign up for with Pay Pal? If not pay pal, how do you buy items?
3) It looks like there are classes? Anybody have any experience with them?
4) If I buy items, is it a secure site?
5) What has been your experience with it?

Thank you

Etsy is an online shop-type site where you can only sell handmade or vintage goods bear_original  You can use paypal both to buy and sell. I've had some really nice bits and bobs from there, Michelle bear_original  had a shop too but I might sign up for a new one so it'll have my name on it rather than 'gantaeno', which I prefer to only use as a username bear_tongue  I have to say, I've never had any problems bear_original

Hi Michelle,
I opened a store in the late fall, but haven't sold anything yet.  I find it hard to keep things on Ebay, and Etsy, and I was doing shows at BAO.  I've just decided to add some more things in the next week or so.
Yes, Paypal is used for buying and selling - I've only heard positive things about it,  no negative things yet.  I do know that I've been browsing a lot more there in my favourite categories and I see TONS of sellers that I recognize from Ebay.  Martha Stewart did a spot on it, and the membership has risen as a result.  The word is definitely spreading.  Good luck if you decide to join.

                                            hugs,

                                            Brenda

Michelle, here's the link to a thread about this same subject.  Maybe you can find some info there.

I love etsy! It was featured in the local paper last week. I think I will do all my gift shopping there from now on. All handmade items. I found some really cute Japanese fabric there too. I also have a shop and have sold 4 critters in the last month. I am actually doing better there than on ebay.

Michelle,
You can use the same Paypal account to receive money on Etsy or your website etc, just like you can use it to buy things that are not on Ebay. Hope I'm not confusing you.

                                    hugs,

                                    Brenda

Thank you Brenda. I just want to buy things and did not know if pay pal was exclusive to e-bay or is it independent and can be used anywhere. From what you are saying, pay pal can be used anywhere.
