If you don't get enough "bear" time with these two girls (along with Ted, Honey, and Lucky), here's another place to spend your hours. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=1 … 064&v=wall This sanctuary is located not too far from me and I plan to volunteer my services . . . if they can use a slightly worn 69 year old. They just acquired a baby black bear from Alaska and he looks a lot like Hope did at that age. The videos are precious. Have fun.
Thanks for the link, oh lucky you!
This is a link to the organization itself. http://www.bigcat.org/ They have several cinnamon colored black bears that are just gorgeous. The bears live at the "Bear Orphanage" section of the facility and have 2 five acre enclosures to roam and play. A heads-up: these bears won't be returned to the wild - they have a lot of human contact and have come to the sanctuary as orphaned cubs.
Thanks for posting these links, Sue Ann.........looks like a really tremendous place! I'd envy you just visiting there - but getting to be a volunteer - wow! Lucky you!

Thanks for posting this. Darling little bear!
Thanx for posting, when you volunteer, what will you be doing? take pictures and share with us. Love that sweet baby bear from Alaska, really I love all the bears in the articles.
thanx again
Hugs Pat
If I get selected as a volunteer, Pat, you can be sure I'll take photos. They are pretty choosey about who they want working around the animals. I have filled out a 4 page form asking for all sorts of information and I have to provide 3 references. Then if I get past that, I will be interviewed . . . it's like I'm applying for a job! Well, I guess I am. Will let you know how it goes.
What wonderful video's and pictures of the bear cub. He is so adorable, trying to climb the tree.
I wish I had $ 15.000 to sponsor him, so I could name him.
I have to provide 3 references.
I will provide a reference for you SueAnn, if you think it will carry any weight.
I have a lot of experience looking after bears .... well, teddy bears !
Thanks for sharing that with us and good luck with the job application and the interview !
Hugs,
Peter & the bears
Awww, Peter, how nice of you to offer.   I've got my 3 references and am ready to send in the application.
As much as I adore Hope/Lily, the NABC, the tireless researchers, all the other bears, etc., I think my blood pressure will remain more stable knowing that the bears/cats at this facility will never be in danger. I was a total mess when Lily left Hope twice and Hope was missing . . . and she's still at risk. Maybe if I do get chosen to be a volunteer, I can suggest a 24/7 den camera.
Haven't had a response to my application yet.
I just may be too old for what they need done.
But, I will visit often and take my camera. I discovered this video on UTube. It features Scamp, a resident black bear at the sanctuary playing with his food. Just can't wrap my head around anyone who would want to hunt/shoot a being that can be silly, cute, and playful as this.
He does get around to eating a few of those grapes.
What a lovely fellow.
Becky
Thanks for posting this! That little bear cub is adorable! And they have such great pictures of him on their web site. Hope you do get to volunteer!
There is a sanctuary nearby to me that I want to visit soon.

Tthanks for the video, Sue Ann.........he's just adorable, and looks - well - rather a hedonist, the way he's eating those grapes. I so agree with you - HOW can anyone shoot one of these beautiful creatures? I HOPE(!) you do get accepted as a volunteer.........
big huggies
