Hey all you mom's or just crafty folk- well I guess that means everyone on TT doesn't it !!

I saw this neat,  easy , no mess ( that's the best part ) way to dye eggs with old silk ties. My 9 yr. old and I found a bunch of silk ties at a thrift store yesterday for $1 each and ran home to try this.  It really works and is so easy to do with the kids.  We did discover that the darker ties work best as the colors show up muted.  The designs really transfer to the egg.

Here are our samples.  (Notice a few holes- thanks to our cat who decided to investigate the eggs !!!!  )

Here is a link to a video by Martha Stewart showing exactly how it's done.

All you need is silk ties
pieces of white cotton
eggs- whole or blown out
vinegar
water
twist ties or elastics etc.
Glass or enamel bowl or pot- Not metal !

1) Cut a piece of the tie and wrap around egg any way you want .
2) Cut a piece of whote cotton and wrap over the egg.
3) Secure the fabric with a twist tie or elastic
4) Place in boiling water with 1/4 cup vinegar or more (You need to use a glass or enamel pot- no metal due to a reaction with vinegar.   ( I just boiled the water in the microwave in a glass bowl them let the eggs sit 20 minutes)
5) reduce temp and simmer 20 minutes
6) Let cool and remove the fabric -Voila fancy eggs !!!!

Have Fun !!!

Very nice way to dye eggs . . . leave it to Martha Stewart to come up with something so 'crafty'!  Thanks for sharing!
