I found this nasty, nasty bug in an old coal bucket outside my front door this morning. This isn't a pic of my actual bug (we named him Fred
), but I found this pic on the net. I had no idea what it was, so we had to do some searching. I swear I've never seen a bigger, uglier bug in my life!! They are called giant water bugs, with some variation to the name whereever they are found, and I guess they are found all over the world. This is the largest true bug in North America, and they do have a painful bite.
Glad I didn't give the little monster a chance to bite me!
We carefully got Fred out of the coal bucket so he could fly away. Bye Fred.....please don't visit again soon!
PS--the warning in the subject line is for you Daphne!!
Aighhhhh.... Tracy your bug encounters are freakin' me out!!! I would wear a bee keepers suit upon exiting the house just to be sure the coast was clear for the day!
(oh my gosh it FLIES too?? I think bugs like that should have one freak out option...either fly or have 2 foot long pinchers, they just shouldn't get both! )

My boys were with their dad this weekend, so they missed this one. Darn! Zach would have loved it!!
I forgot to say in my original post that another common name for these is Toe Biters. For obvious reasons. Anyone have a pool? They like to hang out there!

I'll happily ship any wayward 'Toe biters' to your boys, then if then show up here. Afterall, I can't deprive any boy of an opportunity like this

Ha ha Debbie!! Could you imagine opening a package to find some of these BIG ole bugs!!
Can you imagine the wrangling that would have to go on just to shut the box????
Methinks the fridge first to tame the ugly beast....then tape it up securely and pop it into the mail before it comes to
Seee??? I have a plan all ready  that is...if I don't outright mush it first!
   I think the
might be necessary with this one!! What happens though when it does thaw out? It would be like super-sized Mexican jumping beans all over the postal service!!  You would have to ship it with an ice pack ...............
 .....do you think we'd get a postal ban if we did ship something like that?
  I think it's possible Debbie!! There would be "some splaining to do, Lucy"!
