Today I had a wonderful respite from my show planning...... I met our very own Sabine (Member Id: acipencer) at the University of NH, USA today where she is here for a scientific convention, all the way from Sweden! We went to Portsmouth, NH... on the ocean, hence 'Port'... and wandered Market Street...... an interesting area of eclectic shops and cafes.

We stopped in to the Portsmouth Fabric Company.... yup, a fabric store!!! We discussed the "need vs. want" theory the whole way there. "Want" won in the end as we both left with parcels of fabric!

Sabine made me the most adorable crocheted bear "Kilian"..... here is a picture of Sabine holding him...

Now, you'll be as mad as I was when I tell you that my camera battery died before I could take any more pictures!!! She took a couple of photos with her camera and perhaps will post them when she gets home in a week or so, so stay tuned for part 2!  :photo:

Sabine was such fun to window shop with and chat with. She is such a wonderful and gentle person! I enjoyed my morning with her emensly!!!

Thanks, TT, for connecting us!!!

What a cool story.  From Sweden to New Hampshire and beyond.  This is why the internet is NOT crap.  It brings people together in real ways.  And sometimes, you get wee darling teddy bears as a result!

Sabine, hope you post your photos when you return.

Oh, you lucky girls!

I am happy you had such a great time together.

It is so nice to find opportunities to meet each other.

For sure, when i am able to afford traveling, you'll find me everywhere when TTers and CCers live or almost!  bear_tongue

Beary hugs,
Sophie.

My hubby and I wouldn't have gotten together w/o the internet!!! We lived in the same apartment building for a while but never met because he was on a job assignment out of state. Then I moved away and he returned from his job assignment and my neighbor told him all about me. He finally got up the nerve to email me..... we emailed for months before we met, then 6 more months before we met again. The rest is history!  bear_wub

Daphne and Sabine that is so wonderful that you were able to meet.  How cool is that , being from different parts of the Globe.  That little bear looks like a real cutie too.

my mom and my sister have met their husbands on-line.
I used to think it was creepy meeting someone off the internet, but it's totally practical. Now I'm always telling single people to go on-line. Sure beats singles clubs or whatever.
I bet there are tonnes of stories like this.

Hi everybody!
I'm home and I see Daphne posted her pic. I didn't bring my little digital camera, but my larger SLR. The disadvantage of that is that I have film rolls, which are just now at the lab to be developed. I'm having them put on CD too, so in about 4-5 days I will be able to post the pics I took (press thumbs they turned out ok). I'll start a thread for part 2 then. It was really wonderful meeting Daphne, who is the kindest person imaginable. Tell you more in a few days with pics.

Thank you sooo much Daphne!!!

g100.gif Firstly, I think you are quite lucky to have met Sabine, Daphne.

Secondly, I believe an argument could be made that with ingenuity we could all turn wants into needs.  Especially when it comes to supplies.....

Remember my photo trick? Taking pictures in the fridge under that bright light! For some reason it didn't come out as bright this time around. But anyway...

Here is Kilian.... sitting on his 'pillow' on top of the parmesan cheese container.

He stands 3 1/4 inches tall.
Isn't he cute????

While we are waiting for my film rolls to be developed I was able to take a digital picture of the amazing little bear that sweet Daphne gave me in exchange for Kilian. I really didn't mean for that to happen, but how do you give a bear to a bear artist without prompting a return gift? It turned into a swap then and I am soooo very very happy to have him. I named him Pete since he didn't have a name. Daphne, is that ok with you? He told me his name right after we parted, the little rascal  bear_tongue I also got a copy of the current TB & F with the article on TT. I wouldn't have had an opportunity of buying it myself and it was such a thoughtful gift. Thank you again Daphne!

Pete is a perfect name!
He was the third felted bear I ever made. I'd wanted to make a bear especially for Sabine but with my life the way it's been I haven't had time to make anything new. So, I brought a bunch of my old bears, at her request, for show and tell. Pete was amongst them and she really seemed to like his expression. He's very close to the same color as my Kilian and was the one I'd wanted to give her, if she liked him, so it all worked out perfectly! Besides, she could get him on the airplane with out a problem as he had no joints!! :)

I'm glad he has a new home!!!! :)
