Moose-facing-camera.jpgMoose-on-street-in-Anchorage.jpgAlaska-roadsides.jpgAnchorage-downtown-decoration.jpgAnchorage-from-hillside.jpgThanks for the responses to day 1 . . . the trip does get more exciting.  Pic 1 is the Anchorage skyline from a hillside out of town.  As you can see, the weather was cloudy and misty . . . as were all the days there.  Our hosts said that the sun shines more in the winter.  The temperatures were mostly in the 60s (F) with a couple of days in the high 50s.  Wet and cool - just the opposite of Texas.  The weather may have been a little off, but the flowers were spectacular.  Pic 2 is a normal downtown decoration - flowers everywhere and baskets hanging from every streetlight post.  Pic 3 is the average roadside decor - lots of fireweed (the purple-ish flower) and sumac (berry bushes).  Pics 4 and 5 show a mama moose with her baby.  These sweeties were just on the side of a street having lunch in Anchorage . . . a very normal happening.  One day while we were there, a bear was reported walking down the street in a residential area.  Stay tuned for more adventures.

How exciting Sue Ann!!!   Isn't it funny what we take for granted...Alaska has moose along side the road...bear walking down the street and I think it's so COOL.  And then our friends down under with the kangaroo and koala...again so very cool.  Then there is me with my family of skunks (who have moved on...thank the lord) and a friendly little deer who eats the apple tree and lays in the backyard every night.

Aww............can hardly wait to see more of your adventure.

Sue Ann I LOVE your photos! It's funny really, because so often I think of Alaska as being so cold and white but it is one of the most beautiful and colorful places in the country.  WOW!  I LOVE the moose pictures.  What an exciting trip you had! bear_flower

Sue Anne it gives a whole diffrent look to what I would have expected ... I didn't expect all the green and the flowers ... and to see moose on the side of the road I thought that was just in movies  bear_laugh  bear_laugh ..wow. Thank you, looking forward to day 3.

Thank you for posting these beautiful photos of Alaska Sue Ann.  Living on the other side of the world, it is a great education for me.  I never knew Alaska was so green.

Great pictures Sue Ann. I was wondering if there would be more for us to see when I was boosting up my computer today. What a different sight than I expected Alaska to be. It looks so cosy and colourful. The flowers are unexpected! As for the Mummy Moose and her baby, whoa, awesome! how cool is that to see them just there possing for pictures. What is Anchorage like? I would love to know. So different to where I live...don't we live on an amazing world!

Sue Ann

How cool!  Those wildflowers are so beautiful - very different to where I live...well I guess very different to where most of us live!

Moose are one of my absolute favourite animals - they are so ungainly but so cool.  How neat that you got to see one up close.  I have wanted to see a moose since I was five, so I am more than a little green with envy!

Hi Sue Ann,

great pics. We have a lot of moose here in Sweden, but they rarely venture out in the open like that. Thanks for sharing.
