If I did a bear without my normal K Pawz nose???? I am making a bear right now out of gorgeous tipped alpaca, I have just inserted doll eyes with big bushy eyelids and I don't think that a normal K Pawz nose would do him justice, I was thinking that he needed a simple black varnished nose...of course I would do his other accents in color, I think? suggestions here as well please, thinking purple because his eyes are lavender....HELP!!!! I will go and take a picture so far, and then wait for some advice patiently.
Thanks guys,
Hugs,
Krista
okay so here are pictures, they suck but you should be able to get the idea
I say go ahead and do something different. I am working on a bear right now that is very different than my usual antique style bears. This one will be soft and furry (I hope). I just wanted to do something unusual for me. I wanted to get out of the groove. After he is finished I will probably get back in the same groove.
I would say go ahead. It is really refreshing to occasionally try something a bit different - a slightly different design may even attract some new collectors. Go with what your creative eye tells you would look best!!
Look forward to seeing the final result!!

I think the kind of nose you are considering would look great!
You could also do a K Pawz nose... just in browns and blacks with a black outline maybe?
But trying something out of the ordinary is what helps us grow!!
thanks for the shove guys, you are all right  And besides I have enough of the fabric left that if I make a total disaster I can just make a new head  I learnt that lesson a long time ago!!! Always leave enough to make a new head!!!!
Hugs,
Krista
Yup, cool head so far!
I say try something totally different! I'm sure you won't need to make a new head!
OK,
It's just me but that nose cries out to be shaved! He is so wonderful and just a little bit of sculptural shaving and color shading would make him so realistic. I think that is what you are approaching with your new design. Why not follow it through?

Thanks Karen....sorry I should have said that the only thing done so far to him was the needle sculpting and the insertion of eyes...he has a long way to go still and I am as we speak starting the scissor sculpting...but thank you again Karen, your opinion is worth alot to me... and I can't wait to get your opinion on the finished product as well.
Want me to post pics as I go????
Also what do you think, should I do all his shading in natural colors, like his feet and ears, or add some K Pawz quirks?
Hugs,
Krista
Do something different !! Some times you stumble up on your best look by trying new things !!! And I have had a mistake turn out to be wonderful in the end > Be wild !! Just jump in !!!

Do pictures !!!!!!
How did you do the eyelids without it 'moulting' all over the place? Coincidentally - really -
I'm driving myself nuts trying to get a similar effect no luck at the moment.
Your bears nose - my humble opinion - go with your first gut reaction......................
Krista,
So glad you are expanding your ideas ;-> Color is tricky, I'm not very good at unusual colors. I always try a test fur swatch before I appy color to my creation. But you seem to have a much better color sense that I YES, we need to see more image progress reports!
Karen
I traced the shape of the doll eye, and than free hand made the shape for the eylid out of cardstock paper, and then traced them onto the alpaca making sure to do one opposite so that I had two seperate eyes, make it just a bit smaller so that it overlaps the eye and has a curve, then using a tiny bit of Aleene's thick designer tacky glue(ewwwww I used glue!!!!) put it in the center of the lid pretty close to where I wanted it,and then manouver to where it should be, and don't touch it, waited for that to dry in place and then glued the sides down with little bits of glue, also used some leather lace for the bottom lid so that was covered as well the same way, but for that I used E6000 since the other glue doesn't do too well with leather....then to set them once again I used E6000 in a pre sculpted eye socket, so that they eyes sit in the head and not on top of it.
Hope this helps Sandra,
thanks Karen, I will post more pictures shortly

Krista
Alright, pictures so far for you, he still needs more trimming and of course the nose in question, but must run for now with appt with dr., I will work on him again later and post more pictures for you...if you want them????
Hugs,
krista
What beautiful eyes!!!!
Krista you have already answered your own question. Just by having the question in the first place says that something different is in order. Just let your gut instint guide you. You are a superb artist, just have confidence in the change of expression.
Wendy
Those eyes are gorgeous and YES - I vote for something out of the ordinary, too.
Try something new
You wont know if you don't try
and that's what art is all about,
innovating, expanding, thinking outside of the jack-in-the-box
You might come up with something new-some totally new look that will sell for more than you ever have before!
Expand your horizons....don't be afraid.....forget your comfort zone
Surprise yourself!!!!!

Live on the wild side Krista, who knows what you may discover there. Have fun and let go. This advice of course comes from me, the most un-adventurous ( is that a word ??) person around
I agree, experiment!!! so much fun not knowing how your bear will turn out. You'll love him all the more
DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!
Krista, give it a try, and let as all see the outcome!
Gaby
Krista - Thanks for the eyelid tips....Brilliant...............
We're waiting.................................................
perhaps not so patiently......................................................
sorry it has taken so long, hubby had surgery on his other knee today, and I haven't worked on my bear all day I did get his nose embroidered last night though so will post pictures soon!!!
Hugs,
Krista
alrighty then, here are pictures of what I completed last night, nose is now embroidered and more scissor sculpting has been done, with more to do yet....the one thing I have noticed about taking pictures like this is that it is easier to see where more sculpting needs to be done and things that seem uneven...
Hugs,
Krista
All I can say is WOWIE ZOWIE !!!!! GOOD !!!!
