Phew!  Well its been seven whole weeks now since I clutzed and tripped over my own feet, dislocating my pinkie.  Luckily it does seem to be healing well.  The joint is still swollen, and *very* unhappy with me after an intense week of moderating another board.  However I've been swabbing it with DMSO and the pain and swelling has subsided drastically again.

At the same time, I've been working to rehome Lady Bear.  Yes, I've angsted about this all summer long.  Her personality is such that she's a doing/going gal....wants to be off down the trails.  She doesn't care an nth for loving, she just wants to do her job and get her sugarcube.  There's nothing wrong with that if that's what you want out of your horse...one that's honest in its work, and not particularly wanting to be fussed on.  However, as my kidneys backslide a bit for me this summer, I realized I would not be able to give her what she wanted...which was miles and miles of trails.

Soooo, I've been looking for a perfect home for her, one that would best suit her needs, and I think I've found it.  I've contacted a fellow that does endurance riding with his foxtrotters....so many miles it boggles the mind.  And he's coming to fetch her tomorrow.  Of course I'm all tearful about it  bear_cry and I don't doubt I'll bawl tomorrow.  I get soooo attached to my animals.  But to be honest, I'll be shocked if she doesn't take one look at a guy with a trailer and just leap in with nary a look back to me.  She adores men, afterall, and if he's got a sugarcube about, that'll clench the deal.

.....sigh...Its' really taken a lot of soul searching, but you know, after hubby and I came to this decision we felt better immediately, and even more telling ~ Lady Bear for the first time began playing and running in the field  bear_shocked   She's never done that before!  She's also been sitting on the fencelines scrutinizing each and every truck that comes up and down our road, looking for the trailer.  I have to say, I did feel better about the whole thing after that....it tells me I'm making the right choice for her.

And after a bit of struggle, I've finally gotten my first bear finished...my first since Spring!  I can't believe its been that long.  I mean, usually I have my bears go into hibearnation during the summer because the Midwest heat is so harsh on real fur, but just as I was coming out of 'hibearnation' I went and messed up my finger.   bear_sad   Soooo... this one's been a long time coming.   bear_happy

oh Debbie, I can so understand where you are coming from with your horse, I had the same dilemma years ago, having to make the very hard decision to part with my very first horse, she was very happy in her new home.  I then got another horse (a welsh cob sec D) and he was the most wonderful sweet loving cheeky character, I also had to very sadly part with him when I was at university, but he is now retired in a field with companions and a very happy chappy - I went and saw him in the Spring, and of course I felt very choked up seeing him but he looked so well and happy.  I do still miss him though (after about 9 years since he went!) so I know how you feel being attached to your animals.

I'm sure you have made the right decision for your dear girl and that she'll have a great life doing all those trails.  I love your bear, looks so soft and has such a sweet expression.

Take care
Big hugs

Oh hon, I know its hard, but you are being such a wonderful petmom.  I am so touched by your thinking about what is best for Ladybear.

WOW, if only more petparents would do this.   It sounds like she will be happy again.

I am so glad to hear about your finger finally starting to feel better.  Isn't it amazing how much you use the pinkie, and how important it is for your projects?  Are you doing your own version of physical therapy?  Making it move so the joint wont freeze up on you?

Congratulations on being so proactive.   Too many of us aren't.

Now about this bear...Isn't he adorable?  I can see you put a lot of thought and time and care into him.  He truly is lovely, I especially like the muzzle treatment.  Congratulations on such a great job!

goodgolly hugs

bear_original What a great little face, Debbie--you may have lost the use of your pinkie (ouch) but you haven't lost your touch. I've got to say that I'm looking after my hands much more carefully now than I ever did before!!

You absolutely made the right decision for LadyBear. It's hard enough to realize that a cat you've nurtured would be happier elsewhere, but a horse . . . good for you!!

I had to give up a foster kitty I'd cared for almost since birth, nursing him through endless viruses, plus ringworm and stubborn eye infections. At 4 months, he was still the size of an 8-week-old kitten. If I hadn't adopted him, the Humane Society would have put him down--he was such a mess that he was considered unadoptable.

Anyway, he grew up huge and strong and sassy against all odds, but then decided that he prefered to live with a man a few blocks south. After I'd brought him back home twice, I gave up and decided that he knew best!

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement ladies    I've got a feeling I'll be a mess today.  Off shortly to go give them their morning feed, and to be sure everything's packed in Lady Bear's suitcase.  I feel like a mum bundling her child off to camp....sigh....
