Oh Tami, that is so cute.....What sort of a squirrel is it? It is not the sort of red squirrels that we tend to see over here. I just finished drawing 6 new raccoons designs, your pictures get my mind spinning again..... ;)

Ellen your raccons are the cutest things I have ever seen!!!!

Tami,
What a smart squirrel! We have grey squirrels all around us and pumpkins and other squash. Not one of them has figured out that you could dig into one to get the seeds! He must be the Einstein of squirrels!

Cute, cute, cute . . . I love squirrels, too, but they can be little stinkers sometimes.  Around here, we have rather large, rusty brown, fox squirrels --- and they're really sly/smart just like their namesake.  I could fill a book with their antics from just watching them the 21 years we've lived in this house.  Those are adorable pics, Tami.

That is too cute!!!

I have a squirrel story actually.

When I was 17, I used to be a cleaner in the evenings at a comapny that had a big site. The building I used to clean was at the top of the site near woods and a bit spooky at 8pm in the evening.
Anyway in this office used to be a packet of biscuits on the window ledge that didn't really seem to be going down that much. I didn't think too much of it.

Anyway after a few months there I was polishing the desks when I heard a tap on the window. It was a part of the window where the biscuits stood.
Who was tapping on the window - a squirrel. So I opened the window up and he just sat there, so I got a biscuit out of the packet and and he took it off me, walked about a foot up the window ledge and sat there and ate it.
I couldn't beleive it. The biscuits were for him and he was a very tame squirrel!!!

Tami: I just love the squirrel pictures!!!

Claire: What a fun story....don't you just love these little creatures...Every winter I always make sure they get fed....I laugh because in the dead of winter, I have fat squirrels and I can always tell when a new one visits my house because they look so skinny....yes I make sure that any wild life who is hungry, gets a good feeding in winter....

Now for those who are appalled, please don't judge....Racoon, squirrels, rabbits, deer... I can't stand it when they look hungry....I can afford it and  when food is scares in the blistery Minnesota winters, I make sure I don't see their suffering....

Karen: you are so right.....I think all of Gods creatures are beautiful.....I can't tell you how many animals I have rescued and nurtured over the years. Somehow the lost always seem to find my home and I have been able to reunite many with their owners....

Bear Hugs to all those people who help the animals...

That is one fat squirrel.  He must be storing up for the winter.  I know the weather service is saying it will be a mild one, but I'm not too sure that I believe it.  The animals sure are getting heavy coats around here and the birds left early.  I think I trust the animals more than the weather service.

Now my squirrel story.  My mother-in-law got out of bed late one night to go the the bathroom.  She didn't turn on the lights.  Just as she went to sit down on the toilet, a squirrel came up out of it.  My mother-in-law was a quiet woman, but she sure let out a scream that night.  It seems the squirrel had fallen down the vent pipe in the roof.  Luckily, they were able to trap him and put him back outside.

Tami, that is so darn cute!  I love the one with his tail sticking out.

You always find the cutest animal photos.  My favorite you have posted is the series of photos of a tortoise being serrogate mother to a baby hippo.  My daughter has these photos pinned up in her bedroom. bear_thumb

bear_original Tami, I

LOVE

these pictures--that little squirrel has made my day. Maybe my week!

I love squirrels too. I used to foster babies for the Humane Society, but the last litter ate all the knobs off my washer and dryer, and pooed in Hubby's basket of hair-trimmer stuff.

All the squirrels here are fat and fluffy, what with all the seeds available. We have the grey ones, including a black variety. I'm told that there are white squirrels in western Ontario.

Tami... cute! Those Gray Squirrels are WAY too smart sometimes! When I was a kid I set up an obstacle course for Mr. Squirrel to go through on the way to the bird feeders. Hey, might as well make it entertaining, it's going to eat the bird seed one way or another! No matter how hard I tried to out smart that squirrel it just wasn't happening!

I too have heard it's to be a 'bad' winter (personally, I love snow storms so I'm excited!) The birds have indeed gone and the squirrels and chippies are very busy scurrying for nuts. I hear a lot of squabbling going on! The deer are also very busy eating everything in sight and the bees are VERY mean right now! Yup, going to be a cold and snowy winter!!!

That squirrel will be literally living large through it!

Millie: love your story about your mother-in-law....

Daphne: yes I heard it will be a cold winter. Here in Minnesota, we had snow flurries this morning...Snow showers predicted this evening and tomorrow.....I don't think it will stick to the ground though...just slushy....

As for the birds....for all you you who don't know, they will stick around in the winter if you feed them. I always have assorted seeds, peanuts and suet out all winter and have loads of birdies all winter long......Hint though....suet is good for them in winter because they need the extra fat....I have a good recipe for suet if anybody wants it....People at work laugh at me saying "You cook for your bird!!"....yes indeed I do...I wuvs them....

bear_wub  bear_wub  bear_wub  Tami, thanx for sharing these lovely pix!

Ellen, these squirrels are so cute, and so are the red squirrels here in EUrope but somehow some of the american squirrels immigrated here and they suppress the red ones in the areas where they came into.

It was so interresting to watch the squirrels and chip monks in Atlanta trying to reach the bird feeder that had a shield over it to keep the squirrels away. My friends had several bird feeders and also some for the squirrels, but the squirrels always regarde the bird feeder as the "greener grass"... bear_grin
