Daphne has encouraged me to post about this publicly here at TT so here I go.
Last week I stumbled on this cool website, www.squidoo.com. They are doing something familiar, yet unique. It's a place where you can create what is essentially a kind of blog... but the idea with Squidoo is that you don't just use this "blog" as an online journal. Rather, you choose a SUBJECT on which you are expert, or in which you are interested and think you have something to share... and then create your Squiddo "lens" surrounding that topic area.
I was totally intrigued by this concept and decided I had to jump on the bandwagon! So I chose, for my first and, for now, only lens, teddy bears.
Charlotte (makafelts) could create lenses on basket making, teddy bears, and needlefelting.
Judi could create lenses on airbrushing, bears, and dairy farming.
Sue Ann could create lenses on bears, Texas, and painting.
Dilu could create lenses on eco-friendly living, nursing, and gollies.
And so on.
Lenses are ranked according to a sorta complex formula which includes number of visitors and frequency of updates. I'm proud to already be ranked in the 600's out of over 40,000 lenses. You can also participate in a poll at my lens; RANK my lens; and sign my guestbook by leaving your own unique blurb.
If you choose to create your own lens at some point, know that you can have as many lenses as you want and that some of the "modules" in your lens can even earn you cash dividends, if your lens leads people to purchase something you've recommended. I'm not in it for the money, though; I just thought it would be nice to have a centralized resource for teddy bear "schtuff."
I'm trying to create as complete a lens as possible so if you know of magazines I've left out or other great resources that might make good reading for anyone checking out my Squidoo lens, please let me know by posting your resources here. That way, we can ALL benefit from them... whether via my lens, or not.
Of particular interest to me are teddy bear shows. I can't list them ALL but I'd love to list the bigger ones, both domestically AND Internationally, and I'm really stumped on this one. Help me out and I'll add your content with gratitude!
Thanks, and I hope you'll enjoy my Squidoo lens!
Thank you, Shel!
I just thought it was such a neat concept and you did a fantastic job with your "lens"... it's visually pleasing and easy to navigate. Most importantly it's got fabulous content!!! You've listed so many wonderful resources and facts and info that anyone interested in teddy bears will learn from!

Very nice Shelli...I looked at it a few days ago when you mentioned it in another post. Being the nosey person that I am I had to know what the heck a squidoo was.
Very nice indeedy...is there anything you CAN'T do...and I'm not talking glass turds!!!
It's actually pretty easy to set up a Squidoo lens. You just add "modules" from their "add modules" page and then you edit them to customize. Waaaayyyy easier than it looks, just like most blogs are. It's all done for you!
I'm glad you like it, but don't get too impressed with the creation aspect. No programming know-how required!
You can, however, be impressed (if you'd like) with the research behind it. It took me... more than five minutes... to gather all those links and information. So I'll take the credit on THAT part!
Shelli,
I had seen the word squidoo at the bottom of your posts today & wondered what it was...I will for sure check it out tomorrow...my brain is too fuzzy tonight to do it It does sound like a great thing!!!
Hugs &
Shelli: I just checked this out and it is Neato Burrito!

Don't you just love Shelli - she has such faith is us
I bumped into it the other day when I saw 'my squidoo' under your post signature and didn't know what it was. I thought it was great.
Shelli is a very remarkable lady - I don't think there is anything this talented person can't do - and do well! Her lens is a terrific place to go for valuable info. Am not surprised that you rank so high, Shel. Check it out . . . lots of fun, interesting, and serious stuff to learn.
Wow that looked like allot of work ! Good job , and it will help lead allot of people to look at the artist teddy Bear. Good thinkin and thanks for helping out the art of teddy Bear making Feel free to use any info on me that you would like. If I can help out let me know. Doing my web sight was a real challenge so I may wait on doing one of what you are talking about . I was working on a My Space. I am almost done. Just playing around but the more people we can reach the better.
the more people we can reach the better.
I agree 100% and am doing my part to spread the word!
Tres interesting Shelli! I've just been at a conference which had a huge web 2.0 focus - and squidoo couldn't be any more web 2.0
have been thinking a lot about it in relation to the bear world....would love to "talk" more with you about it sometime but I know you are busy busy!
Really interesting, Shelli. Your lens gives lots of interesting information and examples -- I'm sure anyone reading it will jump on the bear bandwagon at once.
Thanks for the compliment, too.
