Ooooh, was he bringing you a package of mohair? Sorry, I've been reading the Harry Potter books too much lately
What a lovely, lovely owl....awwwhhh, and quite the sleepyhead...
OH WOW!!!!! you lucky girl   How absolutely wonderful.
Do you know what type of owl he is??? I dont think I have seen a wild owl since I was a teenager. I am so glad you took the photo.
Helen what a fantastic photo ... thank you for sharing
Wendy asked: Do you know what type of owl he is???
Wendy: In looking at my "Birds of Minnesota" book, it says he is a Barred Owl. Very different from the Great Horned Owl that has the ears/horn-like thingy's on its head. Per the book (I'm reading as I'm typing) the Barred Owl grows to 20-24 inches and is known to hunt during the day. He eats mammals and small birds!! Folks, I just fell off my chair!
SMALL MAMMALS AND BIRDS?!! I feed the birds, squirrels, rabbits and oh everything...no wonder he was outside my house! Now I am horrified!!! Where oh where are my smelling salts!!!
What a great pic.
Try to think of it this way Michelle......you are just helping Mother Nature maintain the balance....
I know....it probably doesn't help at all when we love all of the little things and just want them all to live....I have to pretend the "pecking order" doesn't exist most days.
What a great photo - thanks for sharing Helen.
Hugs
Carolyn
Everything's gotta eat...
Well, I recovered from last night after reading about my beautiful owl loves to feed on the very sweet birdies, squirrels, rabbits that I feed everyday....Yes (I'm saying this with quivering lip), he has got to eat too....sniffle, snifflel.
This morning, I looked at my bird feeders with a new eye. Oh, yes and an eye in the trees, scanning for my owl.
