I spend so many hours stitching in my sewing room and often my mind is "wandering" . Sometimes I can concentrate and I will listen to a storybook on tape or dvd.

Other times I will listen to musicals that I have seen and re live them, some of my favourites are still "Phantom of the Opera","Evita", "Chicago". And then of course I will half listen to BBC prime and pick up on gardening, moving house into the country side, and other like type repeat programs they might be airing.

So where is your mind when you are stitching ?( the housework stitching- tummy, limbs, stuffing)

I have a small tv in the studio and I usually just listen to that while I'm working.  Sometimes I don't like anything on, just depends on the mood I'm in.   bear_grin

I too have a tv (a pink one hehehe) in my craft room with a dvd player and for inspiration or just for a good whole hearted laugh (especially when a bear is being a tad difficult) I put in a season of FRIENDS. I own them all and cookbooks and coasters and central perk coffee too !!!!  Alittle OCD here at times lol !!!!

I also have a small TV in my studio. I love it there but I have to admint I'd get alot more done if I just listened to music, but I always end up with the TV on.

I'm usually just listening to food network.

I wish..........my bears are all hand sewn because I can only sew in between daily life.........with a very very ill Dad a lot of my sewing is done sitting in my car waiting for him to come out of the Doctors surgeries or filling in time while he has tests. Both parents recently had cataract operations, so I sat with Mum waiitng and then sat with Dad waiting and I sewed a whole 8in bear both days.

Then of course it's while waiting for my daughter to do her ballet leson, tap dance or matial arts  (one day I'm really going to do a Sensei bear!!)

And then their are the days where there is just not enough time to drive home but too long to sit in the car picking her up from school......so yes my sewing lives in a bag that goes with me everywhere......my car console looks like a sewing basket!!!

jodi_avatarsample1-200PIX-Lisa-Thomas.jpgNow a days I set in front of the TV in the family room. But I used to years a go , when I had a studio set up look out the window. There was one right in front of my sewing machine. Then I felt like I was a part of what was going on out there and I could watch my son playing also. But like I said to day I am in the family room or where ever I decide to drag it . Every thing is all done by hand now that I have chosen to sew smaller bears.

I have a little tv too that I sometimes watch,  but sometimes I love the quietness of no distractions.  My bear studio is conveniently( or not so conveniently) located next to the laundry room, so I usually justify my time in the studio by doing laundry too.  Throw a load in, work on a bear, switch to the dryer, work on a bear, when it comes to ironing it gets a little tricky.lol. bear_original

Lynette, Really good question.  I am sure there will be lots of different comments.

I too love Phantom of the Opera.  I will sometimes 'watch' the dvd will sewing, or if I am in my workroom than I'll definietly have a cd playing.  Leahy, Bond, Josh Groben, or dance music.  It really sets a nice mood.

I listen to the Harry Potter audio books.  I have been through them all about 10 times, so know they really really well but I'm still not bored of them.  They are definitely my favourites!
I got The Hobbit audiobook for christmas, but can't stop myself choosing Harry Potter instead of the hobbit whenever I sit down to sew!!

It depends upon my mood.  Sometimes I'll hole up in my bear room with a cd playing....Sting music, or one of the instrumentals.  Other times it has to be complete silence.  And yet other times I'll drag my sewing to wherever hubby is and sit and sew.  Yesterday I sat downstairs 'watching' "The Illusionist" three times through  bear_wub   What can I say?  I'm a hopeless romantic, and that movie has shot up to be one of my all time favorites  bear_wub

I'd asked about books on CD a while back and have gotten through Anne of Green Gables and a couple of Harry Potter ones thus far.

What I do most is EAT CHOCOLATE!!! The bits of mohair I also ingest are a great source of fiber and protein!

No television in the studio for me.....too distracting.  I listen to music or complete silence depending on what stage of creativity I'm in.  Silence or soft music if I'm sewing noses or trying to place eyes.  Loud, bass thumping music with most everything else these days.  It's a good thing my neighbors are a good distance away!

Warmest bass thumping bear hugs,

While making my last bear, I watched or should I say mostly listened to the movies Narnia and after that Castaway...the newest bear I'm working on I did most of it while listening to the Newsboys.  If you haven't ever heard of them, you simply must! They are an awesome christian band, I have like 8 of their cds!  You can go to their website and listen to their music free on their radio player, their website is  www.newsboys.com  I absolutely love them! Today I will be finishing up my current bear while watching the NFL playoffs...GO COLTS   !!!!!  That's if I can stand to be still while watching the game and that's not going to happen!! hee hee!!  Best wishes for a great day!! I know what you mean!  I often find my mind wandering.... and then my body follows...   so I pop in Harry Potter 1 or 3 into the computer.... (the DVD)  For some reason.... my mind stops thinking of other things I need to do and I can sew bears.

Daphne.... chocolate...   I'll shall have to check Alex for smudges

I have to confess, I'm a TV junkie, but not really for the pictures, just the sound.  If I'm in the mood to "watch" as I sew, it will be PBS or BBC programs - I love the British mystery shows.  Most times though, I just listen and it's mostly shows that are documentary etc.  I find naration soothing, if it's the right voice, but I find music really distracting if I'm sewing, unless we are in the car, and then I can usually tune it out.  I used to watch A&E a lot, but now their programs aren't as good.  I could listen to the fellow that narrates Cold Case and Investigative Reports all day.  I also like the narrator from City Confidential.  What can I say, I'm an oddball.

Bill Kurtis & Paul Winfield  bear_grin

I love Paul Winfield, he sounds so incredibly drunk & sloshy-slurry sometimes. I visualize him
lying face-down on a carpet with a martini in one hand, rambling incoherently into the berber
about some Dallas socialite poisoning her husband or something.

I'm a sucker for the crime documentaries (obviously) & also Law & Orders & CSIs, & X-Files.
I need some 'what happens next??' to keep my ADD butt in the chair & my hands on my work.
I like DVDs but we've got all the same old ones. I used to listen to 'This American Life' (NPR)
episodes on the internet but their new anti-downloading solution does not work with my computer
anymore.

My teddy mentor says she has 'white lung' from inhaling too much fiber from mohair and stuffing. White Lung Disease is a disease usually associated with asbestos or chemical inhalation. And I thought all I had to worry about was carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis and big round behind syndrome from sitting so much!

yes, I also have a diet of mohair. Good fibre I guess. LOL

Sounds like I could be WAY more productive if I turn off the TV, but it's such good company.
